This almost makes me want a PS4. Almost.

(I don't know anything about this franchise but Platinum being involved makes me want it)

The game's story is written by Yoko Taro, who's best known for his work on the Drakengard series and its spin-off, NieR. He's pretty much the epitome of an auteur because as far as the story goes, he always does what he likes no matter how unsettling or surreal it may be. He also plays around with some fourth-wall breaking actions, in much the same way that people who've played Undertale might recognise or appreciate. NieR in particular uses such an act to utterly break your heart in its Ending D path.

For this title though, the merging of Yoko Taro and Platinum Games is pretty much the ultimate match made in heaven. You've got the high point of video game story telling together with the high point of actual gameplay.

The combat looks amazing.

But it was that or Scalebound, Recore and Halo.

Still looks really cool. Might have to hijack my friends PS4 to try it.

The combat is a nice thing to have, but it's not the thing I care for most of all. I'm just happy to see Taro returning to this universe and I'm really curious to see where he takes it - especially since NieR never seemed to leave much room for a sequel.
