Things. And stuff

BZP Anniversary Week always makes me feel like I should renew my Premier Membership.

Maybe someday.

Posted by Parugi , in BZPower Dec 01 2012 · 378 views

I finally went through my inbox, managing to clear out seven of the twelve pages that had accumulated in there.
It's... rather surprising, the things you can find in a stack of PMs. Heck, there was stuff in there from 2009, 2010--before and immediately after RotR started! O.o
Shocking. But, it's all gone/condensed now, so it's all good--especially since I managed to find and save a bunch of older summaries for RotR plots that had been PMed to various people. ^_^

It also gave me some ideas of things that I can remove from RotR's front post--things that no longer apply/aren't used anymore. But, I'll elaborate more tomorrow.

So yeah. Now to go and post in RotR, check the BZPRPG, and then get to bed at last... See ya tomorrow, BZP!

Huh... so apparently my 6-year-anniversary was three days ago and I didn't notice. Weird.

I suppose I should work on something special to post, then, eh? X3

RPG Contest #23 has begun. So here's my schedule for the next two weeks regarding Day Run:

March 2-4 - Finish editing and enter Day Run.
March 10 - Broken Unity rewrite begins.
At some point in the next three weeks - A continuation of "One" will be posted.

Also, some exciting news! Yesterday my school district had a Junior Career Convention, where we basically learned a bunch of stuff relating to getting jobs. I talked to one of the speakers there and he told me that he would get me in touch with a columnist/novelist in Eugene, OR -- which means that some sort of writing based job could very well be in my near future! :D

Nothing's set in stone at the moment, however. But still; something is bound to come out of this. ^_^

Rpg Contest #23

Posted by Parugi , in BZPower Feb 18 2012 · 571 views

So I just heard from an anonymous source that the theme for the next RPG contest is going to be crime scene investigation. As in, investigating a major murder is going to have to be a central plot point.

If you are in Day Run, then you realize the implications of this.

HINT: I can't enter Day Run, because that's not a central plot point in its story! DX

Now, if you're like me, then you are unhappy about this. Believe me... so am I. I just said that. But never fear! To honor Day Run and its eventual epic, I'm still entering this contest -- with a NEW entry!

Behold; I give you the very first sneak peek of

It was an unusually cold day in the streets of Ta-Koro. At least, that's what it felt like to Detective Tahu as he approached a taped-off section of the road; on days like today, even the Mangai could freeze solid. Still, chilled by the shock of another murder or not, the Toa had a job to do. The presence of a dozen other beings, all of them probing the area or deceased for evidence, was a testament to that.

As he stepped over the tape, he scanned the area for the victim. Spotting him, Detective Gali gave a slight nod, which Tahu returned. Finding the body, he quickly approached it, noting the presence of Pohatu. The Toa of Stone held a camera in his hands, and was busy taking pictures for later reference.

"Pohatu," Tahu said shortly, nodding at his comrade. Pohatu looked at the new arrival, returning the nod. "What've we got here?"

"Name's Kapura," Pohatu said quietly, taking another photograph. "Vakama's right-hand. Witnesses say he was delivering a message when he got attacked, but he didn't seem to try to fight back. The message is nowhere to be found."

"So it's aggravated assault." Pohatu nodded. Tahu stooped down, carefully examining the Matoran through the lenses of his sunglasses. He noted a couple of wounds in Kapura's stomach, bloodied and bruised. "I don't suppose they saw the killing blow?"

"The general verdict seems to be that the victim was impaled with a trident-like tool," Pohatu replied. Tahu was silent. "Judging from what we've uncovered, it seems the killer had some sort of interest in the letter."

"Which explains why it's gone. Though why the victim didn't try to fight him off or run away..." Tahu trailed off, standing up again. "Either our guy took the letter..." The Toa of Fire pulled off his sunglasses. "Or Kapura forked it over."

So, there you go! Expect to see the first full draft of this baby up in a week or so. =)

Rpg Fatigue?

Posted by Parugi , in Stories, BZPower Dec 22 2011 · 407 views

so RPG Contest #22 voting is going to begin soon. I'm not sure if I'm actually nervous or not at the prospect of losing -- which, given the number of extremely good entries this time around, is a very real possibility.

So... eh. Not sure what I'm trying to say here. I suppose, I'm not necessarily going to mind if I lose this time -- and, frankly, I almost feel a little hopeful that I do. I really feel like the downtime did some serious damage not only to ROTR and Day Run, in terms of both activity and story progression/coherency, but to myself as a GM.

Looking back, the way I've run my RPGs has deteriorated exponentially ever since the forums came back, compared to how I used to run both games. I feel like both stories have become a lot less about the players and more about me trying to get things to go the way I want them to -- heck, Day Run can't even go anywhere half the time due to me being unable to post.

I don't know. I'm starting to feel more and more like I'd not a good RPG GM. Either that, or I'm experiencing some serious GM fatigue. =/

Short Stories Contest #8

Posted by Parugi , in BZPower, Stories Nov 20 2011 · 461 views

I'm entering. While I just started working on my entry, I've got a lot done.

For players of Day Run -- you should find it interesting, since it gives insight into some of the events that occurred in Illuxio's dimension before his universe died... kind of. :o

Updates And Unfortunate Broken Unity News

Posted by Parugi , in BZPower Oct 20 2011 · 438 views
Not going to bother with anything formal or whatever today; for some reason looking at ROTR has worn me out.

Day Run

Not much to say here; things are rolling along nicely. If things go according to plan, it'll be done by January -- and with a lot of twists and turns thrown in.

Heck, even in the short amount of time that it's been back, we've already had a couple of major discoveries... kind of. While I'm pretty sure this post (coincidentally post #66) breaks a couple of rules, it very clearly turned the public view of Lyxek around as a villain -- and that's awesome. With luck, things will keep going smoothly.

Rise of the Rockets

Sigh. As I said before, for some reason, every time I go to reply to the RPG, I feel all worn out. Before anyone asks, it has nothing to do with the players that have been posting a lot lately; you guys are awesome. But I seriously feel as if the downtime did some terrible things to the RPG. Interest was already waning immediately before the forums went off-line, which stinks by itself; but now that the forums are back, it feels like I -- as well as a couple of the others -- have just... lost a bit of interest. I don't feel the same energy I did back in April when I would go to post; it seems like trying to come up with a post is now a tedious duty or something, and it's really aggravating me for a number of reasons -- the biggest of which being that, as the game master, especially with the number of plans that I want to put into action in the game, I shouldn't feel so worn out about the game.

The biggest problem, I think, has to do with another downtime-related thing. As a result of the archiving thing, we essentially had to leave behind all of the information we had put together in the old RPG topic and start anew -- which in many ways is a good thing, except for the fact that, because of the whole "log you out when you go to the archive" thing, a surprising number of people seem to suddenly be uninterested in the RPG, just because they don't want to have to log back in; I've actually had to push a couple of people to just suck it up and go get their profiles, since I don't follow their logic of not doing so, but eh....

I don't know. I guess my main point is just this: I really don't want the topic to die, especially just because we had to relocate; that seems like a terrible reason to let something as big as ROTR die. Consider this a reaching out of sorts -- the point at which the old topic was cut off is now a new milestone for us to reach again. So let's pull together and keep on playing until we beat that page record -- it's senseless to me to consider that as something that can't be done again, considering we've done it before, and with the experience that we've gained since then, this will provide an opportunity to come up with even better plots and role-playing experiences than we've had in the past.

Art and MoCs

Since school started, I've begun taking an art class. I'm happy to say that I'm improving at a very rapid pace -- I've already made a couple of really awesomesauce pictures (including one of a Breaker from Day Run) that I'll eventually scan and post here. Needless to say, Lady Kopaka and others were right in saying that everyone is an artist -- they just need to find something that works for them. ^_^

But yeah. Due to failing in all of my attempts to draw Dalmia from Day Run, I've recruited a friend to try her hand at it; most likely, knowing her, it'll be amazing and I'll have to accept it as the official artwork of the character. That, too, will eventually be posted here, whenever it gets finished. I've also improved several MoCs over the downtime, including Lyxek and the Toa Exa; I'm not sure when I'll get those posted, though rest assured that they will come eventually -- the Toa Exa, in particular, tie in with my Broken Unity reveal below.

This'll require a blog post in and of itself; however, over the summer I watched the entirety of Neon Genesis Evangelion.

My reaction?

............................................................................. ARGBOOM.

More information once my head reforms and I make a blog post with a more in depth explanation.

Finally... the reveal about Broken Unity:
I've decided to restart it.

I know at least one person is probably going to be upset by that sentence. However, after rereading it and weighing some things, I've come to the conclusion that it's... well, just really badly written. It's been on-going since 2007, and since that time, due to events in Day Run, Night Ride, Gladiator, Thaken and other stories, a lot of my original plans just don't add up anymore; there are a number of plot holes that I really want to fix, but can't, due to the fact that it would require the rewriting of several chapters to effectively do, anyway. On top of that, ever since its last update, I've found myself in a position where I just can not continue the story -- I had a chapter written up back in June, but the thumb drive that it was on was stolen and ever since then I just don't have the will to put back together what I had at one point.

So... yeah. I'm going to restart it. With new forums to post it on, as well as with everything on the other forum, anyway, and newer, better ideas that can be written far better now that I've improved my writing abilities, a fresh start seems like the right choice. I'm planning on starting the rewrite sometime within the next few weeks, so if you're interested in following it.... yeah. Be on the look out.

(And Kal -- again, I apologize. But to be honest, you basically are my only reader... :P )
