What I Purchased At An American Retail Music Store

If you can't read the sticker, it states the following:

Price including tax ¥3,855
Limited edition - Japan only!
Unreleased anywhere else in the world!
12 page book
Extensive liner notes
New artwork
3 CDs - Digipak - Collectors Edition

So yeah. Somehow, the local FYE managed to get a copy of the original Japan-exclusive digipak version of Opeth's The Candlelight Years box set, which includes their first three albums remastered with bonus tracks. Although it was released in North America later on with different packaging, this particular edition was limited to 2,000 copies. And I got it for $20.

One of the coolest aspects of it (and unfortunately the least photographable) is that the discs, rather than being your standard shiny silver CDs, are actually solid black on both sides. They look sorta like mini vinyl records, and it's awesome.

that is sick dude, nice deal. would be super jealous if i liked Opeth more, just kinda jealous now

the cd thing reminds me of The Dillinger Escape Plan's last album, they had a special version where one side of the cd was the regular album and the other side was literally vinyl and has a bonus track on it. interesting stuff

amendment: i wonder if this was authorized by Opeth or if it was a play by the label to earn some extra cash out of an artist that moved on. i hope it's the former, whenever labels do that it's so lame

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure it was the latter. Normally I wouldn't buy a product like that, but considering the circumstances, I figured it'd be a good collector's piece. Plus I didn't have any of those three albums, so..

well at least it looks like the label put some actual effort in the package, so i can't really judge you for it (not that i would've in the first place). it's really worse when they get some poopy artwork and slap 3 cds in there with nothing else. that's just cheap
