I Find It Ironic That...

...the Yankee fans seem to be accusing the Rangers of "buying" Cliff Lee, and claiming it's the only reason the Rangers are winning the series, and that the Yankees should have Lee in a fair world.

It sounds like how everyone else describes the Yankees.

I don't believe that a team can "buy a championship" because the team is just that--a team, and anyone they trade for at the deadline is a part of that team. I don't believe that the Yankees "bought" any of their 27 championships, and I don't believe the Rangers "bought" their pitching dominance. Same goes for every other team.

But I still think it's funny that the Yankees' fans are claiming that the Rangers took advantage of the Yankees inability to sign Lee and "bought" him as the reason they're losing to Texas.

Blackhawks Beat Blues, 3-2 In Overtime

Posted by LewaLew , Oct 19 2010 · 174 views
The Hawks had a come from behind win at the UC last night, with a couple of third period goals by Marian Hossa and a game winner in OT by Patrick Sharp, thanks to a great assist by Patrick Kane. The most incredible shot, however, was Hossa's second goal, when, facing away from the net, shot it through his legs and the legs of one of the Blues, straight into the net. Marty Turco also did fantastic, saving 32 out of 34 shots.

The Hawks' next game is in Chicago against the Vancouver Canucks, in a rematch of the Western Conference Semifinals. It will be a tough game, facing off the Stanley Cup Champions and the favorites to dethrone them. Go Hawks!

New York @ Texas

I actually had a prediction that would have been a shocker to most folks.

Rangers win in 5.

True, it requires three more Rangers wins in a row, but it does not seem all that inaccurate. My prediction was based on the pitching matchups they had. I fully believed that C. J. Wilson could, and would, outpitch C. C. Sabathia and win Game 1. After that, Colby Lewis could definitely handle the Yankees longer than Phil Hughes could handle the Rangers. Then you have Cliff Lee in game 3. Lee is solid enough to win any day. And then, in Game 4, you have Tommy Hunter vs. either A.J. Burnett or C.C. (most likely the latter had Texas won game 1) and although CC would most likely win that one, the Rangers would then face Burnett in game 5 with C. J. on the mound, and if I believed C. J. could beat C. C., I most certainly believe he could beat Burnett.

Unfortunately, the Texas bullpen let me down in Game 1, but that means that Burnett will likely pitch game 4, with Sabathia and Wilson in game 5. If Texas wins 3 and 4, they have a shot at winning 5, and even if they don't, game 6 matches up Hughes and Lewis again.

To me, the Rangers still have the advantage with the better staff.

Giants @ Phillies

Oswalt brought the world, and the NLCS, back into balance tonight by shutting down SF in all but Cody Ross' home run, so now we go to the West Coast with Hamels on the mound against Cain. A terrific matchup that...

The Phillies will win. In fact, they'll win both of them, says I. Game 5 will be won by Lincecum at home, but just barely, while the Giants fall in Game six as the O in H2O shuts down the Giants for the second time, back in Philly.

E M C#6: Wildlife Entry-- Manas- Vae

Posted by LewaLew , Oct 13 2010 · 125 views

Category: Description
Member: LewaLew
Entry Name: Manas-Vae (Cloud Monster), sometimes called Manas-Fos (Sulfur Monster) or Smoke Monster on Industrial and Tyrant, since it takes on the appearance of the glomosulfur and smoke in those places.
Habitat: Throughout the Expanded Multiverse--especially in Promathus, Tyrant, and on islands such as BZ-Koro, or on Tribal's islands along the rivers and coast.
Description: A living cloud of gas that changes color depending on what nonliving gases and vapor clouds in their environment looks like, making it barely noticeable unless one is looking for it. The Manas-Vae comes in several sizes, as it is also able to compress itself together to appear thicker, and separate its molecules to appear as a thinner gas.
Anecdote: The Manas-Vae is a mysterious, parasitic creature similar to the Antidermis state of the Makuta species. They are quite common on untamed placed such as Tribal, but also exist in rather large numbers on BZ-Koro, due to its status as an island village; Industrial, due to its smoggy, sulfur-filled atmosphere; and Tyrant, due to the volcanic ash and smoke that fills the air. The Manas-Vae is usually reclusive in their gaseous form, but often waft through untame, forested areas, as well as through the more populated yet polluted areas of Aethion. They hunt by entering the lungs of their prey and forcing all the air out until the prey is knocked out due to a lack of air. The Manas-Vae then takes control of the body, and controls it for the course of seven months while it slowly drains the prey's life energy--much like a Sea Squid, but far slower. It is impossible to tell simply by sight whether a being or beast has been taken control of by a Manas-Vae, but the main symptom is a Rahi-like behavior, since their body is under control of a beast. When not feeding on a creature or being that a Manas-Vae attacked, the Manas-Vae waft about, changing their color, density, scent, and even taste, to that of the surrounding gases and vapors in the atmosphere.

The Manas-Vae's does have several weaknesses, the first of which is that if they lower their density too much, they will lose control, their molecules will separate, and the creature will die. A Manas-Vae can also press itself together too much, in which case it will also lose control, transform into a liquid, then a solid, and then the beast will die. The Manas-Vae can also be destroyed in the same ways Antidermis can, with the exception of burning it, since it is inflammable.

American League Championship Series: New York Yankees @ Texas Rangers

For the first time in Washington Senators/Texas Rangers history, a postseason series have been won. If they win another series this year. they will reach their first World Series in franchise history. The primary obstacle? The Champions of the World Series of 2009, the New York Yankees.

Joe Girardi's squad is fighting to raise Girardi's number again, this time from 28 to 29, as motivation towards their next goal. Given the Yankees track record, it is easily shown that Texas has a rough road to their first World Series, but they have the man who has faced the Yankees before in the Postseason--the World Series, even-- and beaten them twice. That man is Cliff Lee. In addition, the Yankees' once-formidable three-man playoff rotation of Sabathia, Pettitte, and Burnett has been reduced to Sabathia, a recovering Pettitte, and Phil Hughes, with a slumping Burnett as a fourth starter.

Still, the Yankees are the Yankees, the Evil Empire, the Bronx Bombers, etc. and have all the tools necessary to win it, and are most certainly the favorites to win the ALCS.

National League Championship Series: San Francisco Giants @ Philadelphia Phillies

The Formula for this series: H x 2 + O. Halladay, Hamels, and Oswalt are the reason the Phillies are the favorites to win the National League Title again. Halladay is more favored to win Game 1 than Lincecum, and Oswalt's past success in the NLCS with the Astros should give him an edge over Matt Cain, and Hamels also has had tremendous success on this level, having won the NLCS and World Series MVP awards in 2008.

Do the Giants have a chance. My guess is only by a long shot. Firstly, they'd have to solve at least one of the H2O starters, but the Giants have a far weaker lineup than the Reds, who were the top offensive team in the NL, but were shut down by the Phillies in a sweep. Secondly, they would also have to beat one of the H2O starters in probably three games, unless the Phils run on a three man rotation as the Yankees did in their World Series run last year.

ALCS: Yankees in 6

NLCS: Phillies in 4. (Yes, I'm thinking a sweep for the second round in a row.)

What I want to happen

ALCS: Rangers in 7 (Seven games mean more baseball. biggrin.gif )

NLCS: Phillies in 7

Hawks Beat Sabres, Face Preds Tonight

Posted by LewaLew , Oct 13 2010 · 231 views
The Chicago Blackhawks brought in their first win of the season in Buffalo, New York, against Ryan Miller and the Sabres in a come-from-behind win-- 4-3, Final. But the main story is a hit that Niklas Hjalmarsson dished out to one of the Sabres, knocking him out and drawing Nik a two-game suspension, while Miller is making some clearly angry comments (as he should be, when one of his teammates is knocked out and injured). Team USA's Olympic star, Miller, is also saying that Niklas Hjalmarsson should be given ten times the suspension Hjalmarsson actually received. (20 games, for those of you who don't believe in Math outside of school hours) It will be interesting to see what happens when Hjalmarsson returns in two games, when the Blackhawks will be playing--let me see--

--the Buffalo Sabres. Expect penalties on Sabre players against Hjalmarsson.

Anyhow, another story is that the Blackhawks and Predators are meeting for the first time since the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, when the Hawks eliminated Nashville on their way to the Stanley Cup. (I was privileged enough to be in Murfreesboro--right outside Nashville-- just after the Hawks won the cup. People hated my Stanley Cup Champions cap. I wonder why. tongue.gif )

Also, do you remember while watching the Hero Factory mini-series, seeing some commercial for a ridiculous TV show called NFL Rush Zone? Apparently, it's some joint project between the NFL and Nicktoons. Anyhow, I was reminded of it when I read an article on NHL.com about a project between Stan Lee of Marvel Comics and the NHL, to create 30 superheroes based on the NHL teams, called the Guardian Project.

It just seemed ironic to me that both the NFL and NHL got such similar ideas at the same time, although one is a kids' show, while the other is a comic book.

I also bet you anything that the Blackhawks' superhero is some blackhawk indian that got his powers from some spirit. It sounds like Marvel's style.

Hawks Lose 4-3 In Overtime

Posted by LewaLew , Oct 08 2010 · 569 views
All I can say is, Turco was brilliant--Leddy was so-so. Mainly because Leddy couldn't handle a short pass that bounced off of his stick and skates and was then picked up by one of the Avs. They then scored their first goal on that breakaway.

Some solace can be taken for three reasons:

1) Hawks came back from a 3-1 deficit to tie it, forcing overtime.
2) In the NHL, you can get a point in the standings for losing, so long as it is in overtime.
3) In the Stanley Cup run last year, the Hawks lost their opener to the Florida Panthers in a shootout in Helsinki. The PANTHERS. Losing to the Avalanche is much less shameful, particularly on the road in their home, the Pepsi Center.

Howdy Folks!

I'm LewaLew, former BZPower RK, former Reporter, and former unofficial baseball blogger. Once, this blog served as the home of my primarily baseball-related musings. Now that I'm in college, I have little time for baseball and BZPower, so it sits here idle except for an occasional visit on my part. Please enjoy or cringe at what you read from my past, and if you'd like, go ahead and comment in the favorite baseball teams entry so that the next time a blue moon rolls around and I visit, I can add you to that content block.

Old Welcome Block

For those of you who don't know (which would mean everyone but Aho-Chan and Sumiki) the BaseBlog is beyond a blog, this is beyond baseball it's a blog that focuses on the great American sport of baseball. The idea of a baseball themed blog has actually been in the works by me ever since Super Bowl XLIV, when Aho-Chan posted a blog entry asking if anyone besides himself didn't care for the Super Bowl, to which I suddenly got the idea of a baseball-themed blog so I could talk about my favorite sport without waiting for someone else to post in the Official Baseball Topic in the Completely Off Topic forum.

Play Ball, folks.
