Furlough Fundays

Black Six

For better or worse starting July 8th I'm going to be off every Monday for eleven weeks. As those of you who have spent time with me on days off know, they're usually spent on the phone or replying to emails for various work-related things. For the government furloughs, however, we are expressly forbidden from doing any work-related activities. What am I going to do with my extra day off then? I know, maybe finally play some of the many videogames I have acquired over the years but never finished or in some cases even played.

And you're going to help.

Below is a list of games and series that I need to play to some varying degree, with descriptions. You tell me what I should play.

  • Halo - I never did beat Halo Wars, and there's plenty more achievements to get in the others. I never got all the way through Anniversary either, come to think of it...
  • Mass Effect - I need one more achievement in the first game, then I need to bring my character through the second game again, and I haven't even played the third game yet.
  • Dragon Age - I played the first one all the way through but never got through all the DLC. Only played the demo of the second one.
  • Bioshock - I played the first one, would probably play it again to harvest instead of save. Haven't played the second one or Infinite.
  • Gears of War - I've played the first game multiple times and used to LAN it. Only played Horde Mode on the second. Never played the third or Judgement.
  • Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - I have the Ultimate Sith Edition but never played it. Don't have the sequel though.
  • Batman Arkham Asylum - Own it but haven't played it.
  • Fable - Beat the first one, own the second and the third (it's free on Games on Demand!) but never played them.
  • Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay - Heard this was pretty good, picked it up cheap but never played.
  • Ghostbusters - Same as above.
  • Watchmen: The End is Nigh - Ditto.
  • Dead Rising - Fourpeat.
  • Guitar Hero/Rock Band - There's always more songs to play and more achievements to get.

Have at it!

I have Halo 1 if you want it.

All the games I mentioned above I own already. So I really don't think I need any more right now (and I own like four copies of Halo 1). Thanks though!

Beat Halo Wars, then conquer Mass Effect.

I haven't played most of these, but I thought The Force Unleashed was really good. The sequel was less interesting. Playing Fable 3 now, but it hasn't grabbed me yet.

I really recommend:

-Batman:AA: Even though I found Arkham City better, it was a pleasant game to explore the Asylum.

-Gears of War franchise: Great games with a great story to it. All in all, the series was enjoyable to play through.

-Guitar Hero/Rock Band: Never gets old. Extremely addicting.

-Star Wars: The Forced Unleashed: I absolutely loved this game. It was pretty cool to see Darth Vader's apprentice Starkiller and the time between movies III, and IV.

-Halo Franchise:The overall story of the series really comes together with the addictiveness of the multiplayer. Great series to play through.

(For Gears of War, and Halo, don't exactly know which specific games in the franchise you own.)

Have you played to TFU regular version ever?

Nope, just the demo way back when.

I own them all. All the Halos and the Gears.

I would advice the TFU then. Pretty decent story and characters and a fun games. Dont play the second one ever. It ruins everything the first one set up. Sound familiar?

I would start with The Force Unleashed. I beat the PS2 version in a few days, so it would probably be a quick and fun way to get something off your list.

Every Monday, play Monopoly against yourself until you win.

I actually just recently acquired two copies of the game from my parents (original and Star Wars) so I guess I could do that if I really wanted to?

I give you two games to play Andrew. (Black Six, whatever seems to be best for you) Play Halo then Force Unleashed. Gameplay on Force unleashed is good, but graphics weren't because it was PS2. Whatever version you have, should have better graphics.

Now the game is sorta long, but hunting for the crystals and other bits in the game will give you more gameplay. You should get the Ultimate Sith edition, which gives you all the DLC, and more gameplay.

Definitely BioShock! Finished Infinite a few weeks ago and am now going back for 1 and 2. Just beat 1 about half an hour ago haha. Already playing a second run without Vita Chambers for the achievement... But if that proves too difficult, I'll just move on to 2.

Anyways, they're fun games and a series I've been meaning to get into for a looong time. Well worth the time.

Perhaps you could play some Team Fortress 2, to increase the concentration of hats in the government.

TFU seems to be a pretty popular option so far. So I'm leaning towards that for the start.

There's not even a single player aspect to that, is there? I don't think I own it for any platform either.

I completely missed TFU in the list at first.

Yeah, play that. Especially since you've already got the DLC (which I never bothered to get... kinda still want it actually). It's a fantastic game.

Just... stay away from TFU2...

What's so bad about the sequel?

You're rather overpowered during the entire game (unlike TFU, where you naturally build up power), eliminating a lot of the challenge. It's also obscenely short. Add to that a poor story, in my opinion, and you have a fairly disappointing game in this major Star Wars fan's opinion.

If you can get it fairly cheap, I guess I wouldn't swear it off. But you've got plenty of better games on the list.

However, decimating Ewoks in the DLC was pretty fun...

I also say TFU. It's not the best game ever, but its still fun to play.

I also would suggest Batman Arkham Asylum or Bioshock. I haven't played either of them, but I've heard they're really good games.

Star Wars: the force unleashed FTW. the story and the customization is amazing. I only played it on the Wii and PS2, so I can't say I know how good it is on other consoles. go pick up the second one, too, if you like to kill millions of enemies in one go
