Windows Vista

Posted by Engineer Alexandra Humva , Jul 14 2012 · 98 views

It's a scourge upon this world that must be removed.

My mom's tower computer has four gigs of RAM, quad core 2.5 gigahertz. Vista still makes Minecraft run slow.

My mom's laptop has, like, two gigs of RAM and a dual core 1.8 gigahertz, Windows 7. Minecraft doesn't run great on it, but it works fine.

Meh, Vista works fine for me, generally being faster than the computers with Windows XP that I use.

You probably have one of the more recent service packs, they help the speed a bit.

Vista and 7 are pretty bad in my book. I like XP or Ubuntu as my OSs'.

Windows 7 is pretty cool actually, Vista is just obeying the every other Windows release rule. My future comppy will dual boot W7 and Linux Mint.

You didn't have XP before this? 0_o I kinda pity you, actually. =P Would never want to go back to 2000; and I technically don't really want to go back to XP from 7, but this laptop can't feasibly run 7(Likely period, if it even did, it'd be slow and unusable, likely. =P). It's faster than I thought, but likely not fast enough. =P

Um no, my desktop is running XP right now xD

XP is amazing, but it can't handle past like 2 or 4 gig of RAM because it's 32bit, unless you have XP pro.

What graphics processing units do both computers have? Those could make a huge difference in running video games.

Vista wasn't the worst thing ever, it was just missing a lot of refinement (which 7 gave, 7 is a lot of the same guts as vista). XP is super outdated and I don't understand why anyone thinks it works great as a modern operating system. I had to use it at my past internship and wanted to drop kick that computer many times because it was a nightmare to go to after using 7.

7 is a great operating system, incredibly stable and with a number of great little features (ie. snap and toolbar pinning). I'm looking forward to 8 regardless of the internet's sudden fondness of this "every other" rule. I mean, once you get past the whole start screen vs start button deal it's a logical evolution of 7. The desktop isn't handicapped like everyone on the internet is screaming, you simply have a different way of view the start menu (and I'm sure there will be plenty of tools to give you a traditional start menu should you crave that). In fact, the desktop actually has a number of improvements (better taskmanager, file manager, file transfer utilities, built in virtualization tools, push notifications, etc...).

Chols~Laptop has some integrated Intel graphics, same as the desktop. I think it stands to reason that the laptop's integrated graphics are worse then the desktop's.

Than~That's a fair point, which is probably why the later service packs helped. I'd update the desktop, but alas, there's a few minor difficulties that make people around me weary of doing it again. I'd just prefer that Microsoft ships their products refined.

I don't hate W8, though I'm not finding myself falling for it. It's, erm, just meh IMO. That, and I'll probably (hopefully) have my new rig before it comes out, so I'll of gotten W7 and probably won't upgrade until, like, W9 or W10 xD

Linux Mint? Hipster :P

I'm dual-booting Ubuntu and Windows 8, my netbook is trual-booting Ubuntu, Windows 7, and Chrome OS, but I'm going to replace Windows 7 with Android 4.1 ASAP.

Vista wasn't as bad as everyone says it was. Its main problem was that it happened before Microsoft realised that the goal is not to make every OS take full use of the system resources so they can add all the bells and whistles, but to scale it back and let it run on everything. This is why 7 is faster - they optimised, and scaled it back.

WARNING:

The following blog contains excessive rambling on the world and extremely poor paragraphing. If you are easily offended or turned off by these two things, leaving now would be a good idea.

This blog is written by Alex Humva, penname of some random teenager named Alex Censored. He writes stories, writes rants, writes screenplays, plays games, makes games, has a terrible work ethic, and is generally sarcastic. He believes in a Judao-Christian god, but most other people who do too give him a glare because of his weird beliefs, possibly because he's somehow bi at the same time. He's an utter equalist who feels that any discrimination amongst humans for things they were born with is wrong. He doesn't care about xenos though, let them all burn.

He's also an aspiring engineer who hopes to get a scholarship at his local big engineering college and one day help humanity. More likely he'll be a pencil pusher in a basement somewhere, but he's a bloody minded optimist.

Because of his peculiar personality and beliefs, he gets into fights often, though they usually end when he wakes up the next morning and doesn't feel motivated anymore.
