New Feature - Calendar R S V Ping

Black Six

BZPower has had a Calendar for a while now. It's seen intermittent use over the years depending on how the staff feel at the time.

I just discovered a new feature that must have been added with the recent upgrade - RSVPing. Now events can be created with the option to allow members to RSVP to them. So now for real life kind of meetups, or even for contests on BZPower, we can keep a running tally of who is going. To test it out, I've added two upcoming LEGO Conventions:

Bricks Cascade 2012

BrickFair 2012 VA

Do you guys think this is cool/useful? Right now only Staff can create events - should we open it up to Premier Members or OBZPCs?

Also, there's an option to be able to comment on events that is currently disabled. I'm not keen on enabling it (more work for the Staff), but thought I'd get everyone's input on that too.

Let me know what you think!

Comments might be helpful for people organizing meetups and the like; it's probably easier just to look at an event's comments and see who's going than to try and communicate through PMs and the like.

I personally like the idea- gives us an idea of who's going, so we won't be guessing randomly and giving the awkward "and you are...?" Especially for newbies to the events like me.

I think the comments would be good, for the reasons GSR stated. As for making it something for Premiers... I dunno. I feel like it would be a cool bonus to becoming Premier, but at the same time feel like it might be better suited as a privilege just for OBZPCs.

Love this, so much.

IF we opened up event-creating beyond staff, I'd sooner say OBZPCs than Premiers.

As for enabling comments, I see pros and cons to both sides, so I'm pretty neutral.

I think we should give the power to Retired Staff, and then possibly OBZPCs as well. Giving the ability to Premier Members might be a bit of a stretch.

OBZPCs definitely (Gee, wonder why :P) but I'm iffy on Premier Members. Sure, they paid their money's worth, but what could stop any random spammer from paying for it, then vandalizing the whole calendar for his or her own benefit? At least with OBZPC only, you know you have trusted members.

Plus, then I could post an event for a BS01 Convention* 8D

*BS01 is and will never be hosting a convention for their own benefit. This is both silly and expensive. But would be -awesome-

That would be pretty awesome. Also, It'd probably be more fit for OBZPCs than normal Premiers.

And the commenting system, as said, could help with organization. Plus, you could always appoint a new person to be the event Moderator to monitor comments. They'd also (possibly) approve every created event, or at least moderate them and delete duplicate/inappropriate ones.

My thoughts. Also, as far as commenting goes, I think a new Calendar Assistant group to approve calendar comments (and possibly events) is due. :P

Seriously, though, that would be a good idea. New staff groups are always nice. :) One or two should be enough for that group, though.

I agree with these people on the event adding, to be honest - it's more of an incentive to actually try to get to OBZPC status, and it prevents the calendar from being a cluttered-up resource hog.

I do think the RSVP and comments, if enabled, should be open to all members. I'm not sure if comments should be enabled, however...*thinks of losing posts in contest topics to the system*

I think comment enabling would be silly. It's not necessary whatsoever and would only create more work to moderate it.

Not sure if I'm supportive of the Calendar Assistant idea or not ...
