Nice. Hopefully I'll get my own flute one of these days. Or my own alto Saxophone or French horn, if I get good enough.

How long have you been playing?

Lol! I'll try to answer the questions.

Snoopy -- other people have named their trumpets, I've never named mine. I'll think about it and get back to you on that.

Cholie -- :P

Mizzeh -- why thank you!

Majikthise -- about $1500, though my family helped out a bit.

CG -- boy.

Frugly Capn -- Good luck! I hope you continue with your instruments. It's a great experience. I've technically been "playing" for 7 years now, but I've only been seriously playing and practicing for 4 years. :)

You're right, it is a great experience. It's a shame a lot of people in my school don't appreciate how great it is and think it's a waste of time. This is my third year playing the flute. I'm a few weeks into the French horn. I'm okay on it. And unfortunately I can't practice the alto sax yet because I can't find a fingering chart. I'll be able to get one from my band teacher tomorrow, though.

I thought flute fingering is very similar to alto sax... am I right?

Yeah, don't pay attention to other people who think it's a waste of time... every band member gets that at one point or another. Have fun, and (if you're not in high school yet) continue playing into high school. It gets better. If your school's music program is anything like mine, you have a lot to look forward to. :)

Yes, they are, except alto saxes have something like 24 keys and flutes have only fourteen.

And I actually am in high school. No middle school here in Vancouver. Our band program is pretty good. A while back when I was in grade three or something we had this awesome teacher (who of course never taught me since I only started in grade six. In fact, she's at one of their practices right now) whose name of course I can't say. He stayed for a few years, then retired. He still teaches a band of near-professional adult musicians, of which my sister is a member (she plays the clarinet and has been for something like six years). Then we had a not-so-good teacher (a brass player - the one before him could play everything in the band) who stayed for I think two or three years. After him we had a someone who could play everything and was a professional clarinetist, but wasn't a very good teacher (she taught me in my first year of playing the flute). She stayed for a year, and was followed by an absolutely horrid teacher who was a jazz musician and played the bass guitar. He couldn't teach very well either. He also stayed for a year. Our current teacher is quite good, and at least has some experience on most of the instruments. He's a percussionist. He's also very ambitious - he wants to take us to Seattle for an overnight stay sometime this year, and we're going to an official rehearsal of the VSO (Vancouver Symphony Orchestra) this year.

And I should add that all these teachers taught at the high school I'm attending currently as well as at least three elementary schools (mine included), except the current teacher. They've changed the elementary band program into some sort of a music appreciation-like thing, which makes me glad I'm not in elementary school anymore.

Wow. This turned out a lot longer than I had expected.
