So now that things have calmed down a bit here in the blogs, let's post a "catch everyone up" on what happened with me over the downtime.
And since I took a lot of pictures at these things, I'm going to do this with as little text as possible, and just throw you guys some photos.
I went out of town a lot. I spent a total of around six weeks outside of Tulsa while the board was off-line. It was off-line for five and a half months, so that's like, somewhere in the neighbourhood of twenty percent of the downtime I spent traveling. No regrets!
June 26- July: 4 Brickfiesta 2011; Austin, Texas
(As per usual, all photos link to their own page)
Towards the end of June, Nukaya (Maddison) made it down to Tulsa, where we hung out for a few days, and then drove down to OKC to meet with some friends of mine for dinner and whatnot. Then we met up with Innerrayg (Ray)! The three of us drove down to Austin for Brickfiesta, where we picked up Black Six (Andrew) from the aiport. We got a tour of Rooster Teeth studios, the guys who make Red vs Blue, which I am informed is super awesome. They gave us free season 6/7 DVDs that they autographed, so as soon as I have some free time, I'll need to watch seasons 1-5 so I can use my DVDs. They were super awesome guys, and let us watch their new video before they uploaded it. It was great! We met with Emzee (Adrian) later that day, got all our registration stuff picked up from the Fiesta desk, we got our (mostly my) MOCs set up, and we spent the weekend hanging out, going to cool meetings, we met the new Community Coordinator (the old Steve Witt job), we hung out with some AFOLS like Nannan and Legohaulic. It was cool going to a much much much smaller convention. Maddison and I toured the Texas Capital and parts of the UT campus as well. We got some great photos!
August 2- 12; Brickfair 2011; NoVA, DC
In August, Ray met me in Tulsa, and we hopped on the always reliable Greyhound for our annual trek to Brickfair! We met up with Maddison in St Louis, where her route and our route combined into one (much to Ray's disappointment, because this meant he had to sit by himself/next to strangers ont he bus). We met up with the usual Brickfair gang, people like McSmeag (Andrew2), Makaru (Bryan, ToM Dracone (Yanni!), Nuju Metru (Aaron), Speaknspell (STEVE WITT!), Levahklah (Hanni I can never spell your BZPname), Friar Tuck (Josh1), Toromaga (Josh2), Chocofrogs (Ben), Sisen (Jon), xccj (Jason), Spink (Josh3), Toa Velox (Alex), ToaLhikanHordika (Vance), EmperorWhenua (Rene), Vezok's Friend (Corvin), and more. Brickeens was there!! We got to meet Steve Witt's wife! Megan is a delightful woman! Maddison and I got dessert with the two of them on fancy staff dinner night, and it was very very fun. I am looking forward to the next time we hang out with them! The MOCs were great, and Bionicle had a fantastic showing. Thanks for everyone who sent stuff in!
After Brickfair, some of us stuck around at Andrew2's apartment, and we toured the Smithsonian Natural History Museum. That place is kicking. Like wow. I pretty much dragged everyone there with me. Maddison and I made rainbow cake one night, and it was so pretty and delicious, even though we got impatient and frosted it and put it together before it had cooled properly and it broke. It was the Andrews' birthday cake! It was delicious. And beautiful! We celebrated birthdays and an anniversary that week. It was very cool. Bryan's mom took us out for seafood at an amazing restaurant. So good. And she was such a gracious woman! We did not expect her to do that. (Bryan, continuously thank your mother for me, please?)
August 26- 31: Maddison's Birthday; Portland, Oregon
I took a bus up to Portland for Maddison's 21st birthday. It was great! We went to a soapbox derby race she participated in, hung out with her friends, went out, watched Happy Endings, went to the beach, made a set review, and had a really good time. It was a short trip, but Portland is always beautiful, and we spent it well.
October 1- 16: La Grande, Oregon
Anyways, I actually took another trip to Oregon just this October too. I was actually there when the board came back online, and so for two days of the new forums, I was on a Greyhound back to Tulsa. That was also a good trip, and I'll probably post some photos from it once I've edited them. We took lots of sports photos, because Maddison is the official sports photographer for Eastern Oregon University (for all sports outside of football [because they hired one of the player's mom, who is a fauxtographer]). So we had to go to a few volleyball games, so I took some shots too, because I had a camera, and court access, so why not? It was a lot of fun! You should ask her to show you some of her photos she's taken, some of them are breathtakingly awesome. There's a reason they hired her!
