Ruby Madness Day 7: The Delta Episode

This obviously contains huge spoilers, since it covers the part of the game that wasn’t in the original Ruby and Sapphire. You have been warned.

Omega left his house one day and was confronted by a woman who introduced herself as Zinnia. She made a few cryptic remarks and went on her way, and he didn’t think anything of it…until he stopped by to see May and found out that her Key Stone had been stolen. Apparently the thief mentioned Petalburg City, so Omega headed there to find Courtney threatening Wally. Omega repelled the Magma Admin and then discovered that Wally, too, had had his Key Stone stolen. Perhaps…

Suddenly, Steven called Omega and asked him to visit the Devon Corporation. There, Omega learned of the history of Mega Evolution, and that a gigantic meteor had suddenly shifted course and was about to collide with the Earth. A plan was in motion to use Devon’s Infinite Energy, derived from the energy of Mega Evolution, but would need Meteorite Shards to complete the process. Omega went to Granite Cave to search for these Shards, but instead found Zinnia admiring the mural of Groudon. She challenged him to a battle, and then handed over the shard upon defeat. Before leaving, she asked Omega if he was pursuing his own ideals or not, and wondered how much of the truth he actually knows. From Omega’s point of view, how much he knows doesn’t exactly matter, so long as he acts on what he does know. The world was at stake, and he wasn’t about to let it be destroyed.

Also, Groudon saw themselves in the mural and started grumbling to themselves, apparently displeased with the artist’s representation. Oh, Groudon…

Anyway, Omega went to the Mossdeep Space Center to learn more details of the plan: using a rocket, a warp hole, and a Link Cable (haha, okay), they would teleport the meteor to some other place. It seemed like a good idea. Then Zinnia burst in and criticized it. Omega was inclined to believe her, but she didn’t present any alternative of her own, so that sort of hurt her credibility. Once she left, Steven and Omega went to Meteor Falls to find another Meteorite Shard, and along the way found a member of the ancient Draconid people, who explained a few things.

Apparently, Zinnia is also a member of the Draconids, and the clan is charged with passing down the lore and guardianship of the legendary Pokémon Rayquaza. Rayquaza is said to protect the Hoenn region and will answer the call of its people when they are in danger. Zinnia, the current guardian, seemed to plan on summoning Rayquaza to deal with the meteor, and in order to do so, had a hand in helping Team Magma revive Groudon. Her plan must have been to unleash both Primal Pokémon so that their battle would draw out Rayquaza…disregarding that the collateral damage would probably put the mess made in Gadunka and Groudon’s matches look like nothing.

Soon, disaster struck: Courtney and a few Magma grunts stormed the Space Center, planning to blow up the rocket and unleash the Infinite Energy within, an explosion that would surely be large enough to wipe out the entire region. How could anyone be that far gone?! Steven and Omega teamed up to defeat her, but before they could retrieve the control device from her, Zinnia swiped it and began to lecture them once again. She proposed her theory: that there was another dimension, one with another world, another Hoenn, but one that did not have the same technology to defend itself. If the warp hole sent the meteor to that world, they would have no way to deal with it, and they would in effect destroy that world to keep this one safe. Unwilling to allow that to happen, Zinnia crushed the device, and asked Omega to meet her at Sky Pillar.

Now Omega understood why Zinnia had taken such actions. Surely, destroying another world to save their own was too high a price to pay. If Rayquaza was the only chance to keep both worlds safe, then Omega was willing to try it. He paid a quick visit to Sootopolis to enlist Wallace’s help—the Gym Leader unsealed Sky Pillar for him and, after challenging him to a brief battle, wished him luck. Inside Sky Pillar, Zinnia related to Omega the story of Rayquaza. Thousands of years ago, Rayquaza calmed the rage of Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre, earning it the trust of the Hoenn people. A millennia later, a meteor struck the Earth, leaving a crater that later became Sootopolis. Using the pool of energy within the crater, Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre rampaged again, and this time the people called out to Rayquaza to help them. The meteor shown in rainbow light, and Rayquaza transformed to quell the battle. It seemed this was the earliest form of Mega Evolution, granting Rayquaza power untold.

Hearing its past mistakes recounted made Groudon a little uncomfortable. The rest of the team reassured them that it was okay: they had apologized, and were now working to make up for their mistakes.

At the summit of Sky Pillar, Zinnia used the energy in the Key Stones she had stolen to call Rayquaza to the tower. She called out to the Pokémon, asking it Mega Evolve, but alas, Rayquaza’s body had been drained of the energy necessary to achieve the transformation. All hope seemed lost…until the Meteorite in Omega’s bag, the one Maxie had let him take so long ago, started to shine brilliantly. Omega held it out, and the next thing he knew, Rayquaza ate the darn thing and challenged him to battle. Determining that catching Rayquaza was the only way to make sure this worked, Omega sent Mega Metagross into battle and braced himself. The Master Ball still sat in his possession, but still, he hesitated…for some reason, he felt he should hang onto it a bit longer. Metagross whittled Rayquaza’s HP down as low as possible, and then they steeled themselves to withstand the Legendary Pokémon’s fierce attack. Rayquaza was strong…but so were Omega and his Pokémon. Before long, the battle was won: Rayquaza was captured in an Ultra Ball.

TEAM PROFILE: Rayquaza

TITLES: The Legend, Guardian of the Hoenn Region, Avatar of the Skies, Keeper of Balance

Rayquaza is somewhat vain, which is sort of to be expected when an entire region looks up to you as a godlike protector. They have a strong sense of duty, but they also have a rather large ego that makes them a little difficult to deal with. Still, they are trying to better their people skills. It was pretty awkward when Rayquaza and Groudon met again, and even beyond the initial encounter Rayquaza continues to tease Groudon about their previous rampages. But I’m sure they’ll become friends eventually…right…?

Zinnia taught Rayquaza a powerful move called “Dragon’s Ascent” and then challenged Omega once again. Omega sent Mega Rayquaza to fight, allowing him and the Pokémon to learn how to synch with each other before their fateful mission. When the fight was over, Omega donned the Magma Suit one more time and climbed onto Mega Rayquaza’s back, and together they rocketed up into space. Shooting out of the atmosphere, Rayquaza charged at the approaching meteor and rammed right into it, shattering it into tiny pieces that rained down harmlessly across the planet. Relief washed over Omega, and Rayquaza turned around to head back home. But, suddenly, a small piece of the meteor began to move about, and from within it emerged a strange Pokémon. The Pokémon seemed startled and, probably thinking Rayquaza had been trying to attack them, pursued the Dragon Pokémon furiously. Omega knew a battle was approaching, but he did not want to knock out the Pokémon: like Groudon, they was probably just confused, and he did not want to hold that against them. However, Rayquaza was the only Pokémon Omega could use, and Rayquaza would be greatly hindered with Omega on their back. There was only one safe option…Omega finally threw the Master Ball, capturing the extraterrestrial Pokémon and bringing them back to Earth.

TEAM PROFILE: Deoxys

TITLES: The Legend, The Shooting Star, The Interstellar Traveller

Deoxys has been described as quirky, but that’s probably because they came from outer freaking space and don’t know about standard Earth behavior yet. Apparently Deoxys had developed sentience while they were inside the meteor and does not remember where they came from, and when they sensed all the life on Earth with their psychic powers, they redirected the meteor there. They were just curious and lonely, and didn’t realize the danger they were putting the planet in. The whole situation was explained and Deoxys was welcomed as an official member of the team…though Rayquaza still gives them a hard time, just like with Groudon. But, Deoxys usually doesn’t understand that they’re being made fun of, so it sort of works out?

With the world safe, Omega said farewell to Zinnia and went home for another good rest. When he woke the next morning and heard shouting from Route 101, he worried some new trouble was starting up again, but it turned out Professor Birch was just being chased by a Shroomish. Isn’t this man supposed to be a professional…? Anyway, Omega helped him out, so Birch gave Omega another rare Pokémon!

TEAM PROFILE: Totodile

TITLES: The Restarter, The Gator

A very rash little Pokémon who puts Falzar’s most rambunctious days to shame. He doesn’t have a nickname as of yet, and he’s a little difficult to deal with in general. He and Rayquaza seem to actually get along, though…go figure.

Omega is now taking a short break to reflect on his adventures. There is that Battle Resort he heard about, and his Secret Base could use some sprucing up…well, maybe after Lilycove’s next clearance sale. But you know, the indecisiveness is actually kind of nice in a way. There are limitless possibilities in the Hoenn region, and now Omega and his team are ready to explore them all!

NEW TITLE ACQUISITIONS: For Omega, “Successor”, “Ally of Rayquaza”

These updates might start getting more sparse now. However, once I get my Secret Base looking presentable, I'll post the QR code so you can all visit.

You can use more than just Rayquaza in that battle. How, no-one knows, we just chalk it up to Magic, or Rayquaza generating temporary atmosphere for the Pokemon. =P
