I have just conducted what is likely my largest rebuild of old sets ever…
I can already see a difference. A few days ago, the pile on my floor was opaque… you couldn’t see the carpet underneath all the pieces. First, I separated system pieces from technic pieces… making my pile of system pieces much smaller and easier to shift through, as all the little nitpicky pieces were all technic. Then I spend days rebuilding canister sets by memory, before tackling the instruction books to build some of the Titans from previous years. And when I was done with all my Bionicles, I started rebuilding some of my Throwbots and Roboriders… and much to my surprise I had all the pieces needed to build them. Wow.
It’s still obvious that I’m missing a few pieces that are scattered throughout my room/house or lost completely, or being taken up by the four MOCs I left untouched. But most of them could be replaced, and I have some unique replacements for them.
Here’s a list of things I’ve build this last week.
- Barakki (four, some of which never got unbuilt)
- Toa Inika
- Piraka
- Toa Metru
- Toa Hordika (five plus Toa Iruini)
- Visorak (the three which I have)
- Rahkshi (five)
- Vahki
- Toa Nuva
- Toa Mata
- Bohrok
- Bohrok Kal (four)
- Four MOC Matoran I made for Brickfest that I couldn’t take apart because I like them so much (Jaller, Matoro, Nuparu, and Hewkii.) Their pieces are stolen from Titans, but their so small that not many sets are missing essential pieces)
- Keetongu (missing armor pieces that are used in Nuparu and Jaller’s feet)
- Krehka (missing armor pieces that are used on Matoro’s feet)
- Lhikan and Kikinalo (missing spike pieces to be used on Nuparu’s axe)
- The Boxer (driven by Mctoran Takua)
- Pewku, ridden by 2003 Matoran Hahli
- Nui-Jaga (The purple one. The aqua one is left unbuilt because I don’t have enough pieces to build both)
- Tarakava (The teal one. I don’t have enough pieces to also build the blue one)
- Gahdok (the blue Bahrag [even though I don’t really know which name fits to which Bahrag, I have always labeled the blue one as Gahdok, even though it may be incorrect. Hey, sue me.] I’ve been missing some essential body pieces for a Bahrag for years now, so I can only build one at a time. Since Jaller’s MOC is using a bunch of Cahdok’s red pieces, I build Gahdok instead)
- Takanuva (I blew off the Ussalnui. Useless machine, very annoying to pose, and I don’t think I have enough leftover pieces to build it anyway)
- Lerahk (I’m missing the top to his green canister, so he couldn’t go in storage)
- Two Mahri-Nui Matoran and a Hydruka (they never got torn apart)
- Four Voya-Nui Matoran (Velika, Dalu, Piruk, and Kazi) (Garan and Balta are donating pieces to my MOC Matoran, so they’re unbuild)
- Two Rahaga (Norik and Iruini)
- Five Matoran Metru (Nurhii, Vhisola, Ahkmou, Ehrii, and an Onu-Matoran. Since I lost Tehutti’s mask, I replaced it with a Miru and it just became Kulagi. Ha!)
- Three 2003 Matoran (Macku, Hafu [disguised as MNOLG Taipu] and Kopeke) (Matoro, Hewkii, and Takua are dismantled in order to provide pieces to the MOCs of Matoro, Hewkii, and Jaller) (Hahli, or course, is on the crab)
- Six Bohrok Va (Yes, I was able to construct the Bohrok Va, having not done so since 2003. Although there were a few substitutions thanks to missing pieces of the right color)
- Six Turaga (and they’re all in good condition, too)
- A Makuta Mctoran (Basically Nuparu, but with an infected Hau instead of a Pakari)
- Eight original Throwbots/Slizers. Some are modified slightly, but they’ve been that way for years. For example, Scuba’s hips are a bit wider because her legs kept falling off, Turbo has two hands and a different style of wheel connectors to keep them from falling off, and Amazon has a different katana and antenna, because I lost the previous pieces long ago. Electro’s wings used to have a different connection, but yesterday I remade her so they actually flap again… she hasn’t been able to do that for years. Torch and Jet are both missing their feet pieces… two of which are being used on Hewkii’s MOCs, and two of which are unaccounted for at the moment (but I did have them, because I used them on Hahli’s MOC before I took it apart. Where they are, I have no idea). Also, since a red joint connector broke as Tahu’s hand, I took out Torch’s red hip to give Tahu a decent color scheme. Torch instead got a leftover Rahkshi head, from the duplicate Panrahk I have un-built. (Note, the Panrahk is one of only two duplicate sets I have.) And, of course, some of Granite’s pieces are warped when he got left under a desk light years ago and melted a bit. But he still works.
- Then, since I had some instructions and pieces, I built four Roboriders I had; (Dust, Onyx, Swamp, and Lava). They’re all slightly modified with extra side wheel to give them stability, and all their weapons are customized because I lost their originals (or, in the case of Swamp, am using them as Mini-figure swords). I didn’t have enough pieces to build Power (the yellow Roborider) because A: they were being used elsewhere as replacement pieces and B: his arm pieces are all broken. So, instead, I build this little technic motor-bike (I plan to discuss this further in a future blog) and attached Power’s head to it, and added a few side-blasters. So he’s almost an MOC, one of which I might take some picts of.
All in all, this is probably a massive blog, and I’m going to use the spoiler tag to hide all that information. (as you should know by now). If you read all of it, you must be really bored. I mostly wrote it for my enjoyment, knowing very few people would have the interest and/or patience for it.

(And I left a few errors in the text about my sets above… you know, the kind people always like to mention in replies. If they want to find them this time, they’re gonna need to read until their eyes are sore. Hahaha…)
