Bionicle Ends Right Now

No, not really. :P But wanted to make a point about all this speculation "oh, it's ending, oh it's not" back and forth. Guys.

Always assume you are in the last year of Bionicle. Tell yourself, all the time, "this good thing could end right now; I can't take it for granted." It's better to be prepared for the worst, so that when the best happens, you are pleasantly surprised.

The other way around, you're either "okay" or dissapointed all the time. Not a healthy mindest -- when you take things for granted, you can't even enjoy them as much while they're still there.

I'm oversimplifying, but the point is valid. (And this can be applied to lots of things in life. In Bionicle, it helps a ton when seeing new sets of each year; treat it like you did in 2001; it was a pleasant surprise, not something we expected. Those of us who were there, anyways. :P)

Bionicle can end at any time.

Bionicle can continue at any time.

It is TOTALLY a choice by the executives at LEGO. There is NO way to know for sure either way, no matter what, until it actually happens.

All the arguments people are using about how it might end in 2010 sound great, but if there is massive support for the line in late 2009 and 2010, and tons of new fans coming in due to TLR and hearsay about it ending... Do you really think the execs wouldn't cash in on that by extending it? Or it might end for a time and come back as a revamp. Many, many examples of that in entertainment.

All the arguments that it ISN'T ending sound great too, but if the execs decide on a whim to cancel it, it goes bye-bye. There are many examples in entertainment of the people in charge deciding to cancel things even though they were popular. Also, with the current economy, toy companies in general may be facing huge challenges, as parents have less disposable income. As far as the future comes, I'd love to give you in-depth analysis, but unfortunately in 2009, it's impossible to do without getting into political issues, which aren't allowed here. The point is, even if the current plan is to keep Bionicle going indefinately, that could change in seconds for whatever reason.

I don't wanna see arguments pro or con here; there's a topic in GD for that. And frankly, it's all irrelevant. We don't know what the future will really bring -- and that's the point.

Prepare for the worst, but hope for the best. :)

To put it another way, the only way you'll know whether Bionicle ends in 2010 is to go to 2011 and see if it's still there. Since we don't have time-jump travel (and according to temporal mechanics, checking on it might change it :P), we have to use the only time machine we've got. Patience.

:)

ION: The next Bones Blog contest will be for the Expanded Multiverse! Stay tuned! But I might delay it so I can get some actual results up from recent blog contests. :P

I'm oh-so tempted. :P

But yeah, I totally agree. "Live every day as if it were you're last" can be used in so many ways.

I regret to inform you that this is the end! I am going now. Goodbye. *poof*

:P

One thing... yeah, while most toy companies are suffering, I'm pretty sure Lego is the exception, for various reasons, like that it's a long lasting toy so parents are keener to buy them rather than one-use toys and... um, you know, other reasons. :P

Doesn't really drive either argument home, but it's something.

I have heard that, yeah. But if things get too bad before they get better, that could change. My only point is, things can always change.

Also folks, dunno if this was brought up in bones's post 'cuz I haven't fully read it yet, but don't take sets like Vastus for granted, either. Sure, they suck, but they may not be here tomorrow. Plus they are useful in certain non-violent aspects.

That's a Dalai Lama quote, isn't it?

Might be, though I think it's Older Than Dirt.

:kaukau:I remember coming across that in a quote dictionary. It said it was an English proverb. It's a very good statement, because some people don't know how to find balance in this.

As for me, I'll argue that Bionicle will most likely continue so long as it's selling strong. Last time I checked (which was a while ago, I'll admit), Bionicle was LEGO's most popular line, so its continuation would be the logical effect.

Of course, I'm the type of guy who doesn't even bother thinking about what's going to happen next year, so I guess I fit into your philosophy of living for today as far as Bionicle goes.

Ha, it's nice to know that I'm not the only one who remembers being like "WHOAAAAAA!!!" when we learned that there was going to be more Bionicle in 2002, instead of just getting a completely new line.

Hey, I've got a time-travelling canoe, so I'll go see if Bionicle still exists in 2011. Anyone wanna come with?

Sure, I'll come.

We can find out all the spoilers and come back and spoil it all for you. MUWAHAHAHA!
