I don't know what you're talking about.

(P.S. Stable 3D is the best thing ever. Totally worth the upgrade.)

I've met with a terrible fate...

MM3D, Zelda, blech
KK got me sick. Jerk.

I'm pretty psyched about this development and am throwing my money at the screen to make it be mine now. It's not working.

Now, please excuse me while I hack up my left lung.

My latest video gaming conquests

Posted by Akano , in Life, Video Games Sep 15 2014 · 199 views
Mega Man X, FireEmblemAwakening and 2 more...
I have been up to lots of stuffs recently. Mostly of the electronic gaming variety.

First off, I played Mega Man X for the first time courtesy of the Wii U Virtual Console (prompted by a fantastic video by Egoraptor). Fantastic game; the more I play SNES games, the more I regret not owning a SNES in childhood.

After playing Fire Emblem (Rekka no Ken) and Sacred Stones, I finally caved into my roommate's demands that I play Awakening; OMG SO MUCH AWESOME! Probably one of my favorite games of all time, and definitely looking forward to playing it again.

Right after completing Awakening, I received Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney in the mail. Another fantastic game; Layton puzzles and story combined with Phoenix Wright courtroom shenanigans made for an awesome crossover. I just wish Maya hadn't been given a valley girl accent. :/

And, finally, my roommate got some 3DS Smash Bros codes, one of which he shared with me. I'm loving Mega Man so far; will definitely be playing as him once the Wii U version comes out (not getting the 3DS version; I'd like to spare my buttons of a painful death). I really wish the demo included Robin as a playable character, though; of the new roster, I'm looking forward to playing as him the most.

On a more academic note, this Thursday is my Ph.D. preliminary exam oral defense, so that'll be fun. I've already worked through the problems that I will be asked about, and I think I've solved all of them. Hopefully all will go well. ^_^

Fire Emblem
So, my roommate finally coaxed me into playing the first Fire Emblem (actually the seventh, but the first one released in the US) for GBA, and I'm loving it. After finishing it, I'm definitely looking forward to playing Fire Emblem: Awakening, because I've heard nothing but good things about it.

The music is great in that awesome nostalgic way, the characters are fun and memorable, the magic wielders are freakin' awesome, and the gameplay is fantastic – in order to keep all your troops alive, obtain everything worth getting in each level, recruiting all new troops, and beating the levels is a fun challenge.

Other things I've done in the past week or so include:
  • Finishing MetalBeard's Sea Cow (Awesome!)
  • Learning how to derive the formula for the volume of an n-dimensional sphere (really clever trick!)
  • Drinking lots of tea.

Pokémon Y: Adventures on the GTS

Trades, Shinies
So, I've been doing various things in the world of Pokémon recently. I obtained a Squirtle on Wonder Trade (that was awesome), a Froakie from Spain, various forms of Vivillon, a Riolu from Japan (リオル), and a Rotom (8D) from Japan (ロトム). I'm hoping to try the Masuda method to get a shiny Riolu, because shiny Lucario is awesome (and yellow).

Also, I caught a shiny Ditto in Pokémon Village. Luckiest chain ever (I definitely did not get a chain of 40...).

Recent updates

Due to the combination of the servers being taken offline and me being in school, it's been a while since my last entry. I managed to find most of my entries from Google's cache (Aug 26 - now), so they've been posted as though I had posted them on their original entry days, but the comments have disappeared into the aether.

On a more jubilant note, I've been playing Pokémon Y and Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies recently (this is in no way like Tekulo's recent entry). I'm on the first part of case three of the latter, and I have to say that case two was very enjoyable. The twist was really good, and all the crazy weirdness of the people in that case now makes sense (it kind of reminds me of Turnabout Big Top from Justice for All).

In Pokémon Y, I have gotten through Victory Road and am now ready to face the Pokémon League:

Also, I think it's fantastic that I can customize my character with a yellow hoodie and well-matching fedora.

My party currently consists of Keaton (Delphox), Anubis (Lucario), Lapras, Sylveon, Snorlax, and my HM user (a linear combination of Machoke, Talonflame, Pansage in near equal probability). I absolutely love the fact that the Fennekin family is based on mages, and Sylveon is absolutely fantastic. Since evolving it, I don't think I've had it faint once.

Sonic Generations

Sonic, he can really move
So, lately I've been playing Sonic Generations as a fun way to pass the time. It's a fantastically good game that I recommend to any Sonic the Hedgehog fan. It brings back the play styles of the 2D platformer and that started by Sonic Adventure. (Though the final boss is really lame.)

I also like a lot of their remixed songs. (Green Hill Zone and Chemical Plant Zone sound really cool!)

In A Link to the Past news, I've rescued the maiden in the Dark World version of the Lost Woods and am now in the Village of Outcasts trying to find out where the next maiden is being kept. I'm also getting thoroughly thieved by the denizens of said village. On an unrelated note, my roommate and I also got shiny Dialga at GameStop recently. That's pretty sweet.

And tomorrow I have my first class. Looks like my summer's officially over...

So, I'm playing A Link to the Past...

Zelda, A Link to the Past
...and I'm not enjoying it as much as I hoped to...

*avoids all the random objects being thrown at him in disagreement*

Let me explain.

I'm currently rescuing the maidens in the Dark World. I'm making the assumption that you're supposed to rescue them in numerical order, but I think they can be saved in (almost) any order. I've rescued two of them, with the third lying in the Dark World equivalent of the Lost Woods (the Skeleton Forest, I think?). Anyway, it took me forever to figure out how to get over there, since no obvious path showed itself on my map.

This game needs a guide. A Navi, Tatl, Ezlo, Midna, or King of Red Lions. Someone who knows the world and can help you get to where you need to go. I've been to the fortune teller in the game to figure out where to go, but he only gives you names, not directions, which makes it frustrating when I'm running around like a chicken with my head cut off all over Hyrule trying to figure out where to go next.

Perhaps it will grow on me, but right now I'm longing for Minish Cap and its wonderful gameplay...
