Hi Ho, Silver! Away!

An amazing comeback in the ninth inning has the World Series tied up as the Cardinals and Rangers go down deepinthaheartatexas. The pitching showdown between Colby Lewis and Jaime Garcia was scoreless up until the seventh, when the Cardinals drove in the first, and seemingly the winning run. However, a bloop single by Kinsler in the ninth and some nifty baserunning by Texas allowed the Rangers to tie the game off of a sac fly by Josh Hamilton, and then take the lead off of another sac fly in the next at bat. With the Rangers having taken care of business, the 2010 Rookie of the Year for the American League--closer Neftali Feliz--came in and shut down the Cardinals in the bottom of the ninth, finishing a masterful theft of Game two by the Texas Rangers.

Today is a travel day, so no ballgame. Game Three will be played tomorrow at Rangers Ballpark.

Also Blackhawks snap Avalanche winning streak.

Wait, there was a game last night? Who won?
Do you horses not have a TV set in the stable?

The Ranger's mascot must be the only horse paying attention to this series. :P

The Cardinals blew it. I know the Rangers have a potent offense, but Motte couldn't even record the out. Rhodes threw one pitch to Hamilton - in his happy zone - and I'm surprised he didn't take that ball deep.

Then, in the bottom of the ninth, Feliz walks the leadoff man with no out! Then Punto failed at a bunt and the rest of the batters swung at terrible pitches. Not to mention La Russa pulled Molina off the bases in favor of a pinch runner. I thought for sure that they were going to try to get that guy to second, but again, Punto failed at his assigned bunt.

The Cardinals don't really deserve to be in the World Series. If it weren't for Carlos Marmol blowing the win for the Cubs in their last series against St. Louis, they never would have even made the Postseason.

They were on fire to come back from ten and a half games out with a month to play, beating the Phillies - the best team in baseball IMO - and the Brewers - who had an insane record at home.

It's not about the best team in the postseason, it's about which one's the hottest. And right now, both teams are on a streak.

Maybe so, but their hot streak also required an equal collapse by Atlanta, and that was just for the Wild Card.

A team like that, shouldn't be in the World Series just because they play well for less than a fifth of a season. This year, the Cardinals were more than lucky. This is why I advocate eliminating the Wild Card.

The wild card is the only way that some really good teams have a chance to compete. If you think that overall performance during a season should count more, do you think that the Red Sox should have gotten into the postseason instead of the Rays? The Red Sox had a massive collapse and the Rays played inspired baseball down the stretch. For the majority of the season, the Red Sox were indeed a better team.

I pay close attention to the AL East (obviously) and the wild card is the only way to let the best teams in to the playoffs, and it's inevitable that one or two really good teams get snubbed because of a few games won or lost down the stretch.

I'm not worried about snubbing. If they can't be first in their division, then they don't deserve to compete with division winners. (No offense to the Rays, however. That AL East is tough)

What I'm concerned about is teams that stink the majority of the season and just barely make it in, and then reach the Fall Classic because they happened to get hot in October and the second half of September.

How do you suppose the issue get fixed?

In a weak division, it's entirely possible that what happened with the Cardinals-Braves situation and the Sox-Rays situation would happen in a division and not in the Wild Card. Would you have a problem with that?

Or what about, hypothetically, two teams that finish tied for first place and whoever loses the playoff will be the wild card?

I actually would move all the teams back into two divisions per league. Old style, before expansion of the playoffs. The division winners then play each other in the LCS and the winners of the LCS advance to the World Series.

If there's a weak division in that format, I can't help it. It'd be like the NBA, with only four or five good teams, and nobody can help the NBA.
