It's mega post time! 2014 is a new year, filled with new things to come!
So! Here is the list of my top ten anticipated films; video games to follow! Films in 2014
1. How to Train Your Dragon 2
- this one is pretty simple, really; the first one is my favorite film of all time, and the trailer has shown that the visuals have improved dramatically and the music should be just as amazing. The only question remaining for me is if I'll enjoy the plot.
2. Interstellar -
Christopher Nolan's latest directing work sounds extremely promising; time travel, alternate universes, wormholes... all of this is stuff I find extremely interesting and difficult to comprehend (which makes the moments when I understand how what I'm reading works even better), and after his previous films, who wouldn't be excited?
3. Mr. Peabody & Sherman -
I feel like this one is a bit of an unusual choice; based upon the Peabody's Improbable History
segments of The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show
in the 1960s, it's about a talking dog who is the smartest being in the world, and his adopted boy Sherman as they travel through time. I haven't seen either of those things from 50 years ago, but the concept sounds whimsical enough to work for me (plus, time travel).
4. The Maze Runner
- While the third book in the trilogy was disappointing for the lack of answers, overall I really enjoyed this series and can never really decide whether I like this one or the second the best. While I am really looking forward to this... I am also very nervous. Films based upon books are very fifty-fifty; for every Lord of the Rings
or Harry Potter
or Hunger Games
you've got a Twilight
(ugh), a Percy Jackson
5. Into the Woods -
I had no idea this was coming until a friend of mine pointed it out to me recently; while I have no idea what the Into the Woods
musical is like, this is also the same friend who introduced me to Les Miserables
and who provided the final push for me to go see Frozen
- a small but exceptionally good track record. I await this film eagerly and giddily.
6. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 -
The only reason this is not higher is because the other films so far are all new (minus the sequel to the best movie ever, of course). That said, I'm interested to see if they can maintain the same quality that Catching Fire
had, since it was easily one of my favorite films of 2013. If they can maintain the steady release schedule and the quality, I think we'll be in for something special.
7. 22 Jump Street -
I by no means expect this one to match the first film, but that does not change the fact that I really enjoyed 21 Jump Street
and that the trailer for this had me laughing out loud again. All I'm looking for from this is a laugh and I'm very confident that it will deliver.
8. Guardians of the Galaxy -
More than the sequels to Captain America
and The Amazing Spider-Man,
I'm looking forward to Marvel Studios' first new film property since 2011. It sounds like it will be a very fun romp, and I'm looking forward to a more "standalone" Marvel title (I don't believe the Guardians are in the next Avengers
; their main ties seem to be with Thor
at the moment).
9. The LEGO Movie -
What would my list be without this? The animation is beautiful, and while the tale might be a little cliche and cheesy at times, there is no doubt in my mind that this is going to be a fun movie.
10. Edge of Tomorrow -
No way, another film dealing with some weird variation of time travel! I wonder if I'm interested in the subject at all. The main character here keeps getting killed in combat, but he's stuck in a time loop and uses it to his advantage to begin fighting off an alien war force. Other Films (in No Particular Order):
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
The Expendables 3
Muppets Most Wanted
The Hobbit: There And Back Again
The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Welcome to Yesterday
Earth to Echo
X-Men: Days of Future Past
Transformers: Age of Extinction
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Dumb and Dumber To
