This reminds me of those old Grover from Sesame Street books where he was afraid of the monster at the end of the book, and so he'd be like "Don't turn the page!" and he'd try to build up barriers and then he'd be like "I TOLD YOU NOT TO TURN THE PAGE, DO YOU WANT TO SEE THE MONSTER??"

 

Of course, he was the monster at the end.

I think I had one of those books...
