Books, Books, Books

Be warned, readers!

I have a deep, shameless love for books of all kinds. I have been seriously considering starting my own library, operating out of my room. Could work, I think.

Something I've always wanted to do was post reviews of books, and this blog seems like a great place to do it! Review books, and get books recommendations.

So, BZPower, any books that you've adored that you care to share with the Titan upstairs?

Out of all the comments that I expected, across the vast length of languages the world contains and the multitude of expressions we can provide via the written word, that comment was not expected at all.

Welcome to the internet.

First, I have to ask whether you read Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged, or whether you like Greek myths. Obligatory.

I have not read Atlas Shrugged - after reading Anthem, I was through with Ayn Rand.

By contrast, I enjoy more like Orson Scott Card. The Ender's Game is good; The Pathfinder is much better.

I also like me some Garth Nix; The Keys to the Kingdom is very good. I think he just came out with a book on princes that is very good - I read that one. Across the Wall is another particular favorite.

And if I'm looking for something a little more funny, there's always Gordon Korman's Swindle series to provide me with the latest misadventures of Griffin Bing. :)

I have not read any of Ayn Rand's books, I am going to be reading Atlas Shrugged sometime in the next 24 months; it's up there on the shelf. Flip side, I have read the Greek myths, and probably need to again.

I haven't read any of Orson's books; I've been gathering Foundation books to read by Asimov.

Your last two suggestions, I have never heard of; but I will be jotting the names down on my list of books to get.

Thank you kindly.

I'd be remiss if I didn't recommend any books by Neil Gaiman. If you're looking for a denser novel, American Gods is where it's at, if you're in the mood for something lighter, Neverwhere, Stardust, and The Ocean at the End of the Lane are all good choices. And that's not even getting into his children's books or graphic novels.

He's popular, I know. I have American Gods on my to read list, but I'm having difficulty finding it.

Of course, my attention keeps straying in book stores....

Any of the Shannara series by Terry Brooks are good. Fablehaven by Brandon Mull is aimed at a younger crowd, but is incredibly good and well written.
