Help

Okay, there will be a news article sometime soon with the details for how to send in MOCs for BricksCascade (and by extension, any MOCs sent in for Cascade will be automatically sent to Brickfair as well, as I'm the coordinator for both conventions, and so for just one shipment of MOCs, your stuff can hit both coasts). ALSO THERE WILL BE PROTOTYPES FOR ANYONE WHO SENDS STUFF IN.

BUT, that's not what I'm here for right now.

One of the great things about BIONICLE and BZPower has always been the fan input. Specifically the creative outlet output. Which is why I want you guys to send in MOCs and artwork. I want to show off what the community can do, and the BIONICLE community has always been better about that than any other community in the overall LEGO community. So please, send stuff in, and let's show more AFOLs that BIONICLE fans are awesome. And that they should fear how awesome we are.

BricksCascade doesn't think we'll have a large showing, which may or may not be fair, as they say that BrickCon doesn't usually have a large outpouring of BIONICLE stuff either.

But Brickfair does.

And so I want to show the Cascade guys wrong. I want us to have the most amazing display. Full of awesome stuff from our member base.

And to that end, there will be trophies, and though they're not super keen on it, I've got the leeway in my theme to dictate how things will be done as I see fit, and so -all- MOCs sent into BricksCascade will be eligible for one of three trophies. I am also taking myself out of the running, so you won't lose to me by default (if you were actually worried about that? IDK if anyone was or anything, I'm just saying). There will be three categories to win a trophy in, like I said.

But here's where the eponymous "help" comes in.

Category one will be the usual (and only one at Brickfair) "Best BIONICLE" trophy.

The other two? I don't know.

So tell me, what else should we do for trophies? Best little MOC? Best big MOC? Best creature? Best humanoid? Best use of parts? Best fusion of system/BIONICLE?

Let's crowdsource this thing. Let's do what this community does best, and let's get some community involvement in the theme we all know and love. Let's make this year's convention season a smashing hit for BIONICLE.

So, in this entry, leave me trophy ideas. I'll pick from among the ideas listed.

And all trophies will be built by me as well. So they'll be awesome. I've already got the "Best BIONICLE" trophy idea mapped out in my head (and as soon as I have real parts again, I'll build it and show it so you guys know what you'd be competing for if you mail stuff to me).

So, yay us!

Now I actually want to build something for this...

Anyways, best use of parts would be one, if you could clarify the difference between that and best BIONICLE. Other trophy would probably be fusion.

Best MOC based on a real-world item

Best MOC based on a license (movie/TV/book)

Also, I'll totally hook up people who send things in with prototypes.

Best BIONICLE is going to be for the overall best, most impressive, looks the coolest MOC. Best parts usage would be for the MOC that, maybe isn't the best looking, but uses its parts most creatively.

Bah, BrickCon has a ton of Bionicle MOCs, it's just only a few people bring in a lot (Breanne, Conner, ext). :P

Anyway, I'm planning on bringing a TON of Bionicle MOCs, so just make sure there's room for me. :P

As for trophies, I'm totally behind Best Use of a Piece. I already sent you my trophy build ideas. ;)

Mkay, I'm a bit of a noob to the whole sending things in for conventions, but the Prototypes thing has me intrigued. :P

Is there like, a standard so to speak for MoCs? Cause i'm only good at inika Mods but i'd like to think i use what I have fairly well. Can it be an Inika moderator or do we have to have something more custom?

Do I have to build something new for this or can I send in a previously created MOC? Also where would I send it to and how many weeks before it returns?

Will try to do this for once... always wanted to.

You will have a 10 foot by 5 foot model to display. You will officially have probably the largest MOC of the show to display.

And no, it's not going with you to BrickFair. I'll be bringing it myself.

You're welcome.

Trophy ideas are easy enough to come up with, though I recommend if you want to avoid the norm, go look at what BrickCon 2010 did with their award system.

Alternatively, here's a trophy idea I think would work perfectly:

Best Use of Bionicle Collectible elements (Kanohi, Krana, Kanoka, etc.)

Now that would bring some attention to the table.

First off, if you're actually making trophies for these, then woot! I've been wanting that to be a thing for a few years (ever since seeing the uniform trophies at BrickFair compared to the creative, by-theme trophies at BrickFest 06).

Second, "best (or rather, most creative) use of piece(s)" sound like a good one. Basically, whatever makes someone say "NPU". As for the other one, maybe a best vehicle? Best battle scene (send in two MOCs in one battle label)? One that gets the most fingers pointed at by visitors? (In all seriousness, vehicle encouragement wouldn't be bad. I also like the fusion idea, where 40-70% of the MOC has to be System?)

No you don't. You can send MOCs you've had laying around for ten years. Totes cool! Also, I'll have an address for you guys in a few weeks.

It can be whatever, there is no standard! The only standard is "build a MOC, send it in!"

Address soon! And it'd need to be there right before June, and if you want it to go to Brickfair too, it'll get back to you at the end of August, since Brickfair is in August. If I make it to BrickFiesta again this year, it'll be there too.

The awards at BrickCon 2010 were not a bad idea, though (no offense to anyone), I plan on building way cooler looking trophies. Also, if you're building a giant system Mata Nui Island, I'm not sure it'll belong in the BIONICLE section versus the art and mosaics section. We'll have to work it out.

I am actually making trophies for these! I'm excited (though I actually like the uniform trophies at Brickfair, and am more inclined to say I wish all the other conventions would adopt that strategy as well, I think it looks more professional).

Hey, I'm not the one making the claim that BrickCon has a negligent BIONICLE section, that is what I was told by the Cascade guy, who has attended every BrickCon too. And yeah, your trophy ideas led me to ask for everyone's participation too! See what everyone can come up with, because I had too many ideas and they'd like us to keep it at around three.

Ah, sweet. I apologize for the multiple comments BTW - I was on my iPod and it did not inform me of the "must be approved" thing so I thought it was glitchin'. :P

Anyway, as soon as I get an address I'll pick a few to send out.

I managed to put a system-built Nuva Cube into the Bionicle table at BrickCon, and nobody complained. I'm pretty sure the fact we're bringing an island of Mata Nui, which is Bionicle THEMED at least, is safe. Nobody told me you couldn't put another system with another series, otherwise we wouldn't be able to place technic pieces in Space, or beautiful island and water scenes in Pirates.

Haha, no sweat on the multiples, I can take care of those. And awesome! I can't wait to see what people send in!

As long as there's room. :P
