Obligatory Pokemon X and Y Entry

Pahrak Model ZX

X and Y? As in "nintendo Y u make gen vi?"

Actually, I'm guessing there's more to the name. The third version will probably be Pokemon Z, because X, Y, and Z are the names of axes in a three-dimensional graph, and these are the first main Pokemon games in 3D.

That's right. There's math in your Pokemon now.

Before the "y no gen 3 remakes" posts start: we needed Gen I and II remade in order to obtain a lot of those Pokemon, because we couldn't transfer them into Gen III. But our Gen III Pokemon can be transfered to Gen IV, then to Gen V, so there was no point in making remakes in Gen V. Plus, the starters and mascots were available throughout Gen IV and V, so there's that.

Well, the graphics do look nice. Peronsally not a graphics fan, but I'll go along with this shift with only a tiny grudge.

Player characters: the guy looks like Black and the girl looks like Leaf.

Not super-impressed with the starters. We've had Water frogs before, and we've had Fire foxes before. (Please, please don't let this Fire starter evole into another Fire/Fighting type!) The Grass starter...is that a Patrat with mold on its back? Meh, hoping the final forms will be more impressive.

I'm assuming those Pokemon at the end of the trailer are the new mascots. The black and red bird that looks like the letter Y is probably a Flying type, and maybe Dark. As for the blue Sawsbuck with swords for legs and Christmas lights on its antlers, I'm thinking Steel, and maybe Grass. Huh, we may actually go a Generation without a Dragon mascot...

Too soon for me to pick a version, so I look forward to more news. I am impressed that Nintendo is releasing them worldwide in October--I'm all for not having to wait for a dub. I'm also wondering if this region will be based on another place in the States, and if so, if Isshu/Unova will be revisitable. Plus, sort of hoping we finally get a Dark type Gym Leader, and really hoping that story will be even more important than in Gen V. I was dreading the possibility of a Generation VI, but I suppose I should try to judge these games fairly now that they're here. Here's to hoping they're not as stingy with information as they were with Black 2 and White 2!

UPDATE: We now have names for the mascots! The deer is Xerneas and the bird is Yveltal.

Yeah...it seems that a lot of video game companies are too eager to jump on the 3D bandwagon. I kind of miss games like the early Golden Sun and Fire Emblem games, where content was more important than graphics. It's still too early to call, but I think that Gamefreak is pretty much recycling Pokemon designs to show off their new game engine.

I'd say Gen 6 looks like it's taking place in a Europe inspired location, actually, based on the Clearly Not The Eifel Tower.

It wouldn't be the first Generation with recylced designs...

It took me far too long to realize the Europe thing. :P That sounds much more interesting than another State-inpired region, I think.

That... that's actually a very good point! =O

That's a very good point. I still wish there were remakes, but it all makes sense. And, really, did we want another set of DS games? =P

I'm not graphics obsessed either, but this is an awesome shift; both keeping the 3D graphics style, while being able to keep the main game style of gameplay; unlike Colosseum.

The guy definitely is a Blair expy(Not that I'm complaining, he's got the best design of them all, still. Even better than Red. Yes, I said it.), but I'm not getting the Leaf look for the girl. I mean, she has her hair worn differently, and her clothes are different too(A case could be made for her hat, though). We probably need to wait for better screens or official art there, though.

I think they've learned their lesson with the absolute hatred for a third Fire/Fighting starter last Gen. =P ... Instead, they'll have the Fire/Fighting type be one of the common Pokemon. =P Also, we had Fire monkeys before, didn't stop the monkey trio from Gen 5 from existing. =P(Which, if you remember, was just like this situation; fire monkey from Gen 4 is copied in Gen 5) And we all know that the final forms are al- *Remembers Meganium* Well, at least the second forms are always impressive. =P(I mean seriously, they don't ever mess up the first evolution for starters. I'd take some of the designs as final designs any day; Bayleef, Grovyle, Charmeleon(Yes, I said that.), Dewott(Samurott needed to stand up)...) Also, it's not a Patrat clone, it's using Dewott's face. =P (Besides, again, I don't have to repeat that there've already been a lot of clones throughout the series; it's not just starting to get recycled with changes now.)

Where are you seeing Sawsbuck, aside from generic deer look? 0_o If we're saying that, then Virizion is a green Sawsbuck with no antlers. =P

What are you talking about? =P IIRC, we got news about like half the new stuff in it within the first three months of it's announcement. Heck; we got the game itself within the first four months, if I'm remembering when it was first announced. Anything between June and October was NoA/TCPi's fault. =P

Keizah: Because 3D Pokemon RPGs have never existed. Pokemon Colosseum and XD were just bad dreams, right? =P Granted, this is the first main series game; but it's not like they haven't already been leading up to this for years. All of Gen 4 had low-quality models for the overworld, with some cool 3D cutscenes at important spots. HGSS was a good show for that. generation 5 kicked that into overdrive with even more 3D overworld stuff, with higher quality models. It had more cutscenes with more impressive looking scenes, and the entire battlefield was 3D, except for the Pokemon and stat bars. Kicked up a notch in Black/White 2 with additions to the field so it's not static looking. This is the logical progression; since the 3DS is vastly more powerful than the DS. They probably couldn't afford to have true 3D characters last time, since that would've been more than the system could handle without making things look horrible. The 3DS, however, can handle that and more. Hence why the battles look so awesome here, while having a full 3D interface.

The only thing I find odd, is the camera angles in the battles. We get to see all of 10 seconds of battles, so it might be more complex, but I've honestly gotten used to the whole 'you're in one corner of the screen, they're in another, you stay there through the battle' stuff. Doesn't mean I don't want them to move; just not have the camera swing around seemingly randomly. Though, if it's like Battle Revolution or Stadium, then it might just be a good idea after all. Probably just nostalgia speaking. =P

/EDIT: The Ninjas: You two have a good point there; totally didn't notice the eiffel tower-look-a-like in the background. That's a cool change of pace, then. =D

Also, what Dinobot said, though I went over it even more, too. >>'

Recycling designs is a tried and true marketing ploy in Pokemon. Or did you forget all the adorable rodents trying to capitalize on Pikachu's popularity? The fact that there's always a bird, a vermin, and a bug available almost right away? The multiple crocodillians and mushroom's we've had in the past?

Besides, anything is a better design than Electrode and Voltorb.

I watched the trailer soon after getting out of bed, so comparing the new female character to Leaf might just be a result of grogginess--I think I'll watch it again.

As for comparing "Mascot X" to Swasbuck, I got that from the branching antlers. It's definitely not the only comparison to made, of course; this many Generations in they all start blending together, I think. :P

Maybe I was just being impatient with Black 2/White 2, eheheh...

On the opposite side of recycled designs, GameFreak also gets some backlash with experimenting with new designs, so they may be a bit timid to try it again. Vanilluxe, for example, wasn't the best-received Pokemon.

Xaeraz is right; in fact, there's likely to be yet another electric rodent of some sort. And a new bird, normal rodent, and at least ONE real-life bug(Likely a caterpillar). =P

Let's see, with electric rodents we've had mice, more mice, a squirrel, and a flying squirrel. Maybe we'll get a rat this time! :o (I'm not particularly knowledgable on rodents.) But you're right, there will almost definitely be another electric rodent.
