Streamlining Day Run

Parugi

Two days late. Oh well.

Anyway, as I said in my last entry, I need to modify and streamline Day Run's opening post for the RPG contest next month. Frankly, it's a bit cluttered right now, and I'm not entirely sure that some of the stuff still in it needs to be there. At the moment, I'm planning on shortening some of the longer sections and updating information with the Factions section to be more up to date, but aside from that, I'm not sure what all I should modify.

So, that in mind, I'm looking for peoples' suggestions on what sections/rules/other things need to be edited. As well, I want to ask for your opinions -- if you played the game or observed it to a point where you have a legitimate gripe with the way I've run things, I would like to know what you all think I could do better as Day Run's GM if it comes back. Basically, how can I improve the game and the way I run it?

Thanks in advance. =)

It is my belief that even co-GMs' PCs should not be as powerful as literal-god-empowered NPCs that are core components of the primary GM's plot. You are a player, and as such that applies even more.

So no. :P

Curses!

Although it would be interesting to see a normal player obtain godlike status to battle it out with the other Titans, becoming one of them in the process. Of course then he'd probably have to die, otherwise things might get unfair. Like that player sneazes and everyone else dies on accident.

Still, it'd be interesting to head into a continued season of an RPG with someone owning a god. Although I think I know why it's never happened. :P

I believe that happened with Alan in Night Ride... which is also why it's never happening again, at least not without very very very specific instructions and restrictions from me; otherwise it's going to be done in a way that it wasn't supposed to. Again. :P

I liked the way Day Run was run. I had a very sandbox rpg feel to me at least and it allows creativity unlike some other rpgs. *glares at bzprpg* -personal opinion-

So please don't add weakness fields and other things that make the game feel burdened. People should be able to figure out a character or its writer's weakness without it.

And I must say any character with super powers is overpowered. All that matters is the writer. A Matoran could easily overpower a Makuta if the writer of the Matoran was more clever than the Makuta's writer.

So are positions for staff available? :P

Thank you for the thoughts; they are appreciated! :D

@Weaknesses: Tbh that was something I was considering for the next contest, primarily because I was getting a bit tired with the extremely constant circular battling and refusal by certain people to lose regardless of who they were fighting.

Then again, the BZPRPG weaknesses haven't exactly made things any easier, so one could argue against the effectiveness of actually requiring that information. It feels like no matter what you do, people are always going to want to make their characters out as the protagonist of the story -- which, obviously, it's impossible to be such in an RPG -- and refuse to lose a lot of time as a result.

But who knows? Anyone else have an opinion on this subject? It's actually one of the things I had meant to ask about in the first post of this entry; perhaps I should edit it later.

@Combat: This is true... unless the Makuta pulls the "I'm a Makuta so I win" card. :P

@Staff: Nope, sorry. :P Tbh, the staff section is going out the window, because by now there's no point in recruiting anyone else as a staff member -- so much has happened and the planned plot is so complicated that very few people would be able to understand it if I just flat out told it to them.

Not to mention, I've had a lot of bad luck with GMs lately, mainly in ROTR, so I'm not terribly keen on the idea of working with anyone on that level for the moment. :)

I think weaknesses are useful to know, at least as the GM, to be able to end a fight that otherwise would go on to long or something of the like.

And Matoran beating a Makuta? Maybe if Flyyn made the Matoran... :P

Indeed. Especially for people who have a tendency to abuse their abilities.

Maybe I ought to just make everyone PM me a legitimate weakness for their character? That way I can have a semi-official document of sorts to use when I see people getting out of line. :3

But I was being serious. I never can seem to express my opinion in ways others can understand. x_x

But only Vailian has cards. :P

Oh and no one has to worry about keeping my characters in check. I over react too easily and end up making my characters either lose or die before they can even win a fight.

And come on. You don't need to ask what Toa of light and shadows weaknesses are. Those are simple to figure out. :P

It's a good point, though; against an unevolved Makuta, which are around in DR, a Matoran could theoretically win. It's just that they would have to be like, CJ or EW or Lloyd-level in terms of skill, or the Makuta would have to be extremely weak. Still possible, just very unlikely, as you said. :P

XD

This is true. :P

And Parugi, I was about to give Laorus a piece of story when you sudden got all busy with life and such. :P

And let me tell you that I know understand why RPGs need consecutive seasons. I had no clue revealing things took so long.

Blade: Missing stuff shouldn't be a problem. To be honest, I've only really paid attention to my own character, so I have absolutely no idea what most of the other things that are going on are about. :P

Kal: soz. Now you know how us GMs feel... :P I'll post in a minute. =)

Indeed. So now you understand why a quick wrap-up of DR would have been impossible? :P
