Metroid Mania

Alternative Titles: Any Objections?

So. Let me explain where I've been the last few days: Playing Metroid Other M. And Metroid Prime. And Fusion. Probably will throw in the original for good measure soon. =P

This series is awesome, and by the time I'm done, I'll only be missing Prime: Hunters, and Super Metroid. I finished Other M 100%, though. =)

Other M stuff: Lemme first start by addressing the controversy. Here's the situation... Ridley's just been revived by the Galactic Federation, purely by accident. There's a traitor, and one of Samus' friends seemingly was trying to attack her. Ridley is alive. So, honestly, after staring down the person who... Killed Samus' parents, nearly killed her like 10 times, died about as many times, returned the same amount of times; and all this on top of her nearly dying and getting the Baby Metroid killed in the process... Is it really a surprise that she goes into shock? And to boot, she doesn't nearly lose the Power Suit simply because she loses it... She only starts to transform to normal form when she's nearly killed by being grabbed by Ridley. Which is kinda fitting, given that she transforms when she dies in like every game that's not named 'Prime'. And transforms back when she's shot like an hour or so later. So honestly, it's not that hard to believe that her reaction was, you know, normal human reactions. Especially since she pulled herself together after a certain ally got knocked off the arena.

The game itself was awesome, though. Kinda wish it was a little longer, though. Most of it was cutscenes. =P

Metroid Fusion: Playing this after playing through Other M all the way... It's awesome. Since Other M was the timeline insert, Fusion obviously has a similar feel to Other M, and that's very cool. Especially obvious with the Adam dialogues. Haven't beat it, though.

Metroid Prime: Only just gotten the Wave Beam, but... It's very interesting. I can see the whole Prime Hunters similarity, and I haven't even played Hunters. =P Can't wait to see how things advance in that.

Kk Just wanted to say that Fusion IS amazing. One of the best 2D games I've played c:

Metroid Prime is my favorite Metroid game. Great graphics, atmosphere, soundtrack and action, even the story is wonderfully done (only you have to search into it is all, the game doesn't directly spell it out for you)

For Other M ... I have no problems with a game showing Samus being more human. In fact, I prefer that. Everyone has emotions, that's just a must. So trying to show Samus in a softer light, or vulnerable, ISN'T a bad thing. She's the galaxy's most elite Bounty Hunter who's saved planets and worlds ten times over. We deserve to see what she's thinking and what her weaknesses are, because everyone has them.

What I didn't like, was just how it was played out. :/ I mean, the story really wasn't anything too special and came off as way too overdramatic. Samus herself, was just ... I can't see this person being able to kill off giant slug creatures and energy sucking Metroids, and then having a looooot of dialogue to things that aren't important ... issues with this guy that's been featured in one other game as a robot ... scared of Ridley (which, yes, I understand, but she's faced this guy like five times already. She can't be that frightened). It was just poorly told. :/ GREAT idea. But just portrayed in completely the wrong way.

Eeko: Oh dear god I could rave about the Prime Trilogy for a long while. Wonderful, wonderful games. As you know. :P The only thing I wish is that Sequence Breaking were more feasible. Apparently Space Jump First is still possible in Trilogy, but it's horrendously difficult and up to luck, and took even an experienced Sequence Breaker 7 hours of trying to get.

As for Other M, I haven't played it but I watched an LP of it when bored. I'm okay with most of the storyline, really, except for the PTSD reaction to Ridley. I mean, c'mon, she's faced him so many times completely calmly before, including multiple times in the Prime Trilogy, which occurs right before Super Metroid. And yet, in Other M, she completely goes to pieces. Umm, how about no?

I've heard some stuff about seeing him alive again being the cause of the PTSD stuff, but that's also inexcusable because she thought Ridley was dead prior to encountering Meta Ridley aboard the Orpheon, and she didn't break down then. Heck, she probably thought she killed Omega Ridley on Pirate Homeworld, and the appearance in Super Metroid would have been surprising as well. But, again, no PTSD. I just don't buy any of the crazy explanations.

Speaking of which, it is interesting how Ridley is as tenacious as a cockroach. Only Dark Samus surpasses Ridley in tenacity, although her stupidity kills her anyway. And why am I calling it a her? Technically it's genderless. Anyway, Ridley's only "real" deaths have been in Super Metroid and Other M.

I could ramble on about more Metroid stuff, but I think I'll pause now. :P

Rover: Yeah, I keep dying in Sector 4, though. Might take me a while to beat it. xD

Grant: I think one of the big problems there, was that they were trying to show more backstory; probably to try and explain things introduced in Fusion a little more, like Adam. Didn't do the best job, I agree, but considering that the only time she's talked aside from that is in Fusion... Plus, you're right; the only other time Adam's been featured is as a robot(Well... Computer. =P) in Fusion. Which comes after Other M. So that kinda makes a little sense. =P

I'll save the Ridley controversy for when I respond to Ballom. =P

Eeko: Definitely recommend it if you can find it. =)

Ballom: When I get a chance, I'll try the Space Jump First glitch, but I need to figure it out first and such. =P I actually need to research about it more in general... I'll focus on that after I beat the game, though.

As for Ridley, sure, she's faced him many times in the different games(Which includes Prime, as you mentioned. =P); however, think about what happened, in the previous game. She finally seemingly kills him, after like ten failed attempts(I forget if she fought Ridley twice in Zero Mission or not, and he was probably in Return of Samus as well). And then she was attacked by a baby Metroid. And then saved by it. And the Metroid then was killed in front of her eyes. Then not long after she barely survived that; she gets another self-assigned mission, and finds out her old friends could be traitors, and is seemingly nearly shot. And then seconds later she finds out the being that had nearly killed her about an hour or so earlier was her arch nemesis. Was it a little unbelievable? It could've been done better. However, is it really that bad? I think it was more just an excuse for Ridley to try and kill her, and knock her ally over the edge in the process. But, given that she was already having flashbacks, even before this, it could be argued that her memories overpowered her at that moment. Could there have been an actual reason? Yes, and I would've liked that. I think everyone would have. =P

However; lemme point some things out: she didn't have time to be shocked on the Orpheon, given that it was self destructing and all. She was still ticked, though. =P And then as for his appearance in the opening of Super Metroid... He took the Baby Metroid. As Other M showed in that same sequence, the moment someone attacks her friends; she attacks back. But yes, there wasn't any other instances of this happening... But, we honestly don't have that much story from the original two-three games. Given that it had no dialogue at all. Maybe not Zero Mission, but, well, I haven't played that. =P

And yeah, Ridley's actually worse than a Cockroach... At least with those, if you kill one, it doesn't just decide to be revived. =P But yeah, you're right about that. And even then, he probably won't stay dead for good.(You can bet he's in Fusion, and I'm willing to take that bet. =P)

In real life, PTSD isn't always triggered right when you think it would be. There have been cases where war veterans only started having symptoms of PTSD after a car accident.

Although, really, what's going on here would be more like Acute Traumatic Stress Disorder, and considering the layer-cake of disaster going on in the game, is quite understandable.
