The New Year Update

hurricane sandy, i wanted to post and 2 more...
Sandy Updates New Year Edition

(Note: Most of this was typed about two weeks ago. I’ve added a few things since then.)

I am just now getting around to typing this. We have been super busy and will continue to be super busy for the coming month. An important deadline is coming up for us regarding the Insurance company… namely the deadline for filing a lawsuit. This is a deadline that we unfortunately can’t miss otherwise our case can be thrown out. It sucks that some parts of the law are more beneficial to the insurance company.

We’ve been working on paperwork nonstop and we finished the big thing we’ve been working on for ourselves and our neighbors to help them out. Essentially we are calculating through a program the cost to replace everything. Every piece of wire, doorknob, and every little thing that we can think of that we had and lost. It adds up to a lot of money It would be best if the insurance company would settle, if we have to sue them, a lawyer would get 1/3rd of the settlement, which is still money that we would need to rebuild.

Either way we still have more documents to go through for this whole thing and it is beyond tedious. This will be taking up a lot of our time and has let to almost no time to ourselves or time for relaxing. (I haven’t played a video game in like weeks. >_<)

We also went to a gathering for other people like us and got information/talked to lawyers/ etc. We also learned why our insurance company is being so difficult. After Hurricane Irene most of the insurance companies dropped a lot of people. Our insurance company was one of the ones people flocked to. Thus they have only been trying to pay out small amounts even when houses are 100% totaled.

We’ve also spoken with multiple lawyers and legal interns who are looking into things for us. These are have been meetings that have been going on for awhile.

Currently one of the combined things of paperwork is currently at least 80 pages long. And getting longer.

In addition we also learned that the town has raised the taxes on most of the unlivable houses. Did you know a CONDEMNED house can increase in value by $30,000?! Neither did I! So this is another thing we have to deal with because those taxes should not be there because we you know… don’t have a home we can live in.

One of the sad things that is happening is to some of our friends, when we were helping them with their paperwork one of the days they were over they kinda had a big fight. It was awkward and there was nothing we could do… and I do fear something like that happening to us. I don’t want that to happen… and I know we’ve had rising tempers and stress levels and it is scary because the tension is so high.

Heck we haven’t really been able to hang out with anyone in person or online recently. It is frustrating because we need stress relief and so many other things.

Oh, we also had a boiler pipe spring a leak at our temporary (ha ha ha is it still temporary a year and 3 months later?) house. And then last week we had another part stop working at 2 in the morning. Thankfully, we were able to get that fixed too.

This year has not started out too well.

Although we have had some good things happen… and I won a small Sword Art Online contest on Facebook… so there is that.

The Dock

hurricane sandy
Hey all, it is time for the usual Hurricane Sandy related updates.

So we talked to so more people who are going to help us with important documentation such as the Proof of Loss that has to be submitted. The reason we need help is this is one of the most important forms. It has to be 110% perfect. It may be necessary for a future step that we might need to do if we can't get the insurance company to come up to our level.

We still need money and they don't want to pay. Therefore we might need to sue them before the deadline passes for us near the middle/end of February. Obviously we don't want to do that for many reasons. The lawyer would get 1/3 of the settlement. Not only that court cases can take awhile. Especially if the insurance company loses and then appeals. Not only that the Proof of Loss has to be perfect for a court case. If there is even the smallest mistake the case could be thrown out and we'd be screwed. (Even more than we have been.) The proof of loss is one pretty much a $1,000 document for a reason. It isn't the only $1,000 document we've had to pay out of pocket for either.

Anyway, while we were talking to the guy today we noticed our neighbor's dock was a few inches lower. It is starting to collapse a bit. Needless to say it has to be taken care of for the safety of even our own dock. We will be calling them tomorrow to let them know what we saw.

The quest continues...

Thanksgiving

life
I have a few updates for everyone. First off this week has been super busy so I was unable to post the next lovely story. Sorry about that.

I did have some good things happen though! But first I do want to thank a few people. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for all of you.

These people are (in no particular order):
Jedi Master J.
Alku
Hahli Husky
Princess Grr
My friends at Squishbag
My darling Aleks
And pretty much everyone I've talked to this year

Seriously, this past year has been tough and sadly I don't foresee things getting better anytime soon. Physically and emotionally it has been tough. More than once my thoughts turned dark. But my friends have been a great help. Thank you!

My dad was home for Thanksgiving and is doing much better. He is taking things easy right now.

In more good news on Thanksgiving we got to play a bit of 4-player Super Mario 3D World(Thanks Alku!) with the family that hosted us when we had to evacuate. The game is a lot of fun with four people and you should all try it.

We also went to see The Hunger Games: Catching Fire today with them, I fully recommend that movie too.

I also managed to pick up The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds using amazon gift cards from doing some surveys. This game is really good, the best Zelda game in ages. It has some amazing puzzles and feels like a classic Zelda game.

Unfortunately, upon arriving home today, we could smell burning in the car, so we opened the hood. It needs oil... but... it appears there is an oil leak somewhere too. So this is another thing we have to deal with so our car doesn't break. Ughhhhh >_<

My Father

Posted by Kohaku , in Real Life Nov 21 2013 · 151 views

I found out today that my father needs to have open heart surgery. He has a blockage and needs a bypass.

And I cried.

I just wish I could be back in Wisconsin so much and be with my mother and father for awhile. I'm going insane because there isn't anything I can do!

With the money issues we've been having it makes it more than impossible and just I feel so hopeless. :/

Transgender Day of Remembrance

Posted by Kohaku , in FABULOUS, Real Life Nov 20 2013 · 236 views
an important, message and 1 more...
Today I am posting a bonus comic from the internet. I also have a few words to share with you today thanks to my boyfriend Aleks.

Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR), occurs annually on November 20th at the conclusion of Transgender Awareness Week. It is a day to memorialize those who have been killed as a result of transphobia and anti-transgender violence. Even now, anti-transgender hatred is largely ignored and many of these murders are still unsolved. TDoR serves to raise awareness of hate crimes against trans*gender people as well as to honor the lives of those who might otherwise be forgotten. Transgender Day of Remembrance vigils offer an opportunity for trans*people and their allies to memorialize these victims of transphobia and prejudice.

Updates~

Posted by Kohaku , in Video Games, Real Life Nov 17 2013 · 108 views
pet, life, hurricane sandy
Okay, here is where things stand.

We are still getting information on contractors for our house and such, we met with one who claims that they can come very close to the amount that NY Rising wants to give out. Hopefully this will work out.

Bad news, FEMA rent money is gone and then there is our cat.

As you know our cat, Pickles had some major health issues and she had to stay overnight at the veterinarian office for three days. She was on an IV and getting shots. In her health condition most cats would have been knocked out. She is a little fighter and kept moving. She followed the treatment plan and improved very fast. It will include insulin for her diabetes and medicine for an infection she has.

Sadly she is diabetic and will have to get two daily insulin shots, the good news is cats can get better. This would be ideal as the insulin cost $200 a bottle. Which is a lot.

The cost of her stay depleted a lot of the funds we had managed to save up as it cost $3000.

Honestly though, I don't think it would have been right to give up an our pet, especially as she fought on and got better. (And she wanted to kill the vets.)

She is home and she had a little check up yesterday with them and she has continued to improve.

Needless to say this week has sucked.

In all of the chaos I wasn't able to post the story last Sunday. I will be continuing to post them and I will post one tomorrow. As a bonus though I did find another cute story that I am considering posting in addition. I am also considering testing a few new things such as a mini-series that will be posted on my blog (and eventually elsewhere) called You Should Play. It will focus on games. I already have the first one picked out and it follows the LGBT theme. I think it will be enjoyed and a pretty cool thing to do. The first game will also be free to download.

So yes a lot of bad things have happened but I am trying so hard to not give up. Even though honestly, sometimes that is all I want to do.

Can't catch a break

cat, hurricane sandy, life
We used some movie passes to see Thor on Sunday, it was a good movie go throw money at it.

That is where the good news ends, I wanted to give an update on Sandy... but sadly there hasn't been a change and NY Rising is NOT as advertised seeing as they want to make people sell their houses/land. We are currently discussing options including trying to go to the greater media. It is a frustrating situation that has kept tensions very high.

In addition to this, our cat, Pickles has had to have a veterinarian visit... and she is staying overnight for a few days. She is very sick with a kidney infection, diabetes, and a slight heart issue. She has been having issues ever since Sandy hit. Pickles used to be an outdoor cat, but as we are relocated she can't be an indoor cat. Needless to say if she had issues, we believe she was self medicating on plants that she ate. Without access to her home she has gotten sick with various issues. She used to be about 22 lbs. She is now 13 lbs.

We saw her today and she was a bit better after getting fluids, insulin, and finally eating again. Still... this adds another $3000 onto our already out of control financial issues created by Hurricane Sandy.

Yesterday I was wreck, no sleep, felt horrible and depressed. And I spent a lot of time crying... I almost lost it. Today I'm a bit better but things are still hard... we don't want to lose our baby kitty.

Anyway... I wish my blog could be happy again... but who the heck knows when that will happen.

staff, except Im not and 1 more...
Well, it has been a good run on BZP, but sadly I feel that I can no longer perform my staff duties. Ever since Sandy hit I've tried to keep focused on my life and getting that back together. And real life always comes first.

This isn't a decision I've made lightly, I've thought about this for a long time. The BZPower staff has always needed a certain level of fabulous.

I've had a lot of great experiences and I've made a lot of friends through this website, and I'm not planning on leaving any time soon even though I have left the staff.

This is a decision that also allows me to look to the future and focus on my own website.

I've updated my sidebar with some dates and shiny images... you know I never did earn that Copper Huna, I skipped that step when I was promoted ages ago. :P
(Although Now I can just cause trouble. :3)

I do want to say though that I love all of the friends that I've made on BZPower, every single one of you is awesome.

Love and Peace

Posted by Kohaku , in Real Life, Rant, FABULOUS Aug 21 2013 · 203 views

So there has been a post going around Tumblr for awhile and I think it has some things that need to be said here.

It is illegal to be gay in 76 countries.

It is illegal to be gay in 76 countries.

It is illegal to be myself in 76 countries.

First off the number 76.This comes from a UN report from 2011. If we use a bit of Google we find that the number is currently a bit higher. But the point stays the same, it is illegal for me to be myself in 76+ countries.

Many of the countries have harsh imprisonment laws among other forms of punishment such as whippings. Or worse, some countries have the death penalty.

I can be imprisoned for being myself.

I can be killed for being myself.

Even in the United States it is not safe for me to be myself, there are states such as Louisiana that have had sting operations meant to target gay adults. Not to mention there are still a lot of hate crimes. Even in New York which is a very progressive area, there were a bunch of hate crimes that cropped up earlier this year.

I will stand against homophobia and transphobia. I will stand up for equal rights. Calling someone out for being hateful and harmful is not insulting them or hurting them. A lot of their hateful words have done more harm than calling them a bigot has ever (or will ever) done to them. However by calling people out on these issues hopefully it can inspire change.

Just because someone believes something that is hurtful does not mean they will always believe it. People do have the power to change.

BZPower is going to be a safe place. In fact in order to survive I believe BZPower needs to become a safe place. So many websites and communities are not safe places on the internet. There is a lot of bulling. Bullying has led to so many people committing suicide. I don't want BZPower to be like those places, I want BZPower to be a place where everyone is accepted for who they are.

I care for the people on BZPower, many of them have helped me through so many hard times in my life. Even now I've got great friends who have helped me through things (such as Hurricane Sandy). There are so many times that I've wanted to simply give up, even recently I've been going through some huge depression regarding my situation. However, I've met so many wonderful people here and they have all impacted me in some way and it has kept me going. There have been multiple times in my life where I have been in such dark places, and I've had great friends who have pulled me out of those places.

Let's make BZPower a safe place for everyone. A place where everlasting friendships can continue to be forged. A place of love and peace.

A Bird in the Chimney

Posted by Kohaku , in Real Life Aug 18 2013 · 98 views
Bird, Hurricane Sandy
So you know how I’ve complained about the town before… well… I have some new complaints!

Unfortunately as we are trying to get the complaints and fines they have put against us I do not want to discuss too many details.

The department of sanitation refuses to come down the road to collect garbage because Verizon refuses to remove a low hanging cable wire. This resulted in code enforcement complaining at us about the garbage.

Things went from messy to messier.

In actual good news my big project is proceeding a bit, although I have hit a snag with setting some things up on that too. Hopefully I can unveil it soon though. (Or at least part of it.)

In more other news we had a bird in our chimney today. It seemed okay and we were able to open the chimney and guide it outside. The poor birdy was covered in soot, but we watched it as it flew off.
