Bulbasaur, I Choose You

Black Six

That's what I said almost a month ago when I decided to dig out my Gameboy Advance and copy of Pokemon Blue. I kept reading people talking about the newer games and it made me recall the fond memories I had playing the original back in the day. I've been going through the game again, having a lot of fun the whole way. I even picked up a used GBA SP because how did we ever live without backlit screen? I mean seriously you expect me to play in only the most ideal lighting conditions?

Anyway, I'm currently in Celadon working my way through the basement of the totally-not-a-casino fighting off the evil Team Rocket. Then I'll be taking on Erika assuming I'm leveled up enough. My current team consists of:

-Bulbasaur

-Pikachu

-Geodude

-Gyrados

-Drowzee

-Machop

I really wish I had a fire Pokemon to help out with Erika, but I've yet to come across any. I've been working on training up Drowzee so hopefully he'll be enough to carry the team.

I've also ordered copies of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, so I get to try out some more recent (only a decade old) Pokemon games. I can't really justify a DS, so nothing past that for me, unless I get really into it.

Let me know if you have some suggestions for my team. Also - what should I evolve my Eevee into?

Evee must be the fire thing you said yourself why :)

That's what I'm leaning towards, but Flareon doesn't seem like the best evolution for Eevee. I hear lots of great things about Jolteon.

I have the Game boy color Pokemon silver, and I dig it out every so-and-so to play. I know how epic this feels, too. Good luck.

I love Ruby and Sapphire, but I've heard that there are a lot of fake copies on the internet now.

Also, for a fire Pokemon, there should be some Vulpix on the route right of Celadon, but you should be fine with Drowzee, since 2/3 of her Pokemon are half poison.

GET A CLEFAIRY

I have one. Normal-type Pokemon aren't the most useful though.

Well based on the pictures of the ones I bought they seem legit. And they have brand new batteries installed, so hopefully I'll be fine. We'll find out later this week.

Oh really? I don't recall seeing any there. I'll have to go back and check. Thanks for the tip!

Why would you get a DS when you can get a shiny 3DS instead?

I was speaking of the 'DS' platform as a whole. :P Although if I ever want to import Pokemon from Gen III to Gen IV apparently I'll need a DS Lite.

Yeah, that is true. If you know where to look you can find the DS Lite pretty cheap though. I don't remember how the transfer process works though.

idk where you heard that from? it requires a GBA slot on the DS, and i dont think the DS Lite has one. im p sure my NTR-001 (aka the first model) is capable of it, as it has a GBA slot, but i dont think the 3DS has one.

DS Phat and DS Lite both have GBA slots. I have both of them.

DSi, DSi XL, 3DS, and 3DS XL do not have GBA Slots. Of those I have a DSi and a 3DS. :P

On the DS lite the GBA games end up sticking out a tiny bit. In order to add more features for a larger chipset in the housing (and to cut costs) the GBA functionality was removed starting with the DSi line of systems.

And I probably went more in depth into this than I needed too. XD

Hey Andrew, you can buy my DS Lite from me, it's in perfect condition but it is uh ... very pink.

And yeah they'll totally play GBA games, but not GB or GBC. :(

Maybe Clefairy is your favorite, but I'd hardly call them the best. :P

I don't think cuteness affects gameplay until Generation III when you can enter contests. ;)

Unless you're battling someone like Smeag who think the one is too cute to hurt and let you win(I speak from experience guys :))

Also which evee did you choose now?

I ended up going with Jolteon. Now I have to level him up enough so he can actually learn some electric attacks. For now Hypno is pretty much carrying my team with some assistance from Gyrados and Bulbasaur. Vulpix and Geodude round things out.
