Just think - if we hadn't won, we'd still be wearing top hats and speaking in British accents, we'd be saluting the queen, and we'd be playing cricket instead of baseball and soccer instead of football. :P

Also, go Egypt!

:kaukau: Well, I doubt the part about the British accents. British accents are rather varied, if you actually go there (and if you live there, where you'll especially have an ear for the fine differences). I think that we started developing our own accents even before we declared independence, since we didn't have instant communications back then to give everyone a standardized speech pattern. You could also say that since the Union won the Civil War, everyone would be talking in a New England accent, but the Southerners kept their drawl, the Texans their twang, the Minnesotans their long O's, and so forth. Even within states, there are different accents, which is particularly noticeable in Florida, where the peninsula actually has less of a Southern drawl than the northern stretch.

Obviously, I'm overthinking it. So let me simplify my thought process: Yeah, thank heavens we don't speak in Bri'ish accents - how snobbish we would sound!

During the Revolutionary War we came within one day of annexing Canada, and during the Mexican-American War we nearly absorbed the entirety of Mexico.

This means that, in some alternate reality, the United States takes up very nearly the entirety of North America.

Don't forget we had control of Haiti, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic at points too. :P

I don't see how saying that is at all okay.

It's not at all okay. It's actually rather offensive.
