I got their new album and completed my collection of their only good ones.

nope, I'm not missing any albums at all. third and fourth albums? what third and fourth albums?

from top to bottom:

- Burn My Eyes

- The More Things Change...

- Through the Ashes of Empires (US edition with bonus track "Seasons Wither")

- The Blackening (2-disc special edition with two bonus cover tracks)

- Unto the Locust

- Bloodstone & Diamonds

no, but seriously, this collection is technically incomplete. you couldn't even pay me to buy The Burning Red or Supercharger.

personally, Burn My Eyes and The More Things Change are my favorites. crushingly heavy, groovy beasts of albums. classic 90s metal.

new one is solid, if a bit unmemorable on first listen. it's not too different from the last two so if you dig them you'd definitely dig it. Unto the Locust has grown on me a lot over time, but I could possibly see myself appreciating this one a bit more more in the future.

That's pretty much what I thought too. Hasn't been long since I listened to it, but I already hardly remember it. Basically felt like the last two albums, but without anything to make it stand out from them. It's not bad, but kinda feels pointless when you have the previous two albums.

I'll probably give it another listen before the end of the year, but I'm not expecting a drastic change of opinion.

having listened to the album more, and especially having had the chance to spend time with a lot of the songs individually, I can say it's shaping up to be a fast grower. in particular I'm noticing a lot of layers and differences that I didn't before which actually set it apart from the previous two albums. there's a lot more atmosphere, Rob shows more diversity and range with his voice, and overall it feels like there's a lot more of a sense of melody throughout the whole thing.

"Ghosts Will Haunt My Bones", "Beneath the Silt", "In Comes the Flood", and "Game Over" in particular are some songs that really stand out to me now. "Beneath" has some surprisingly strong Deftones vibes and "Game" has one of the catchiest choruses I've ever heard in a Machine Head song.

so after further examination, if the songs continue to hold up on more repeated listenings, I honestly think this could come close to matching The Blackening for me in time.
