Minimal sketch [sketch]

Just thought I'd put this up mainly to give you an idea of how many guidelines I am curently using (or not); which also explains why many of the characters I draw look kinda wonky, but hey.   Anyway, as you can see the areas I'm more confident about (as in, face and torso) have less lines than the hand, and as I just saw it's actually a bit small ( D: not again) - should you do this, and see that something's wrong but can't place why, it's usually recommended to re-add guidelines and try to fig

Pfff...

It appears that I am somewhat allergic to the band-aids we have at home. On the one hand it's 'funny' in a way, because hey, when do you ever have rectangular red spots around your elbow? On the other hand it's obviously annoying because red and itchy and it's around the elbow and I've never really liked those contact allergies, also because they're totally random at times. :/   Oh yeah, and today we had no internet nor telephone for most of the day, until like an hour ago or so. Not good. :<

Super small hand tutorial

Disclaimer: I am sure there are many better ways to do this, and in the end every artist has to find thier own approach, but here's one I recently came up with and which I find particularly useful.   This is it, basically. Since I don't really have time for a proper tutorial right now, allow me to just quickly explain my current process of drawing hands using this small thing I doodled down in gimp (I know it's a bit wonky, but it gets the point across... I hope).   I normally start with sketc

Beautiful Notebooks :/

*sees beautiful notebook* *acquires notebook*   *puts notebook on desk*   *stares at notebook from across the room* *never dares to write into it*   ~~~   Seriously. I collect those things, however, I just cannot bring myself to write into them/use them as a diary or whatever. I even have a few with blank pages and a paper quality that is perfectly suited for drawing. But I just. Can. Not. Annoying.   Anyway, for this particular notebook it's even more so because I got it for my birthday a ye

Digital comic... :/ (+ life update)

Just a test, some playing with brush settings in gimp, featuring a few characters from ASDT/TOP... today's not been a good day for art, in fact not a good day for anything, as I was feeling quite disoriented in general.   See, our alarm didn't go off properly, just some voices whispering silently as opposed to blaring loud music... thankfully I did hear it more or less on time (still 30 minutes too late), but the rest of the morning was kind of rushed, and it feels like I never really did wake u

On the subject of doodling something every day

I would like to point out that drawing into a calendar is only a good idea for so long until you create something you actually like. :/   Like that concept I recently doodled up, shown below.     Admittedly, this was not done during a lecture, but rather a short break in between, but it still qualifies as doodle for there was no pre-sketching or similar. I like drawing armour, it's always a fun exercise. Even if drawing chainmail is annoying.   Anyway, that's one of the deities from a fantasy

Neither a good nor bad day

I managed to spill coffe over my clothing, including dark grey-and-white striped pants. Woot. Thankfully I was able to remove most of it right on the spot, but still... And someone whom I had arranged a meeting with, to solve some problems for the exercise course, did not show up. So I was at uni for 3 hours solving some stuff on my own. On the positive side, I did manage to solve another problem or two... ah well.   Anyway, thank you all for the feedback on yesterday's blog entry! I'll see wh

Workout motivation?

If anyone has advice on how to motivate yourself to work out more, do let me know! At the moment I can only bring myself to do so once a week*, and that's not really satisfying at all. :/       *actually I do sport twice a week, but the other time is in a martial arts/self defense club (jujitsu. It's fun :3), with membership and all, so that's a different kind of thing for I can't really go all like "but I don't feeeeel like it today D: "

RPG logic

NPC: "You have to hurry, the fate of the world depends on your being on time!" Hero: "Alright!"   *does several irrelevant sidequests* *polishes chainmail* *buys a new helmet* *buys some healing potions* *checks every corner of the dungeon, explores every dead end* *opens all treasure chests on the way* *goes back to make sure they didn't miss out on anything*   *eventually gets to where they ought to have gone* *enemy apparently waited for several hours to commence* *finally saves the day*   NP

stupid day

found out that I indeed failed that exam. Now I am scared of failing the next attempt as well, even though I know that with enough studying it should actually work out next time. I'm kinda annoyed and anxious now, nonetheless. :/

"I know a solution for that and I have to show you NOW"

If I'm talking about myself I also sometimes refer to it as 'annoying physicist mode'. What 'annoying physicist mode' is, you ask? Having to answer any (easier) mathematical or physical question you come across because for once it is something you can answer, some problem you actually know how to solve or at least think you do. Or attempting to explain stuff you know you should know by now because really.   And it doesn't even matter whether the other person actually wants to hear it, because no

Hoogi's adventures in physics [Scribbles]

So I started sketching Hoogi next to my notes during lectures because he's simply so much fun to draw (I need to get more Mixels, they're adorable sets). Most of the time he is confused. Don't worry Hoogi, so am I...     At some point I might vectorize them so I have some reaction images, but until then... they'll remain here. ^^ (not in GA because they're really scribbly).

Might not be around tomorrow.

Might because timezones and stuff. Anyway, the thing is, tomorrow I'm at university pretty much all day long, and in the evening I'm also going to a party. Which is quite a novelty for me, as I've never been to anything larger than a friend's birthday party before...   Needless to say, I'm a bit nervous. And I know, I'm super-late with such things, but ah well, I always had super-legitimate and logical (sorta) as well as responsible (kind of?) reasons not to go in the past, however, they don't a

5 tips for improving your drawing skills

Allow me to talk about something I actually believe I know something about - drawing. 'though as with most creative matters, there are many different aproaches that work for different people (or "artist types", if you prefer that), here's what I've done ever since I started drawing and which has always helped.   1. Draw something every day.   You will find that your visualizing skills as well as hand-eye(-mind) coordination require constant practise in order to function well, even on bad days. T

Depressing day

And it's all my fault as well. Yay.   And to make sure this doesn't turn into vagueblogging, a small explanation:   I totally underestimated the amount of time, work, and additional research that would be needed for one of the exercise courses, thus have been able to solve only a single problem out of 9, I have no idea about the rest, am confused and stressed and just a -tiny- bit down. And of course the exercise course is tomorrow. Why wouldn't it be.   I'll do better next week. I have to.   On

Guess who missed out on their BZPversary :3

The new spinny is something I'll have to get used to. D: But heeey, I'm getting better, this time I missed it only by a day! (so there's probably a time zone where it's still on time... maaybe?)   Anyway, it's been 7 years now. Awesome.     ... I still remember preparing the comic for the 2nd year spinny as though it was yesterday (obviously I was a huge fan of the borg at the time...) - I certainly had better time-management back then. And more free time =D But that's another story.   Oh yeah

Pfff... [Sims 2 woes]

I felt like pulling my hair out today... after all, Sims 2 decided to crash on me, repeatedly, in all neighbourhoods and everything... and nothing helps, no backup of the neighbourhood I spent the past year or two playing in works.   Now the last thing to try is let the game regenerate the 'hoods, and see whether these at least work. If so, great, no reinstall needed. And it's not the end of the world, as the most beloved Sims are saved externally, anyway. Still, it's frustrating and annoying an

4 quick tips for creating a comic series

Having attempted to run at least 2, and now getting back to keeping up with a third comic series, here's a small collection of things I find particularly helpful, useful, and should really stick to more often myself. C:     1. Do not wait for inspiration* Chase it with all ressources you have available - dragon, unicorn or racing car!   So you just started your comic series, and you're pumped, churning out ten new pieces over the course of a few days, and you totally want to, no, have to post t
