The Bzpower League Of Authors: Reborn

...Is back. Nuile and I realize that we have neglected this, and we also realized several problems there were with this writers' club. But we are ready to devote our time once again to this in order to hopefully stimulate writing on BZP, whether it be fanfiction or not. As such, we have decided to start smaller -- we realized that we expanded far too quickly, and as such for the moment the League of Authors shall consist of only bi-weekly challenges and a Review Pass.   With this new change co

My Thoughts on the Matter

Top ten celebrity character crushes (which has basically just become "favorite characters" because I'm not sure I'd say I have crushes for all of them)--both for male and female.   Female: Fantine (Anne Hathaway)--Les Misérables     Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic)--Castle     Parker (Beth Riesgraf)--Leverage (honorable mention to her brief appearance in Criminal Minds as Dr. Maeve Donovan as that side story was adorable [edit: er, not the end of it, but the character in general], as w

5 Years

So today marks my 5-year BZ-anniversary. Forgot completely about it until I saw that I had an Olmak. Half a decade, wow. Lot of memories from this place. Many awesome people that I've met, and, most importantly, the beginning of my writing career. Thank you, BZPower.   And because I didn't write anything specifically for my anniversary, I'll just shamelessly plug my new poem again. =P COT literature always gets buried so quickly...Anyway, here's to many more half-decades on BZPower!   Oceans. Short Story Review Pass

The Ambage Short Story Review Pass   To write well, you need constructive criticism. No writer is perfect -- everyone can improve. Therefore, reviews are necessary.   Everyone posts stories on BZPower to get feedback. This "Review Pass" system will help with that. A "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" type of thing. Or rather, "I'll scratch his and you scratch mine and she'll scratch yours and he'll scratch hers and she'll scratch his, etc."   Here's how it works: You review the reques

2012 in Review

So 2012 was an amazing year. Most probably the best year I’ve had yet. I’ve made some mistakes, I’ve done some stupid things, I haven’t done quite as much writing or reading as I would’ve liked, and there’s been a few other small downtimes, but overall it was amazing. So, let’s break down the categories (I considered separating them like Nuile did, but I figured why not just put them all in one entry…maybe that was a mistake =P):   Writing ~ I’ve made amazing progress with my writing this year.

Just Voted

Woke up, ate breakfast, went to my morning Econ class, did an hour workshop for my English class, Voted for Mitt Romney/Paul Ryan (and all the other things I could vote for -- I looked at each measure/candidate extensively last night before choosing which way I would vote). And I am wearing my Les Miserables T-shirt. A great day.     If you live in the US, and are legally able to, go vote! Go do it. Take advantage of this great Right we have and go vote. And don't just vote for the President

Project: Room Re-Organization. Complete.

So not sure if I've mentioned this before but I'm going to Community College for two years before transferring somewhere else so I can save money.   Point is, I realized that I really needed to reorganize my room to do homework and whatnot, as previously I didn't even have a desk in my room (my computer desk was in the Family Room, which is where I did everything). I also needed more bookshelves, a place to read, and decorations. So over the summer I moved that desk into my room, rearranged my

Platonish

“Platonish” And Why It Was Such a Great Episode (some spoilers to follow)   “Platonish,” season nine, episode nine of How I Met Your Mother, is my favorite episode in HIMYM’s recent history. Without a doubt it’s my favorite episode so far this season (and apparently I’m not alone in thinking that, either, as it’s the highest rated episode so far this season on IMDb), and it’s one of my favorites from the past couple seasons.   There’s been a few disappointing episodes the last couple s

Top Ten Tuesday #2: Top Ten Books I Wouldn't Mind Santa Bringing Me

So on a few writing blogs I follow, there's a "Top Ten Tuesday" meme that people do, where each week they give a new theme, and you give your top ten books for that theme. I decided I'd start doing it here. The list is roughly in the order of most- to least-wanted. I Wouldn't Mind Santa Bringing Me... Les Miserables, hardback, unabridged, preferably leather-bound. I only have an abridged version, and I would love to read the full, unabridged version some day. Lone Survivor, Marcus Lu

Ambage Writing Achievements

Writing Achievements for the Ambage   Sometimes the most elusive thing for a writer to find is motivation. You might have all the ideas ready, but without a goal, you can get stuck. Enter the Ambage Achievements, created by Cederak. Think of them as a list of mini writing-goals for Ambage members, a chance to show yourself how much you have accomplished and to chronicle your writing endeavors for all to see. These individual achievements are meant to provide you, the writer, with something to

Top Ten Tuesday #13: Books I've Read So Far

~ :: :: ~     Unfortunately I haven't been keeping up with these, but school and a couple other projects are done so I have a little more time now--plus, I really like this theme. It's been an amazing bookish year so far for me, with a lot of really great books read--38 read so far total. It's actually fairly surprising to me that all of the books below (with the exception of The Walking Dead) I rated 5 stars--something that I don't do very often, so to have 11 books (because of ASoIaF) alrea

The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak ISBN: 0375842209 Publisher: Alfred A. Updates Entry

Few things that I've been meaning to blog about but never have: The Hunger Games ~ Been reading through the series; I'm a little more than a third through Mockingjay right now. I actually like them. While the writing isn't the best, and the present tense bugged me at first, but I've gotten used to it and now I really enjoy them. I'm quite excited to finish the series. Will blog about it more when I do, most likely. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I plan to soon. Speaking of movies ~ The D

Top Ten Tuesday #12: Books to Reread

~ :: :: ~   April 16: Top Ten Tuesday REWIND -- pick a past topic you missed or one you want to revisit! As such, I've chosen: "Top Ten Books I Want to Reread" A Monster Calls, by Patrick Ness. This is probably my favorite book. I've read it twice, and I'm definitely eager to do so again. The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak. An amazing book that I've only read once--would definitely look forward to reading it again. A Song of Ice and Fire, by George R.R. Martin. Because this series

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - Extended Edition

Gallery of images here.   So Friday evening the extended edition of An Unexpected Journey came. That night I skipped NaNoWriMo and watched the film. Saturday and Sunday I watched the Appendices, and Sunday night I re-watched the film again. (Also quick note: this is the DVD version, so number of disks may differ between this and Blu-Ray/3D/etc.)   Man, I love this movie (original review here--my opinion hasn't changed all that much, though overall I think I actually like the film better than I

Top Ten Tuesday #8: Series I'd Like To Start But Haven't Yet

Top Ten Series I'd Like To Start But Haven't Yet Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien. I'm reading it this year, over the summer. I'm not letting myself go another year without doing so. Reasons are obvious. Although technically I guess I've started this, but that was years ago. Jack Reacher, by Lee Child. I love Vince Flynn and Tom Clancy and Alex Berenson and Ben Coes and Stephen Hunter. As another master of thrillers, I've always wanted to read Lee Child's books. Not to mention the new mov

Most Anticipated Films of 2015

So after writing up my favorite films of 2014, I thought I'd make a list of the films I'm most excited for this year.   Top Ten Most Anticipated Films of 2015 Star Wars: The Force Awakens. By far, the film I’m most excited for, no question. The trailer was fantastic, and I love how JJ Abrams captured the look of the original trilogy, while it’s still recognizably Abrams. Cannot wait. Avengers: Age of Ultron. Not much needs to be said. I loved the first Avengers (and most of Marvel’s films o

The Flight

So yesterday I posted a vignette called The Forest, done for a little "write-off" between John (55555) and others. We've been doing them for the past four or five nights now, so I'll probably post more here, but here's the one that we just did. Also, just for a little background on these write-offs: someone chooses a theme (usually John -- in this case, the theme was "Flight"), and then everyone participating (tonight it was Rene [EW], John, Micah [Kakaru], Lord Oblivion, and a couple other peo
