In Flames

as mentioned here, I also thought I'd show off my In Flames collection, which is by far my most complete - between the albums with bonus tracks and EPs, I've got basically every finished, studio-recorded song the band has released except for "Discover Me Like Emptiness" from the Soundtrack to Your Escape limited edition and Masters of Horror soundtrack - and I do plan on hunting down the latter so I'll have it eventually.

from the top to the bottom:

- Lunar Strain/Subterranean (Regain Records single-disc reissue)
- Lunar Strain (2005 Candlelight Records reissue)
- Subterranean EP (2005 Candlelight Records reissue)
- The Jester Race (2008 Reloaded edition + Black-Ash Inheritance EP)
- Whoracle (2008 Reloaded edition)
- Colony (2008 Reloaded edition)
- Clayman (2008 Reloaded edition)
- Trigger EP
- Reroute to Remain (x2; the upside-down one is a spare I may sell)
- Soundtrack to Your Escape
- Come Clarity
- The Mirror's Truth single/EP (German pressing)
- A Sense of Purpose
- Sounds of a Playground Fading

as a sidenote, I've got a couple orders that are supposed to come in soon, and after they do I may post an entry showing off all the things I've acquired within the past few weeks. I used to have a similar thing except it was just a "Most Recent Musical Acquisitions" content block with the album art, but now that I have an iPod with a much better quality camera, I think I'm starting to enjoy taking actual pictures of what I've got instead.

following up on what I stated previously, I've finally finished off my Katatonia collection for now. I'd like to get the digipak reissues of Discouraged Ones and Tonight's Decision as well as the For Funerals to Come EP at some point, but for now I've got all of the studio albums in one form or another so I'm pleased.

from the top to the bottom:

- Dance of December Souls (2007 remaster + Jhva Elohim Meth EP)
- Brave Murder Day (2006 remaster + Sounds of Decay EP)
- Discouraged Ones (Century Black US pressing)
- Tonight's Decision
- Last Fair Deal Gone Down (Icarus Argentina pressing)
- Last Fair Deal Gone Down (10th Anniversary Edition)
- Viva Emptiness (Icarus Argentina pressing)
- Viva Emptiness (10th Anniversary Edition)
- The Great Cold Distance
- Night Is the New Day (2011 Tour Edition)
- Dead End Kings
- Dethroned & Uncrowned

one thing to note is that the Icarus Argentina pressing of Last Fair Deal Gone Down is technically no longer mine, as last night I sold it to The Xinlo, pending shipment within the next week. as the recently-acquired 10th Anniversary Edition uses the exact same mastering and includes the same artwork, this previous copy was rendered obsolete in my collection.

I got a picture of my In Flames collection at the same time I got pictures of this, so I'll probably be posting that sometime soon.

Opeth

as promised, here is my technically complete Opeth collection:

Posted Image

I say technically because I don't own the first three albums individually, but rather in a box set which does not include the booklets, and I only own the remaster of Still Life and not the original.

from the top to the bottom:

- The Candlelight Years box set (Japanese version; includes Orchid, Morningrise, and My Arms Your Hearse with bonus tracks)
- Still Life (2009 remastered version)
- Blackwater Park (2011 Legacy Edition)
- Collector's Edition Slipcase box set (includes individual jewel case CDs of Blackwater Park, Deliverance, Dangnation*, and the exclusive Lamentations 2-CD live album)
- Ghost Reveries
- Watershed
- Heritage (special edition)

I've put in an order at the local FYE for the last missing piece of my Katatonia collection, so expect pictures of that sometime next week.

The Minecraft Movie

Posted by Ryuujin , Feb 27 2014 · 223 views

according to Deadline:

Minecraft, one of the hottest video game franchises in the market today, is going to be made into a major motion picture. Warner Bros. just acquired the rights to the wildly popular game from Swedish indie developer Mojang AB (mojang means gadget in Swedish). The property already is getting huge interest from writers and filmmakers as Warners is putting together a live-action version. Roy Lee, who produced the megahit The Lego Movie with Dan Lin and has launched a franchise for Warner Bros, is handling Minecraft for the studio via his Vertigo Entertainment along with Jill Messick (Mean Girls and Mean Moms) who will also produce in some capacity, studio sources said. Jon Berg is the executive in charge at the studio. CAA brokered the deal for the film rights.

honestly this makes even less sense than The Lego Movie did. Minecraft literally has no story. it's a sandbox video game with even more creative limitations than Lego.

Music Spotlight: Tegan and Sara

Posted by Ryuujin , Feb 12 2014 · 122 views

I was going to post an entry tonight showing off my recently-completed collection of albums by The Cure along with a ranking of their discography from worst to best, but since the final piece I needed in order to do so didn't arrive today against my expectations, I've decided to do something else.

as a sort of follow up to a recent somewhat-tongue-in-cheek entry of mine, I've put together a collection of songs (11 to be exact, 3 that I consider either favorites or notable from each of my 3 favorite albums plus a couple extra goodies) that I feel would be helpful to anyone who might have recently discovered Tegan and Sara through the song they contributed to The Lego Movie, "Everything Is Awesome", and would like to check out more. I'd recommend listening to at least one song from each album, as their style tended to evolve and vary from one to the next.

If It Was You (2002)
"Time Running" / "Living Room" / "Don't Confess"

So Jealous (2004)
"You Wouldn't Like Me" / "Take Me Anywhere" / "Walking with a Ghost"

The Con (2007)
"The Con" / "Nineteen" / "Are You Ten Years Ago"

Bonus

"Borne on the FM Waves of the Heart" - Against Me! ft. Tegan Quin / "Still Alive" - Jonathan Coulton ft. Sara Quin

guess what movie I saw

Posted by Ryuujin , Feb 07 2014 · 99 views

that's right, last night I rewatched the original Friday the 13th!

regardless of all the movies and shows he's done or his numerous Hollywood connections, I'll always remember Kevin Bacon as the guy who got stabbed in the throat with an arrow from underneath the bed.

Mark Zuckerberg Is Lex Luthor

Posted by Ryuujin , Jan 31 2014 · 192 views

casting Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in Batman/Superman seems like a weird idea until you realize that he's actually the same age as Henry Cavill

if he plays the character anything like he played Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network, though, I can see him pulling it off pretty well
