Review Of Lego Star Wars Iii Demo For Xbox 360

Just one statement, really:

WHY MUST I WAIT A WHOLE MONTH FOR THIS?!

That's really it.

I love the graphics upgrade, the change over with both the lightsaber change, and the gameplay mechanic for vehicle fights. I -love- the fact we can now land them and exit our ship and fight droids. I dunno about what I think will be a real-time strategy mode, but hey, it can't be all too bad right?

Force powers are MUCH better. I love the fact it works like the LEGO Harry Potter Wingadium Leviosa power, in that we can lift and move in multiple axes. The fact they also added The Force Unleashed-inspired force push is awesome, and lightsaber toss is a much welcome addition, especially after seeing it in LEGO Batman.

Oh wow, C-3PO finally has a purpose : O He's the archeologist/Hermione of Star Wars now, and in a much simpler method than the 3x3 box and the 2x2 box we had last. Now it's like Simon Says, only instead of more challenges, you get opened doors. Awesome.

I know this whole entry is really spoiler-laced as far as what to expect, especially if you planned to try the Demo. Trust me, this only touches base on SOME of what to expect in it.

I'm sold on the game, personally.

Really? I played a bit and it felt a bit 'meh'. It doesn't really do that much new, and lacks the iconic-ness of the Original Trilogy game which is half of the appeal, for me.

I'll hold out for Pirates of the Caribbean, which will no doubt have many of the same 'upgrades' that this game has.

Having played most of every major release for LEGO games since LEGO Star Wars 1 for PC, I can say that this one is a much improved version of gaming, especially if you have a friend or sibling to play with.

Split-screen gameplay was the best thing they developed in a long time. Included to that is my favorite addition to the game, allowing someone to literally go to one area, and the other characters go to the other. In actuality for my case, my sister (who plays a lot of LEGO games with me on the 360) played one level, while I was on the other side doing tasks myself.

I have spoiler alerted this scene for those who do not wish to know:

In the scene where Padmé is rescued by the Jedi, the scene split off altogether. My sister and I were seperated by a wall, and we went down seperate corridors, having to solve a puzzle on each side for the other to progress. It was really awesome to have to fight a vulture droid on my own after it just smashed out the glass on my sister's side, and then resealing the leak for her to progress.

Also, I seriously do think the space combat has been improved, especially with no level jumps, instead we get a gameplay based on a single level (at least this one is) with multiple battle areas. Included to that is the Jedi Starfighter's ability to warp jump via a docking ring. I believe it's possible the Y-Wing could also do this, but I didn't test it.

Overall, I highly recommend, if you have a 360 or a PS3, trying this demo at least once with an open mind. Locking yourself into thinking "It's just another LEGO game" is not accurate. And no, I'm not being paid for these comments :P

I'd read about a number of features and must say I am stoked. While LEGO Indy 2 got some features done right, it fell way too short for me in the actual gameplay and level design departments. I'm not about to go rushing out for LEGO PotC, but Star Wars III definitely has my attention.
