So today, for a school assignment, I was required to write a short story in the form of an African folktale. I voted on going for a "Why?" story, which explains through highly unscientific means such mysterious subjects such as "why turtles have patterned backs" or "why mosquitoes buzz in people's ears."

1. Homeschoolers don't get to go to dances very often. Honest. They don't. Despite their previously non-homeschooled parents assuring them they aren't losing out on much, they still feel deprived and wish they could make a fool of themselves in pretty clothes (and, in girls' cases, exceedingly high heels that put their lives at risk) at least once in their lives.
So when a public-schooled friend invited me to go to her homecoming dance with a group, my general reaction could be summed up with
Everything you make is limited edition.
The crummy poem you shudder to look at. The little stick figures all over your math. The magic-marker doodles on your favorite shirt. That weird breakdance move that keeps straining your ankle.
You are the only person on earth who can create something created by you.
Others can imitate what you create, or you may imitate others, but what you do is special simply because nobody else can ever create it just like you do.
And once you're gone...
1. I know you're busy, but... (I could really use some clean clothes; could you wash my car for me; would you mind doing some brain surgery really quick, etc.)
Means, "You totally don't have time to do this, but because I used this as a preface for my sentence, you'll drop what I'm doing and help me!" =D
