So That's a Wrap on II.5
Well, I just beat Kingdom Hearts II, and since I did entries for the other pieces of II.5 I figured I’d do one for this too. This is my fifth time playing the game, so I don’t really have that many new feelings, there were just a few miscellaneous things I thought of.
(Contains spoilers for II, coded, and 3D)
At the end of KH II, Roxas and Namine reunite with Sora and Kairi, and there’s a wonderful closure to it, I think. They seem happy, and whole. Then Re:coded comes out and Data Namine suddenly says they’re “hurting” and need to be rescued? What happened? Is this just one of those “the fans want Roxas and Namine back and active so we’re going to reopen that whole thing” things? Though maybe Roxas giving his memories to Sora in 3D means they’re abandoning that? Axel was also shown in Re:coded’s end, but he respawned as Lea so I don’t think he really needs any rescuing. Aqua, Terra, and Ventus, yeah, they definitely do. And…wait, wasn’t there another character in that scene? Hm, I forget.
I also (finally) noticed that the series has moved away from having final battles against monstrous war machines. Not to speak ill of the other final bosses—each one has great importance and none of them are particularly easy, but they’ve stopped being on a physically grand scale like Ansem’s World of Chaos and Xemnas’s Dragoon Ship. It’s not really necessary, but…I don’t know, there’s just something cool about taking down a living battle cruiser that I want to experience anew. Hm, maybe KH III’s Attraction Flow opens up a stronger possibility for this returning…?
And now I want to replay 3D. I really shouldn’t, though, with school starting, and wanting to do all the extra stuff in II and BBS, and new games coming out in the coming months, and that game from months ago I bought but haven’t finished, and that new copy of Mega Man Star Force I bought because it was $7 and I am weak, and… *sigh*
Anyway, II.5 is great, I recommend it. I have a feeling it’s going to influence my next name change again…
