Three Things

Posted by Pahrak #0579 , Nov 30 2013 · 123 views

1. There are now subs of the Steins;Gate movie.  I can't link it on BZP because of reasons, and you may be better off waiting until there are higher-quality subs, but just so you know, they exist.  I cried a little.

2. I put up a new short story: Opportunity for Ambition.  It's a part of my "Heretic Stories" project and focuses on Tehutti's character, and how I want to represent him.  I was originally prompted to do this by the FFFC a while back (the same one I used to enter stories focused on Ehrye and Nuhrii), but I didn't get it done in time, and now that it's actually finished it's too long anyway.  Mavrah's also very important--he just kinda showed up and ended up taking the job...

3. While I don't have an intended limit on the number of Heretic Stories I'll produce, I want to have at least one for each Matoran.  They're not perfect, but I have something for Ahkmou, Vhisola, Ehrye, Nuhrii, and now Tehutti...but I can't think of anything for Orkahm.  All I'm getting is that he's a real boring guy, and I don't know how to write a story about that.  I'll keep thinking, but if anyone has any ideas/suggestions, they'd be much appreciated. :P

Regarding Bioni-Lords

Posted by Pahrak #0579 , Nov 29 2013 · 145 views

I know this doesn’t affect many of you, but I’m gonna ramble a bit anyway, so please forgive me.

A quick check of the topic will reveal that Bioni-Lords Book 3: Kako has not been updated in months now.  I can also confirm that, in that time, I have done little to no writing for the story, and I feel like I should address this.  As I’ve mentioned in a previous entry, I got to thinking more about Bioni-Lords and how I was handling, well…everything…and I became extremely frustrated with it.  Frustration led to a lack of motivation, which was only worsened by a tighter schedule between school and work and a complete lack of motivation to do anything at all.  I kept trying, kept failing, kept getting more frustrated as I thought about it, and, to be honest, I’m just not convinced Bioni-Lords is worth it.  The most logical thing to do is put an end to it.

That being said…I’m sentimental.

My next thought was to declare an “indefinite hiatus”, which is basically the same thing.  I typed up a farewell entry and began working on another entry detailing all the plans I had for the rest of Book 3, but as I did so…well, I got invested.  I couldn’t quite bring myself to end Bioni-Lords, but I need to seriously improve it if it’s going to stay.

As I mentioned in the blog entry where I first went on about my frustrations, one of my worst ideas was to give tragic ends to several characters for completely stupid reasons.  I do not want this to happen.  I wondered if maybe working in some weird extra twist would be better, but it made things more confusing, and there were still massive underlying issues.  So to karz with it.  I already have The Retcon established, so I’ll just expand that to include a reason for why these characters aren’t present in Books 1 and 2.  That should make it at least less confusing.  Fixing these issues is more important than sticking with a canon I decided on when I was an uninformed preteen, you know?

Of course, I still want it to be sad, so there will still be some death.  Don’t let your guard down yet, mwa-ha-ha…

Although the eventual Book 4 is still looking like a mess but that’s something I can address later okay moving on.

I will get back to writing Bioni-Lords.  I still have motivation/time concerns, but I’m going to deal with those best I can and get you the next chapter as soon as I can. (That being said, I don’t feel confident with giving a release date, ahaha…)

Time to get to work…

Pahrak's PokéRecords: Fairy

Posted by Pahrak #0579 , Nov 28 2013 · 129 views

Ah, yes, Fairy...well, the thing is...I haven't actually trained any Fairy types yet.  It turns out I haven't even trained any Pokemon that were later retconned to Fairy type.  This bothers me.

I definitely will train Fairy types in the future, not just so I can have an awesome counter for Dragons, but also because I want to try out several of them.  Mega Gardevoir looks pretty cool, and Diantha did give me one in Y, so I have that on stand-by.  I also kind of like Carbink and Klefki, so I've been debating trying them out.  I keep flip-flopping on Sylveon, though...

Well, those are all the major Pokemon I've put effort into training thus far.  The list will most certainly grow, as I have no intention of quitting my Pokemon journey...so, now I sit and wait for Z.  Or...XX and XY...or whatever they're going to do next.

Pahrak's PokéRecords: Ghost

-Giratina ("Vezon")
-Spiritomb
-Chandelure ("Lumiere")
-Golurk ("Ralph")
-Aegislash ("Ultima")

I actually really, really like the Ghost type.  The weird thing is, I haven't really trained all that many Ghost Pokemon...still, the ones that I have trained have been among the best Pokemon on their respective teams.  We've got a legendary, a Pokemon (previously) without a weakness, a chandelier with massive special attack, a golem that can tear Dragons apart with its bare fists, and a haunted sword and shield with several stats through the roof.  I definitely want to train more Ghost types, and there is absolutely no way I can pick a favorite among all these awesome Pokemon.

Last but certainly not least, the newcomer: Fairy type.  Coming up next!

Pahrak's PokéRecords: Ice

-Lapras ("Lap")
-Kyurem (White)
-Aurorus ("Celsius")

My relationship with Ice is weird.  I like the Ice type, but I don't really like a whole lot of Ice Pokemon enough to try them out.  You may notice that of the three Pokemon listed above, two of them are given to you for free and the other is a mascot.  That's how little I feel like going out of my way for Ice types. :P Still, I want to change that and train more Ice types.  Avalugg looks pretty cool, and I want to give a chance to Abomasnow and even Vanilluxe.  Maybe Cryogonal?  I've also kind of wanted to train a Cloyster for a while.  But that's something to be decided later.  As for my current favorite...well, I think I would have to go with Aurorus.  Refrigerate combined with Hyper Beam makes for one heck of a Pokemon.

Ghost and Fairy are tied for rarest type, so I'll do Ghost next and save Fairy for last.

Unexpected

Posted by Pahrak #0579 , Nov 25 2013 · 145 views

I'm taking a Fiction Writing class this semester--we all write stories, distribute them, and then workshop them each in class.  Today we went over my latest story, and when we were done talking about it, everyone handed back their copies with comments written in the margins.  As I was going over these, I noticed that one classmate came up with a name for the canon ship in this story and confessed to fangirling a little.

This is the greatest compliment my writing has ever been given like I am on the brink of tears from how meaningful this is and I don't know how to handle it

So I guess I'm doing something right??  I definitely wish to pursue this idea now.

Pahrak's PokéRecords: Dragon

-Dialga ("Vahi")
-Garchomp ("Chomper", "Takea")
-Giratina ("Vezon")
-Zekrom
-Kyurem (White)

Dragon.  The type everyone wants to use and no one wants to fight.  Well less so now that we have Fairy type.  I definitely like having a Dragon on my team, but since you usually need to go out of your way to acquire one (or they don't show up until late in the game when you already have a team together), most of the Dragons I've used are mascots, who have had spots reserved for them.  The only real exception is Garchomp, since Garchomp is completely awesome.  There's also the issue of Dragon not being super-effective against anything aside from Dragon, but dual typing helps cope with that, right?  Dragon is definitely a type I want to get more use out of in the future.  Though it could be a little more difficult to do so now that they have a new weakness.

Getting close to the end.  Ice is next.

Pahrak's PokéRecords: Steel

-Lucario ("Aki", "Akamai")
-Bronzong ("Bronz")
-Dialga ("Vahi")
-Empoleon ("Kowalski")
-Genesect
-Bisharp ("Muramasa")
-Aegislash ("Ultima")

I've had mixed experience with Steel.  Sometimes, despite its many resistances, one of my Steel Pokemon just won't have a talent for lasting very long in battle.  But other times they're just plain awesome.  I like Steel as a type overall, and I definitely hope to use more of it--especially now that it has a type advantage over Fairy to add to its usefulness.  Picking a favorite is rather difficult, but I am absolutely loving my Aegislash right now...

Next up is Dragon.

Pahrak's PokéRecords: Dark

-Scrafty
-Spiritomb
-Umbreon ("Umbra")
-Bisharp ("Muramasa")
-Greninja ("Gali")
-Yveltal

I actually rather like the Dark type.  It frustrates me that it's still the only type that doesn't have a Gym. (They must have noticed this by now, especially when they were arranging the World Championship in Black 2/White 2, so I have to believe that this is on purpose.) Most of these Pokemon were really great (with exception(s)), and Scrafty in particular was a big surprise--I never would have caught one if it hadn't been recommended, but it became a real star on my White team.  I'm also glad I got to use Spiritomb before they gave it a weakness (which I can't help but find a little disappointing...).  I don't know that I can pick a favorite, but since I'm just coming off of playing Y, my memories of training Gali the Greninja from a little Froakie are particularly fresh in my mind.

Coming up next: Steel.

Pahrak's PokéRecords: Electric

-Ampharos ("Reeper", no nickname)
-Raichu ("Pika", "Minnie")
-Luxray ("Shin")
-Zekrom

Hm, not a whole lot of diversity amongst my Electric types, huh?  Yes, I trained some Pikachu.  You're darn right I evolved them!  It's a fun type to have, although sometimes it can be difficult keeping them alive in battle.  If I had to pick a favorite...well, I might actually go with Luxray.  My Platinum Luxray is really, really awesome.  I'm sure I'll train more Electric types in the future, but I'm not really sure who or when...

Dark will be next.
