Altacosmos Chronicles

I've started a new short stories series based on the idea of Bionicle "What Ifs", called the Altacosmos Chronicles. Check out the first Chronicle, up now, titled, "Altacosmos Chronicle #1: Bio Code." :)

Cred to Takuta Nui for partly inspiring this, as I say there. First episode is based on some recent revelations and things Greg has said on his blog. Adventure Mystery as always. Not directly related to the Paracosmos, but these chronicles do exist in the Unknown Library in the Paracosmos. Something I've been meaning to do for a while but never got the inspiration for it.

Got some concept art I'll scan later and probably put in an artwork topic.

And then maybe I'll actually make a banner for it and for this entry. :P

[Edit: Shortened the intro. Moving part of it here (:P) -- "Yes, I know “AC” already stands for Air Conditioning. BP stands for British Petroleum, so I’m keeping with tradition. :P" It also stands for Art Contest lol.]

Finally, coming soon schedule willing, the SS results of the last blog contest, the Monster Mystery story. Also, I just might actually write the Tales of the Ri-Rali as SSes soon. :)

Haven't read it yet, but I certainly will. But for now, I have a question for you.

Would you say all universes/realities/timelines/whateveryouwanttocall'ems are all equal in reality? If not, would you say we're real or not real? Also, how would you define "real or "not real"?

Well here's what I just wrote about that in the Twisted Island review topic:

Reality here is actually something that could be controversial. It may be true only in the opinion of the legend writer, who is basically saying that only the people in the Cosmos and the Paracosmos are "real people" -- those in Altacosmoses (the term for alternate universes, or "shadow strings") are only "images" of people.

Thus, according to the legend writer, those timelines or dimensions aren't "real." I'm sure the people in them would disagree, but that's the writer's opinion. :P

And in real life I happen to believe that is the case with our own universe, but it's just a theory not a strong belief and in this fiction I don't define it one way or another. It's perfectly plausible that the writer is wrong and all other universes, from the Kingdom official alternate timeline to other fanfictions, are just as real. Could be a perspective thing.

The "legend writer" referenced there is Caroha. :)

My theory on that in real life is based mostly on my (extremely limited) understanding of extratemporal geometry and also somewhat just on my sense of it based on my particular worldview.

Essentially, I think infinite alternate timelines branch off our own timeline, but I doubt that infinites branch off -those- timelines, as it's just hard to imagine extrageometrically. Doesn't mean I'm right though -- if there are infinite dimensional directions possible than it's no problem. And the other reason is only a sense, could be totally off.

If I'm right, what it would mean is that the actual physics power to choose belongs only to those in this timeline, and those in the alternates no longer become able to choose but everything happens totally causally. So basically free will in this timeline, but not in others. :shrugs:

Well in a sense the canon universe is the only "real" one. :P I dunno what the story team would say as to that actually being the case though.

So how do you define the word 'real'? 'cause I think you pass the limits of what that word conveys when you start talking about multiple universes: you can't say one universe is more 'real' than another, because it's relative. Every universe is the only think that's real in its own universe.

By the way, that gets messy with universe-travel, but I don't think that's gonna happen in reality anyway.

Well just to be clear, it's not the point of the story (and perhaps it is unnecessarily distracting from it?). Was mentioned in the original BP legend all along.

I'm defining it in terms of freewill, basically. In the core timeline, beings can choose what to do. In Bionicle we talk about this usually when destiny is being discussed -- a particular choice is destiny, but you can choose not to follow your destiny. So to put that into Caroha's terminology, the "real" timeline in that case channels into the possible future that was not the right thing to do. I.e. someone makes a mistake.

But in the "shadow strings" (altacosmoses), she believes they merely show possible courses of events. She doesn't think the choices being made there are actually examples of freewill, but merely how things would happen if events had gone differently. This will play a major role later on in main BP story -- but again, I'm not confirming or denying if it's actually true or not in the Paracosmos. :)

And not really saying I "know" it's true in real existence either. Really I have no idea, heh. Just a personal theory, but not one based on enough evidence to be confident of it.

Thinking about alternate universes and whatnot makes my head hurt... >_<

Especially since I might not have mentioned this in another universe... >_<

*Rubs forehead due to over-thinking things*
