Of note... this is 3:30 AM for me, and I've been up since 8:00 AM yesterday (with a few nice naps). Yes, I'm not as bad as Smeag was in his latest entry, but I have been up for a while and my writing's gonna be erratic, so yeah...
Anyway, today's special for a few reasons. #1- at 6:00 AM, straight away, is registration for my next quarter of college courses. Very competitive... especially since most of the classes I've had my eye on have already been filled by people with earlier registration dates. (Curse them... it's some random digit in their student ID number that gives them an earlier day). Anyway, I need to be up at that time to click the refresh on their registration website until I get the classes I want... hey, it's not BZP's server so F% is going down. (I'm sure plenty of college bound peoples here can relate)
Thus, in 2 hours and 30 minutes, I gotta be awake to do this.
I spent most of my night messing around on the computer, looking up classes I can take, and just preparing for registration. My roomie was out at a study party for most of the night, so I was expecting him back around 5ish... just in time to wake me up. So, at 3 AM, I'm thinking of turning in, getting a few hours of shuteye before registration, then I'd sleep through the morning and blow off chem lecture (I took the #$&@ midterm yesterday, so I demand a break... anyway, half the people skip that lecture anyway, and it'll only be second time... the first was when I was sick as Krazahni.) So at 3, as I got ready to brush my teeth, I got a surprise when my roomie showed up early. He wanted a few hours of sleep. Then we got another big surprise.
T'was the fire alarm. Some totally uncool dude burnt popcorn at 3 in the morning.
So, big screeching sounds are getting people out of bed and out into the cold night, half asleep. Except me, who was wide awake and aware of everything around him. Because I knew it was going to be dull and cold outside, I grabbed my jacket and Ipod, and rocked out to tunes for 30 minutes as they got the fire trucks to pull up and approve of the situation. Lots of people were plenty angry... how would you like to get awakened at 3, especially if you have to get up to do something important at 6? And my dorm has a tradition (curse?) of people being dimwitted and setting off the fire alarms at the worst times and way too often. (Last time, they set the alarm off on the only day of the week I could sleep in... thus ruining my morning). So people like to say "Let McCarty Burn" (McCarty being my dorm, not any specific math teacher I may have had in the 6th grade) But the uncool dude who set off that alarm, besides being hated for a month by the student population of the dorm if they knew he/she was responsible, will also get fined nicely for setting off the alarm and summoning the amazingly fast firefighters (props to them when it isn't even an emergency). I wouldn't want to be him... thus I watch my food when I cook it and refrain from burning popcorn early in the morning.
Now I'm contemplating taking a short nap until registration or just staying up and watching some DVD. I'm going with the latter and am skipping morning classes for once.
Maybe I'll even post a blog on the classes I'm trying to get into... later. Now, I just need to make it through the night in one piece.
