How To Use Bsbackup

I've gotten several PMs asking me how this works. So here's a (short) tutorial.

url.jpg

That's the URL that shows up in the navigation bar on your browser. The 'm=____' is the username of the Brickshelf account.

bsb.jpg

This is part of BSBackup. You put the username for the account into the 'm=' field, and push 'get by user'. Then it starts downloading.

If you want just a folder from BS, and not the entire user's gallery...

That's the URL that shows up in the navigation bar on your browser. The 'f=____' is the folder designation of the particular folder you're looking at.

bsb2.jpg

This is part of BSBackup. You put the folder ID into the 'f=' field, and push 'get by ID'. Then it starts downloading.

It may crash on you. If it does, start it back up. It won't re-download images it already downloaded. It works best later at night.

If you are having crashing problems...

See the checkbox? Check it. It causes the program to pause between each download, reducing BS bandwidth. This will cause the program to crash less during peak hours. You can set the 'seconds' box to whatever number you so choose.

The default directory for the downloaded files will be in the BSBackup folder on your desktop, more than likely. It downloads them into a folder labeled 'gallery' or 'galleries'. They will be in folders marked by the BS username. Inside the folder will be the folders in the EXACT SAME order as they appear on Brickshelf. The same files in the same folders.

It's a fantastic program.

If it's so great, why won't it download any farther past your Hoursemen when I try it? :P

It is prone to crashing if you use it during peak user hours. It also won't download past one page of folders, so you have to click 'next', and go to the next page, and copy that 'm=' into the program. It will, however, download multiple pages of files at one time. I don't know why it won't do it if you have folders on the next page, but eh, whatever.

I've used it to download almost twenty galleries. It works if you're patient with it.

I managed to close it,but Whenever I try to use the user-ID I get a pop-up reading "already connected."Does this mean you can't have the brickshelfaccount open if your trying to download it?

EDIT:apperently you cannot have the account open in your browser if you want to back it up.Otherwise its seems to be working. Thanks DV.

No, it means BSB is already running. Try closing the program, opening it back up, and trying again. If the problem persists, try hitting 'cance', waiting for it to actually cancel, and then trying again. If it keeps happening, delete the program, and re-download it.

You can have the account open all day long during the download, I know, because I like to surf the gallery I'm downloading as I download it. It worked fine.

It won't download non-public folders, and unfortunatly my most important folders are non-public at the momment :( ...

This is very true. Hopefully, even with the site closing, Kevin will still moderate and 'publicify' the not-public folders during this two weeks of operation.

We'll,it only wanted to work as soon as I close schizo's account. So I'll just keep doing it this way.

EDIT:Could you give the link to this "Kitsunenomen" you mentioned in the previous entry?I can't find him using that name on brickshelf.

Funny, it downloads all the pages for me.

It'll download all the pages if there's only files past page one. But if there are folders on page two, it won't.

At least, it wouldn't with me.

EDIT: And now it will. Odd.
