Steins;Gate 0

So a Steins;Gate sequel was announced.

I mean there have been novels and spin-offs and drama CDs, all of which I want to read/play/listen to at some point, but this is, like, a full-on sequel.

And not only are they making a new visual novel, they are also going to go right ahead and make a new anime based on it.

So this could be really cool.

Apparently this story takes place in the beta worldline, since it says Kyouma failed to save Kurisu. The original VN had two endings in the beta worldine: an ending where Kyouma fell in love with Kurisu but still wasn’t able to save her (it was painful), and an ending where Kyouma instead fell in love with Mayuri. I’m guessing 0 will pick up after one of those, though there’s no telling which one it might be. Either way it will be very interesting to see what happens with Kyouma’s character and relationships. I’m a little concerned, because in the artwork shown he isn’t wearing his lab coat.

It seems there is a new secret organization working behind the scenes, which makes sense, as I recall the beta worldline being the one where World War III starts in 2015. (But 0 is said to take place in late 2010.) So maybe we’ll be trying to avert that? The trailer also says “she’s still there”, seemingly in reference to Kurisu, so maybe there’s still a way to save her? Maybe still a way to reach the Steins;Gate worldline? Then again it could just be saying Kyouma still remembers her. Who knows?

There are a lot of questions, I need to try not to get too worked up just yet. :P Regardless, I’m hoping they go a bit more into why Kyouma has Reading Steiner—the exact mechanics of that are something I’ve been theorizing on for a while.

I’m glad this is happening! Especially since they cancelled the novel showing them as adults in the Steins;Gate worldline. This isn’t the same content of course, but it’s still a nice replacement, I guess. Anime subs are easier to find than novel translations!

Didn't they have a movie a year ago, or was that only pertaining to the Steins;Gate worldline?

I'm interested in this. Although I thought the original show started off a little oddly, it did turn out to be one of my favorite anime.

The movie is set in the Steins;Gate worldline, yes.

Yeah, Steins;Gate definitely has it's slow points, so I'm hoping that's something they're able to improve upon in the sequel.  What really sold it for me was the characters though, so as long as they maintain quality work in that department I can deal with pacing issues.  It'll be weird not having Kurisu, though.

Yeah I am excited about this.

I am also excited about the Chaos;Child anime because I am one of about 5 people in the world who liked C;H. But man, Steins;Gate is in a league of its own. Definitely looking forward to it.

edit: whoa there hold the phone apparently they announced yet another science adventure about a week ago called Anonymous;Code?? Oh man so much science adventure stuff is happening I am pretty hyped.

I tried watching Chaos;Head but it was too creepy for me, I couldn't get very far before getting upset.  And then there's Robotics;Notes, which makes Steins;Gate's slowest episodes look overstuffed with content. :P

Anonymous;Code does sound interesting, but I'm concerned I might not be able to handle that either. *sits quietly and sips Dr. Pepper*
