Series 11 Collectible Minifigures Reviews

So I posted a short review of some of these figs a month ago, but that entry has been lost. So instead of trying to find and repost it, I'm just going to rewrite it, and include the rest of the series, since I just finished my collection. (Won't be as comprehensive as a front page review, but whatev.) I'll order em basically in the order I picked them up.

Gingerbread Man

Such a cool idea. Good frosting printings on arms, legs, and torso, and the "Dunk Me" cup is great. The head is the most unique piece here, and it's just wide enough to fit on the neck connection. (Although I wish it came in a non-smiley version; I want a fearful Gingerbread man about to be dunked into a life-sized cup. :P )

To find him, I would try to locate the cup via the handle, but if you can identify the solid round head, that works too. He comes 4 to a box.

Yeti

Oh man, one of my favorites from this series. The light blue printing and detailed molding are all excellent, and his overall appearance can easily swing from the cuddly snow beast to the ferocious monster of the Himalayas. The trans medium blue popsicle is also a nice touch, and glows nicely under a black light. I would say he's a must have!

To find him, you could try feeling for the big body piece, which is the largest single element in this series. But locating the distinct shape of the popsicle can also help. He's common at 6 to a box.

Female Scientist

People like that we got a female fig in a non conventional female job. I enjoy the torso printings is great, and it's always nice to have a new female face with glasses. Colored flasks are cool too, and the blue one is currently unique to this set.

To find here, try to feel for one of the two flasks, which with have a distinctive cone-like shape. They could be confused for elements, like the goblet or cone element, but she has two of them, so if you find both, you know it's her. She comes 4 to a box.

Diner Waitress

As cool as this concept is, I think they made a terrible color choice. Technically, her torso is light yellow, but it's too similar to her yellow skin tone, and just doesn't look right. She has a two sided face: one happy, one "oh, that's how much you're going to tip." She has a new hair piece, which has a ponytail and swish in the front. She also has roller-skates in dark pink and an ice cream element in light pink, both unique colors. (Also a tray piece in white and a clear goblet.) Everything about her is great except for her color choice.

To find her, I would try for the roller-skates, which are small but have a distinct feel. You might also find the round tray or the goblet (but don't confuse it for a different piece.) She's rare, coming only 2 to a box.

Pretzel Girl

A female variation of the S8 Lederhosen Guy, but she's a great cultural fig. She comes with a cloth skirt, which actually has some decent printing on it, compared to most other skirts. She also has a new hairpiece with two ponytails on the back. (Similar to the Cowgirl of S8, but without a hat built into the mold.) And she comes with a pretzel.

To find her, you could always try for the pretzel. Another would be her hair piece, which is slightly rubbery and has a distinctive split between the two ponytails. She's also rare and comes 2 to a box.

Scarecrow

It's nice to have a realistic scarecrow, instead of multiple Batman villain types. He has decent tattered clothes printing, and a new tan stray head. The hat is a new mold, and comes with a hole to pin in a crow bird, which is the same one that appeared in the Lone Ranger sets. He also holds a pitchfork, which is kind of rare.

To find him, the best piece to identify would be the pitchfork, which will have a long handle that ends with the wider bars. You could also try for the hat, but it's similar to some other hats (saxophone player and constable) so be careful there. He's rare and comes 2 to a box.

Saxophone Player

Blues Brothers, no doubt; even has the sunglasses. The torso is a basic black suit, and the hat is just the black fedora that we've seen many times before. But the saxophone piece is new and really detailed! My only issue is that it's hard for him to hold it in a way that looks like he's playing it. I guess it's bound to be awkward for any blown instrument, but I wish they would've detailed the mold so it could be played better.

To find him, you should try to find the unique shape of the saxophone. Or the hat, but it's similar to other hats (scarecrow and constable) so I wouldn't use just that. He's rare and comes 2 to a box, meaning that it could be hard to pick up two of them, but I have found quite a few in my local stores, so maybe he's not in as much demand as I predicted?

Evil Mech

Who doesn't like an evil mech? He has great printing on his legs, arms, torso (even though most of that is hidden), head, helmet, and armor. It even has a Blacktron I logo on the armor, so a good calling to classic space sets! Unlike the good Mech of S9, this robot comes with a weapon; a classic blow-dryer with a trans neon green cone! Hope he can use it better than those old Lego Stormtroopers. ;)

To find him, you could feel for the armor, whose shoulder blades should help set it apart from other elements. Also the blow-dryer piece with its handle can identify this set. He comes 4 to a box.

Island Warrior

We've got another islander fig, and the Tiki mask is really awesome and detailed, although it is rubbery. And since it fits via a neck bracket as opposed to just a mask, it lets the figure also wear the classic island hair piece, complete with a bone attached. His face and torso have some blue body paint on them, and his legs have a grass skirt printed on. (Which is interesting because last time they went with a cloth skirt for the S3 Hula girl.) And he wields a spear.

To find him, you would think you would try to find the Tiki mask, but you're wrong, because it's fairly flat and doesn't have a distinctive texture. Instead, I would look for the small bone piece, which has a distinct shape and is easy to isolate. The spear is another good one to find; just make sure you don't mistake it for the Scarecrow's pitchfork. The Island Warrior only comes 2 to a box, and he's also very popular, so it was really hard to find him. (Brickthing was actually the one who identified him at the Lego Store for me, so I can't even claim that I found him. :P )

Lady Robot

This is an interesting idea; a female variation of the S6 Clockwork Robot. She has some nice pink robot detailing, as well as the wind-up key on her back. I don't know what else to say about her; she's robotic. She's not the most exciting of figs, but you can't say no to another robot? (At least she doesn't appear quite as evil as those in the upcoming Lego Movie.)

To find her, the best bet would to be to feel for the wind-up key piece, which should be easy to identify and have a distinct feel. She comes 4 to a box.

Holiday Elf

This is a cool idea, just in time for the holidays. He comes with a 2x2 bricks, a printed present tile, a teddy bear with a bow tie, and a new pointy hat with elf ears. Plus, a decent torso printing and a goofy face grin. Not the most exciting fig, in my opinion, but a classic character. My main problem is that the hat and legs are in bright green (that new slightly-off green shade) while the body is classic green. I wish they had been more consistent.

To find him, I would try to feel out the 2x2 brick, which is more square-ish than any other part in the set. You could also try for the bear, but that's a weird mold to feel for and can confuse you. The 2x2 tiles could also help, or if you can verify that you've found the short legs instead of any bendable legs. He comes 4 to a box.

Grandma

Hey, an old lady fig! That's good for some variety, especially with the S10 Grandpa. I don't remember if her hair piece is a reused mold or a new one that's similar to some older ones... but either way this is its first time in gray. Her torso and arms are in lavender (a first, I believe, although I wish it had been medium lavender) and her legs are in light aqua, which is also a first, I think. She also comes with a cool new cat mold, which I totally approve of. It's more similar to the standard dog molds, and not quite as cutsie as the Friends animals. Oh, and a basket, the same as carried by S7 Grandma's Visitor AKA Little Red Riding Hood. Coincidence? (I hope we get the Wolf in a future wave, and aren't forced to use one of the Chima figs.)

To find her, I would go for the rubbery basket element. Even that one isn't super distinctive, and the cat is kind of hard to identify as well. So this one is kind of tricky to find be feeling. She's also rare, and comes just 2 to a box.

Mountain Climber

I think this is a really cool fig, and the red and black stand out. True, he could've had one of the smaller ice picks instead of the giant pick axe, but I can stand that. He also comes with a new rubbery loop or rope. (Which, coincidentally, is just wide enough to fit around the center of a minifig head.) I know some people would call this one a dud, but I like him.

To find him, I would try to locate the pick ax, which has a long handle that's Ts out on the top blades. It's not quite as long as the pitchfork or spear, so it should be easy to identify. He's also common, at 6 to a box, so there's bound to be lots of extras.

Constable

Okay, yes, this is another policeman, but distinct enough that I think he's worth it. Plus, he has cultural relevancy! The helmet with printing is nice, but for the face I wish the strap hadn't been printed on. (Same issue I had with the S5 Royal Guard.) But my biggest gripe is his baton. It's so tiny, and it hardly looks like a threat at that size! (Okay, maybe the size is accurate for real life, but I still think it looks puny.)

To find him, you should try to find the abnormally short baton piece, which has distinct ridges around the handle. You could also go for the helmet, but don't confuse it for other hats (scarecrow and saxophone player.) Luckily, he comes 6 to a box, so it should be easy to find him or build up your historic police force.

Welder

This is a cool working class fig. He comes with a unique helmet piece and welder piece, as well a back-and-front torso printing and a grimy face. Plus, a 1x1 round brick with a fire symbol printed on it. The welder piece has the torch on one end that the fig can hold, and then a wire that connects to the cap, which attaches to the round brick via a short rod, which is a stronger connection that just a stud, which is what I thought it was at first. I do kind of wish that the helmet faceplate has a trans black visor, but I guess that would be too unsafe. :P

To find him, the best bet is to go for the welder piece. It's a very weird shape to feel, and it's bendy and has the rod-cap attachment. It's hard to recognize at first, but once you get use to it, it becomes easier to identify. But be warned; the welders helmet is also a piece that could easily be confused for various hair pieces. (It nearly tricked me a couple of times.) And the welder is common, at 6 to a box, so there'll be quite a few extras of him in most boxes.

Barbarian

Honestly, this was my least favorite fig, since this theme has already been played out with the S5 Gladiator and S6 Highlander. He has decent printing on his face, torso (back and front), and legs, but again to me it's nothing we haven't seen before. Even his two swords are fairly common now, having appeared a bunch in the LotR/Hobbit sets. But while I originally thought his Dastan hair was in dark brown and thus boring, it is actually in black. While that piece exists, it's only in expensive sets, so it's nice to get a cheap version. I guess he's worth something after all!

To find him, look for the swords, which have a pretty distinct feel to the blades. He comes 4 to a box.

And that's all of em. Now I'm eagerly awaiting Series 12. (If Series 13 is the Simpsons, then it might be the first one I skip entirely. But all, ALL, the ones in 12 are on my want list!)
