The Roll Call

Posted by Zox Tomana , Aug 19 2014 · 430 views

As September 11th nears, I have begun to turn my attention towards what I will be publishing on my BS01 Userpage. I have made one of these speeches once a year for the past four or five years now, as a tribute to 9/11 and to people across the world who have died in various tragedies.

This year, I would like to do something different. I would like to find a way to honor the BZPower family specifically in addition to my usual statements.

At Texas A&M, my university, we have a yearly tradition called Muster where we honor the deaths of those students, certain former students, and faculty who have passed away in the last year. We gather together and a speaker reads out the names of those who have died, the Roll Call for the Absent, and their family and classmates respond "Here" to the call in place of their dead brothers and sisters.

I would like to hold a BZP Roll Call for the Absent on 9/11. I would like to gather names, and publish a list here on my blog and on my BS01 Userpage when 9/11 arrives.

Now, most of us will not have known anyone who has died in 9/11, nor is this a list for those who died in 9/11. Nor is it a list for Americans only, but for people from all nations, who have died in all kinds of circumstances. I do not expect to be putting the names of any BZPers on this list (though if any should belong on it...), but rather the names of those who have been in our lives, the people we knew and wish to be remembered. Friends, family, teachers...

If you would like to submit someone you knew for the Roll Call, but have privacy concerns, you are certainly allowed to anonymize the names ("Tomana's grandmother", for ex.). Either way, if you are interested, please PM me rather than put the names here in this post.

If you have questions, PM me, or post them here.

Please, join me in creating something special to BZP as those of us in America celebrate the 13th anniversary of 9/11.
