Call me cruel, but I was going to make an entry titled "Are we crying over Twinkies?". However I just went with "Things I learned from the Internet". I understand why people are saddened by this development, I remember the commercials for these things and they were apparently good. I think seeing a big (read huge) company like hostess fail is shocking to most people but this happens a lot to small companies. We live in turbulent times my friend.

I've honestly never had a Twinkie.

While, sure, my entry was about a less-than-healthy snack being gone, I know it's not the heart of the story. That's the tremendous job loss and economic implications that carries.

I've honestly never had a Twinkie. (But do actually love Swiss Rolls.)

Plus the fact that a long lasting icon went poof.

Well, that's one less deep-fried item in local carnivals and fairs.

Now we'll have to deep fry other stuff. Like butter by the pounds or some other food that has the equivalent calorie content that we all strive to see in fine dining.

(I'm a dessert snob. I shed no tears for the loss, though I am a bit shocked by the news)

Why does anyone think the snacks themselves are endangered? If the company's assets are being liquidated, one of the things they'll be doing is selling the right to produce Twinkies, and I'm sure other snack food companies will be scrambling to make the best offer. Unless I'm mistaken about the situation.

I find it funny that I heard this from BZPower blogs first, and actually had to search through news sites to find a related article.

Anyway, not a huge fan, so really don't care. But it makes me wonder what I would do if Pepperidge Farms shut down and stopped producing Gold Fish crackers. :fear:
