I have more links to add in the future too...  a link to the project I've been working on for ages.

Enjoy my Miiverse and Twitter. Expect a lot of Nintendo based things on both.

What a week!

Posted by Kohaku , in Other, Lego, Real Life, Video Games Jul 21 2013 · 88 views
Hurricane Sandy, Progress, Lego
So this past week has been insane.

Let's start with saying it was HOT HOT HOT!

Good news first!
I managed to pick up my first Lego set in ages as it was 50% off at Walmart, the box was opened and the stickers and one instruction book was missing, but overall worth it. It was set #76003 Superman: Battle of Smallville. It is hard to pass up a Lego set that is discounted so much! I also picked up one of the Series 10 Minifigs for $1 on clearance. It was the last one they had and I got a nice baseball player. I almost forgot the satisfying feel of Lego as they snapped together.

Atlus just released a game that we also decided to pick up using some Amazon credit that we have, Shin Megami Tensei IV. I played a little bit of it and the second tutorial/lesson killed me. They said it would be hard and they were NOT kidding. Of course this got Aleks and myself a $30 eShop credit and we can't figure out what game to put that towards! If anyone has opinions I would love to hear them.

Earthbound. Just Earthbound.

We also had two lovely volunteer groups at our house this past week tearing things out and helping to remove parts of the condemned house. It was hard to watch, and I didn't know there was still so much stuff left. The house no longer has floors and a lot of the insulation is gone. The good news is that it was built before they started using asbestos. If it had that removing the house would cost so much more. We have made progress with getting the permits for it (and for our house). The process is more complicated because the lots are technically too small for the houses by modern codes.

You can see all of the new images right here.

That is where the good news ends. Just when we started to get progress... our car broke down. The thermostat and its housing and cables pretty much exploded. This delay has cost us more money (that we don't have) and more time. The irony here is that we had just purchased an air conditioner for Aleks' grandfather and we were taking it home. To get ourselves and the air conditioner the three miles back home it cost us about $40. Not to mention the cost of fixing the car. Here is a picture of our car on the flatbed!

Fire Bars and You

Animal Crossing, Fire Bars and 3 more...
I'm on a quest for Fire Bars in Animal Crossing New Leaf.

If you have unwanted Fire Bars that you want to donate/sell they will be used for evil purposes.

I gots the evil intentions as they say.

I also had a cool encounter with a Japaneses player on the Club Tortimer island, it led to the exchange of friend codes. This has led to the exchange of swapnotes that I can't fully understand. (If you can read Japanese and want to help out send me a message.)

Of course as many people know I am crossdressing in Animal Crossing, this led to an unpleasant exchange on the Island with a person who was clearly a bigot (They were also from Japan). I did not let this stop my enjoyment of the game! I blocked them and moved on! There are a lot of really cool people out there and I've interacted and had fun with a number of people from different countries.

There may be a language barrier, but I didn't let that stop me!

In other news Fire Bars!

Also there has been some Hurricane Sandy progress, only because we are being forced to progress (without funds) in tearing down Aleks' grandfather's house. The town is trying to move things forward and if we do things it is much cheaper than if the town does it. Like the difference between $10,000 and $50,000. FEMA is still being unhelpful and they are starting to close cases that have not been resolved. Also the insurance company on our house is still being stubborn and has offered less than 20% of the contractors' estimates for repairs.

FIRE BARS!

More Sandy Updates

Hurricane Sandy, Depressing
So, the other day we were busy over at our house. Things are still depressing over there.

The yard has some high grass that we have to somehow take care of. Did I mention previously that the lawnmower was under Aleks' grandfather's house? So we have to figure that out.

We did take a walk down the street and the good news is there is growth from plants and other grass and stuff, but still no one is back in their house. Most people have to tear down their house and start over, but the insurance company and the Town of Hempstead are pretty much useless. The town refuses to get a grant writer which would allow people access to the federal money that only towns can apply for. So yeah... :/

There are a lot of people out of their homes and sadly a lot of homes for sale in the area, it is so bad that local businesses can no longer be sustained. Our local pizza place for example had to close. They are gone! Sadly I fear that as time goes on it will get much worse.

Things are still insanely hard for us!

I'll be honest about two days after I recorded for the BZPowercast I pretty much lost it and had a mental breakdown that lasted a good two days. We are at our wits end and after losing so much we will continue to lose more.

In other news Animal Crossing has freaking kept me sane. I will post a bit more of my adventures in Animal Crossing a bit later.

Life Update

Posted by Kohaku , in Real Life, BZPower, Video Games Jun 04 2013 · 163 views
still alive
So... what has been going on in my life for the past month?

Well, we've been running around to appointments almost every day for various things. It has been very exhausting and there hasn't been much time to relax. Needless to say I haven't been on BZPower much, nor have I been able to finish something I've been meaning to get done.

Sadly, the government still sucks at getting us aid regarding Sandy. FEMA money for housing is going to run out soon... and insurance is still trying to not pay anything. Needless to say money is running out and I will be honest I am freaking terrified of what might happen.

Terrified.

In my limited free time and relaxation time I have been playing a few video games on the Wii U and 3DS, in part thanks to a birthday gift of an eShop card from a friend. That went to Animal Crossing/Fire Emblem DLC/The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons/Ages. I have also been enjoying my 2nd Super Metroid playthrough. So gaming has been a good way to relieve a bit of stress. Heck aside from a few other places on the internet it has been the only way of stress relief for us.

Hopefully I can get my big gaming related project online soon. This is something that I've had in my heart in various forms for years. Seeing it come to life has definitely helped keep me going.

I would also like to thank Jedi Master J. He is still awesome and seriously one of the best people I know.

Anyway, I'm going to hope that I can be online a bit more this month. If anything I will be posting my E3 thoughts... if I'm not playing Animal Crossing.

Can we just move to an Animal Crossing town? It seems really peaceful and stable and we could really use that.

My avatar on here and my twitter avatar have something to do with my secret project... I wonder what it is?

The past month

life
The past month has been very busy for me. I've been exhausted most of the time and have only been home in the evenings. That said there are some (very short) highlights.

I've been playing a lot of Lego City: Undercover for the Wii U... I wonder just how good that game is?

The Rayman challenges app on the Wii U is a lot of fun too.

I got to hang out in NYC with my boyfriend and an awesome friend yesterday. My legs hurt from all the walking.

Iron Man 3 is awesome go watch it.

As for life things... still nothing new on the house front and we can't fix things until the insurance company gives us money. And we can't accept the small offers they have given us as you can't fix a house with the numbers they are offering and ahhhhhh.

Free Comic book day brought us free comics.

The project Aleks and I are working on now has a mascot character and I am so excited for it.

Jedi Master J is an awesome friend and one of the coolest people ever.

Also it is my Birthday and this month feels good. This month feels good to me.

Sandy 3/10/13 Update

Posted by Kohaku , in Real Life Mar 10 2013 · 168 views
Hurricane Sandy, FEMA
Yay, it is time for a Hurricane Sandy update. Unfortunately that is where the good news pretty much ends. As you all know we’ve applied for FEMA and for insurance. Insurance is one huge argument that we are dealing with and they are only covering the house Aleks and I live in. FEMA will also only cover us for that one house.

We have nothing coming in for the house that Aleks’ grandfather lives in. This is the main reason we are raising money and have been to a handful of town meetings to get the Town of Hempstead to actually apply for federal help. Overall the town has been pretty useless. Hopefully we can get some change going on.

The main issue right now is in regards to FEMA. They pay for rental assistance which allows us to a have a roof over our head. Or at least they are supposed to be paying for that, but they are fighting and being difficult and at one point they had the gall to say we didn’t have any damage from water. The tons of photographic evidence we have disagrees with that.

Needless to say FEMA has only paid out for 1 month plus security deposit. We’ve managed to scrape by as we hope for a payout but things are getting very dangerous and close to when rent needs to be paid. We have been on the phone constantly trying to make things happen but…. Things are getting close. We are still asking for donations to help, once FEMA does come through donations will continue to be used for Aleks’ grandfather’s house.

We are still working on getting permits to actually have his house torn down. The town and various organizations we need permits from have been very difficult to work with in this regard. The town can actually make a lot of money off it if they tear it down themselves and charge us.

The ripout has been done on our house however no progress can be made for rebuilding until we can find out what money will be available to us.

Once again and continuing from earlier we are asking for donation of anything to help us. Thank you very much!

-Joseph

Mother

Posted by Kohaku , in Real Life, Video Games Feb 25 2013 · 173 views
Best person ever
So as a few people know my mother went into the hospital a few weeks back. It wasn't very good and we were all worried.

Her condition got a lot better and as of today she is in a really good nursing home.

During that period I asked a friend known as Cammiluna(she has an awesome webcomic and is an all around awesome person) to make an image that I could print out and send to my mother.

I chose a theme of the Legend of Zelda because my mother got me into Zelda. It was something we bonded over. And ages ago she could be the original game in about 2 hours. The Legend of Zelda created a special connection for us.

Here is the amazing work of art she created.

Thanks Cammiluna!

I can also report that she loved it.

House Rip Out

Posted by Kohaku , in Real Life Feb 01 2013 · 117 views
hurricane sandy, sandy update and 1 more...

Gallery for a few more images.

I’ve owed you all an update on this for awhile. We got the final ripout of our house done and… well it is freaking depressing.

We also have heaters and dehumidifiers to try and dry the place out, but with the weather how it is, they aren’t very effective. We are trying to save the subfloor, but I’m not sure if we can. We are also working on permits and so much more information about programs to get money. We also want to try to get the house raised to prevent this from happening again.

So yeah, not much can happen because it is winter, hence the lack of updates.

Once again, we ask that if you can, please donate to help us here.

12/12/12 Concert for Sandy Relief

Posted by Kohaku , in Uncategorized, Real Life Dec 12 2012 · 144 views
Hurricane Sandy
First off, we are still looking for donations as we were hit hard by Hurricane Sandy.

Second off, a ton of channels and networks are airing the concert, you can make a donation to the Robin Hood Relief Fund on the official website and you can watch the concert at the link as well.

Thirdly, do not donate to the American Red Cross. The millions that they have received has only gone to watered down stew. They have like no blankets and we know from a friend who volunteered that they actually said no to giving away a blanket. Not to mention the Red Cross takes 9% of every donation for themselves. They are in my opinion horrible. Due to the fact that we have been devastated by Hurricane Sandy we have seen how utterly useless and horrible their service has been.

Permits

Posted by Kohaku , in Real Life Dec 03 2012 · 134 views
Hurricane Sandy
So, we've been in the process of getting a permit to take down the small bungalow. It hasn't been pleasant.

It should have been an easy process, yet at each turn the town keeps throwing new things at us. The house doesn't have asbestos or any other hazardous materials yet we are being given a run around on it. >_<

The bureaucracy of it all sucks.

I would like to also take a small moment here to thank Jedi Master J. or VI. Zexion (as he is currently called) for his sheer amount of donations, it seriously does help and he has gone above and beyond and we are extremely grateful. Thank you!

As always, anyone who wishes to help donate can do so here. You can say you helped fund the tearing down of a house! (Eventually >_>)
