Second year of university done

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Daily Life, Education May 24 2014 · 82 views

Having done my last exam a couple of days ago, I have now finished my second year of university, which feels pretty good.
The exam in question was really nasty, and I don't think I did very well on it. Still, I doubt it was bad enough to not even pass, and my assignments were good, so that will bump the grade up.
This year hasn't been anywhere near as good as the last. It's been really stressful and I'm glad it's finally over. It feels really nice to be able to relax guilt-free for a while and I can finally start catching up on all the movies and games I've bought.

Also, got my hands on this:

Steelbook DVDs are pretty awesome.
Now I just have to wait for Ghost in the Shell: Arise to finish and hopefully get an actual release over here. I'd very much like to have a complete GitS collection.

Settling into the new house

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Daily Life Aug 22 2013 · 74 views

Well, after a couple of days of unpacking we're starting to settle into the new house. My room is pretty much done now, although not that it matters much anyway, since in just over a month I'll be packing my things up again for university.
Still, just need to unpack a few more things and hang up some posters and it'll be set. It's a fair bit smaller than my room in the old house, but again it doesn't really matter as I won't be spending much time here once I'm back at university.

Took some pictures (which are of poor quality because it's 11:30 pm and thus there's no natural light... and maybe I'm no longer as good with a camera as I like to think): [1] [2] [3] [4]

My desk and bookshelf are a lot smaller than the old ones so a lot of my stuff will have to stay in boxes and be stored under my bed or on top of my wardrobe. Only have enough room for half of my CDs on the shelf :P Also not enough room for a chair, so I have to awkwardly sit on the edge of my bed when I want to use the computer.

Moving

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Daily Life Aug 19 2013 · 78 views

Well, it seems like I just got back home with all my stuff from university, and now it's all packed up again as my parents are moving house tomorrow.
I quite enjoy moving. It's a lot of work, and we definitely have a ton more stuff to pack up and transport to the new house than we did when we moved here, but something about packing your things up is really fun. Especially when you find some belonging that you have completely forgotten about, like when I found my Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon Yu-Gi-Oh! card earlier today. Sure was a nostalgic moment.

I also tend to take forever to pack my stuff because I like to sit there and go through each individual thing before putting it in a box.

CDs are definitely my favourite thing to pack. So many things to look through and so many "oh, forgot I had that. Should listen to it again some time" moments.

Then there are books, which are also awesome. At first I was going to put them all into one bag but quickly came to the conclusion that it would be far too heavy to move, even without my university books.

And you know, as much as I prefer buying games physically rather than digitally, I am pretty grateful that I don't have an extra 100+ copies of games to carry from my Steam library.
Also found some of my PS2 games, which again, brought nostalgia. Will get the console and the rest of the games down from the loft tomorrow and probably spend a good chunk of time playing them once we move.

Unfortunately, it's apparently going to take Sky up to two weeks to set up the internet in our new house, so might be stuck with having to use my phone for that for a while.

Oh look, I have a new spinny

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Daily Life Jul 22 2013 · 52 views

That's seven years I've been on BZP now, which is a pretty long time actually. The more I think about it the older it makes me feel.

Not much else to blog about besides that.
The Steam sale is coming to an end, and as much as I dislike buying digital games when physical copies of them are available, couldn't resist picking up a couple of bigger titles, as well as some indie stuff.
Didn't think that the sale was all that great though. It seemed like the same handful of games going on sale again and again. Granted, there were lots of great indie games with big discounts throughout the whole sale.

Moving Out

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Daily Life Jun 12 2013 · 91 views

Well, tomorrow morning I'll be moving out of my university accommodation and back home to London for the summer.
I guess I'll kinda miss this room, even if it's not all that great, and thus I decided to take a few pictures of it before I started packing my things: [1] [2] [3] [4]

Exam Went Fairly Well

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Education, Daily Life May 23 2013 · 51 views

So the exam went much better than I thought it would. The first two questions were very nice and easy, but kind of fell apart at the third one, partly due to lack of time, partly because it wasn't a very nice question.
But hey, it was a choice of three questions out of seven, so at least I wasn't stuck with the other four, which were pretty horrible.

Having a bit of free time, got myself a new headset and a new pair of earphones, since my old ones broke. It always feels strange switching to a new headset because I get so used to how the old one sounds.
Also picked up a couple of books: The Revolution of Everyday Life by Raoul Vaneigem, having previously read a library copy, and Selected Poems 1947-1995 by Allen Ginsberg, having enjoyed what I've read of his work.

All Assignments Done

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Daily Life, Education May 16 2013 · 40 views

Well, after handing in 3300 words worth of law coursework on Tuesday and doing my mooting assignment earlier this morning, I now have nothing but exams to look forward to.
The moot went fairly well, although having went with a white shirt and a red tie I resembled Agent 47 from the Hitman series more than I intended (although I do have hair of course). Not necessarily a bad thing, but I was going for more of a lawyer look rather than a professional assassin look.
It has been a very busy month and will continue to be so with exams on the 23rd and the 30th, the first of which I'm not feeling too good about. I do have a week to fix that though, so hopefully my first year of university will turn out alright.

Caffeine Addiction?

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Daily Life May 04 2013 · 39 views

So, I went into the kitchen intending to get myself a cup of mint green tea, daydreaming as I did so, and everything seemed fine in the moment. However, it was only upon returning to my room and taking a sip of said tea when I noticed that it tasted a bit odd, at which point I came to the realisation that what I have actually made was, in fact, a cup of coffee.
I am not sure how I went through the whole process without it even occurring to me that I was making an entirely different drink, which I keep on an entirely different shelf and consume from an entirely different mug.
It seems that I either have a caffeine problem or really need to get some sleep for once. Probably both.

And yes, I have nothing else noteworthy to blog about, in case you're wondering.
Mostly just trying to finish off my coursework and prepare for the two exams at the end of the month, which have me a bit worried.
It's hard to believe that my first year of university is already almost over.

An Early Awakening

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Daily Life Oct 30 2012 · 88 views

So, some drunk students in my accommodation apparently thought it would be funny to activate the fire alarm at 4 AM, thus waking everyone up and making them go stand outside in the cold for 20 minutes.

It's fine really, not like I was planning to get a decent amount of sleep for once before a day at university or anything >.>

Back Home For The Weekend

Posted by Cheshire Cat , in Daily Life, Music, Whining Oct 27 2012 · 83 views

Well, I'm back in London for the weekend, and you know, I like London a lot less now. Getting around is way too difficult with these endless masses of people, and while I did get used to it before, having spent a month in university and coming back, it's less than enjoyable. Seriously, I got from Cambridge to London quicker than I got from one point in London to another, and it barely cost me more.

Also, that Devin Townsend show I went to on Wednesday was absolutely brilliant, and I am very jealous of the people in London who at this very moment are enjoying his biggest show yet. The man has seemingly infinite amounts of charisma and is of course an incredible musician.
