Spring Break '12

Mass Effect 3, School
After I finish this paper I'm writing (procrastinating) tonight, I'll officially be on spring break for my last year in undergraduate school. I'm still not sure if I'm going to pursue graduate school, as I've run across a few job opportunities in the city I currently live in. Honestly, I could still work in Montgomery and travel to Auburn two or three times a week for classes, but it's a 40+ minute drive both ways and I'm not sure if I want to deal with that. I would still very much like to go to graduate school, however.

I currently have no plans for my break. Fun, I know. Staying home and playing Mass Effect 3 sounds perfectly fine to me. I'm already 20 hours in and loving every minute of the game.

I have no problem with certain characters not joining my squad, mostly because I always use Garrus and... someone else. I loved Thane, Wrex, and Mordin as much as everyone else, but I don't feel like they HAVE to be in my squad to enjoy their story. Wrex's story was pretty great, and I actually feel like a made a huge impact in the world of Mass Effect with the choices I made on that quest.

Also, my birthday is on Monday. I'll be 22. I don't have any plans to celebrate. I'm waiting until PAX East with Andrew and Nate to -really- party. Seriously, that weekend is going to be a BLAST.

Mass Effect 3

It is here! My most anticipated game ever has finally arrived in my Xbox!

I went to midnight launch at Gamestop last night and made it home in record time. I managed to play for abour 4 1/2 hours. So far, the gameplay is even better than Mass Effect 2. My adept only carries a pistol, SMG, and an assault rifle, so powers recharge at an incredible speed making me a space-magic force to be reckoned with.

In the four hours I played, I managed to see

The graphics are insanely beautiful. Easily the best graphics we've seen this generation.

I have an appointment with my eye doctor in about an hour soo....

"I should go..."

Three days after my birthday. BEST. GIFT. EVER.

Fear Itself

Staff, BZPower
So I logged on and looked at the blogs and apparently everybody is afraid of the staff or something?

Do people really feel this way? I read a few entries and the consensus seems to be the opposite. It seems the staff identities some members have grown to fear are hugely hyperbolic and blown out of proportion.

Maybe I'm just biased. :P We're all pretty cool. We're humans too, y'know.

Anywho, I'm quitting my job (!). Hopefully I'll have a little more free time to dedicate to this site, after school work of course. And I have a lot of school things to do this semester.

Mass Effect 3 is a month away. I'm playing through Mass Effect 2 for the second time. I'm only just now getting around to a second play through because I wanted to preserve the memories and emotions of the first for as long as possible. Weird.

DAT AVENGERS TRAILER. Iron Maaaaaaaaaaaan! \m/

college, life
Today marks the first day of my last semester of college.

I would be wrong to say that I'm not excited, but part of me is...anxious, nervous. I know what I want to do with my life; unfortunately, I don't feel as if I am fully prepared to take on those dreams. Ahead of me is a choice: do I want to pursue graduate school or instead find a full-time job? Of course, there are no rules saying I can't do both. Best case scenario would have me working a full-time job while taking graduate courses at night, two or three classes at a time. At this point, I need to determine if graduate school will better allow me to pursue my aspirations of starting a development studio. I've looked at a few high-profile studio and the requirements for most programming positions call for a "4-year computer science degree or equivalent." I would love to say my degree is a computer-science equivalent, but I do not feel I would be qualified applying for such a position. With this, I ask myself: What can I do to better prepare myself for such a job? Would graduate school be the way to go? My good friend Nate (Than the Moa) and I have tossed around the idea of working on small, indie game projects. This would provide us with hard, hands-on experience that I wouldn't get from a graduate degree (even though a graduate degree could still be very useful if my dreams do not come to fruition). Yet part of me simply wants to go to graduate school simply because it's familiar, in my comfort zone. I love learning, and graduate school could be an invaluable experience.

So basically, I have some tough decisions ahead of me. I will need a job after I graduate in May, regardless if I enter graduate school or not. I have a lot of thinking to do until then.

Brickfair, LEGO, funfunfun
BrickFair Birmingham is in only two short weeks from now! I am getting pretty excited. I get to hang with Black Six as well as meet Emzee! Fun times.

Why BrickFair decided on Birmingham over, say, Atlanta is beyond me. Cheaper convention center, maybe? Anywho, I hope Andrew and Adrian have a fun time while they're here, especially since they're traveling pretty far. Birmingham doesn't have a lot of the cool museums that DC has. :P

Any of you guys coming along? I'd like to say hello, if you are!

Oh, and the week after I am going to Orlando for a week. Going to spend soooo much money at Harry Potter World.

I hope you all had a very merry Christmas and other holidays with your families! I spent most of my time with my two nieces and my nephew. I bought my nephew one of those Nerf footballs that whistle when you throw them and words cannot describe how happy I was when I saw the smile on his face when he opened his present. :)

Anywho, did you guys get anything cool? I got:
  • Lord of the Rings Extended Cut on Blu-Ray!
  • Halo Anniversary
  • Electric razor
  • #2, #3, & #4 of A Song of Ice and Fire
  • Adventure Time DVD
Have a safe and happy New Years, everyone!

Halo, Xbox, Master Chief and 1 more...

Granted, this is theoretically over 5 Halo titles (Reach, ODST, 3, 2, Wars) but that's a pretty impressive number to me! Halo is one of my favorite games and it helps having such great friends to play it with. Anyone else gotten this email from Xbox?

So far I've logged 34+ hours in Skyrim. I've collected 9 dragon souls so far. My characater, Jochanan, is a conjuring battlemage that primarily uses fire magic. He can transform into a werewolf on a single whim, devouring any who oppose his beastly demands.

Oh, and I stumbled upon spoilers. D: The poster claims it was an accident and a "glitch" what he was doing, but apparently it was spoilers too!

While You Were Gone

Posted by Watashi Wa , Oct 14 2011 · 61 views

Welcome back to the forums, everyone! It sure has been a while.

Two weekends ago I went whitewater rafting on the Ocoee river in Ocoee Tennessee. This was my first time ever going rafting on rapids. I must say, it was quite the thrill. The scenery was absolutely stunning. The Ocoee river twists throughout gorgeous eastern Tennessee mountains. The mountain sides were sprinkled with orange and red trees. The water was crisp and cool. That weekend was on the cooler side; the highs for the day maybe reached the low 70s. The rapids were mostly class III and class IV but were actually quite tame to what I had imagined. Numerous eddies (a small pool in a body of water that flows in the opposite direction of the main body) allowed us to slow down our pace and catch our breath. Unfortunately, the day before I slipped on a rock in the river and tried to catch my fall with my left hand and ended up spraining my left wrist. This didn't impact my rafting experience because I was on the right side of the raft and was doing most of the rowing with my right hand. However, for the last two rapids, our raft instructor decide we were going to go down backwards. While it was fun, I fear it injured my wrist a little more. Thankfully my wrist has returned to its normal size.

I think I might do a few entries with the tag "While You Were Gone." I'm going to look back at a few of my favorite movies, books, and games that have come out since the forums have been down. Hopefully some of you will enjoy those entries.

So, what was your favorite activity that you did over the summer? It was a lengthy stretch of time, surely some of you have some neat stories.
