Sadly, today it has been announced that Nintendo Power will be shuttering its doors. It might continue on as a digital magazine, but sadly things look grim.

This is pretty sad to me as I grew up with Nintendo Power and I personally will be sad to see it go. To me, even though we live in the digital age, there is nothing like flipping the pages of a magazine. The feel of the paper is fabulous and fantastic.

Update 11:30 AM EST 8/22/12:

A statement provided by Nintendo reads:

“Nintendo can confirm that Future US will end the production of Nintendo Power magazine with the last issue slated for December 2012.”

Aww, that's a shame. I remember my friend got the magazine and I would check a few things out every now and then. I never did get the magazine myself (I never was a real magazine person), but it did have some pretty cool stuff in there (mainly the Zelda series information was what I was interested in. I remember them publishing artwork for Twilight Princess well before it was released and I thought it was so weird to see Link with different facial expressions XD).

Though, I do agree; I very much prefer print over digital when it comes to reading. Less strain on the eyes and not to mention it's easier to peek ahead (guilty) or find a certain page you're looking for (this came in handy more for reports... You know, I miss reports, strange as it may sound. XD)

And updated/officially confirmed.

I hope it can continue in a digital format. Although... I'm wondering what will happen to my subscription.

December 2012. Well, there's a couple reasons for the whole Mayan thing now. =P

However, I think I might be able to predict the cover story...

Megaman's 25th anniversary, maybe? With a look back on the history of the series, since it's anniversary is in December as well? Maybe half that, half a reflection on Nintendo Power's run?

Celebrating a Capcom property that's been pretty much stabbed and beaten to death by Capcom itself in their final issue? I find that kind of unlikely. It'll be more updates on Wii U & 3DS, and if NP has any sense at all a look back through the years.

I'm hoping for a gallery of all their covers ever, but that'll never happen.
