Evolution Please Stop

Okay, so birds are flying dinosaurs. Dinosaurs have had their chance at flight and took it, and became wildly successful.   What we have just learned, however, is that dinosaurs made another foray into flight that looked decidedly more ridiculous.   Say hello to Yi qi, the bat-winged theropod. Look at it. It even has feathers and isn't even bothering to use them to fly. What a weirdo.   (The fossil did come from China, which spawned the infamous Archaeoraptor that idiots continue to insist prove

Brickfair

So I'm probably going to regret thinking about this in the morning when I'm fairly less sleep-deprived and bold but I guess I'm actually considering attending Brickfair VA this year??? I've never been there before and the idea of planning my own trip as an adult is daunting but I guess this is something I'm seriously considering?   Right now, the biggest obstacle is travel. Living in Minnesota pretty much means being halfway across the country from everything, and that includes Brickfair. Travel

How should a story make you think?

(This is related to the latest in S&T arguments, but reading the argument is not necessarily a prerequisite for understanding this entry. Additionally, while it was sparked by something bonesiii said, this entry isn't necessarily directed at him.)   I've heard that Bionicle was supposed to take some work to understand a few times now now, and it just doesn't click with me. When I think of a story that requires work to understand, I think of Snowpiercer, with its rich, deep-running themes tha

oh hey look I'm complaining about Jurassic World again imagine that

honestly, at this point, I'm not sure if I'm more disappointed that they didn't bother to do any actual dinosaur research in this dinosaur film or that this is once again just going to be the tried-and-true "scientists are evul" Frankenstein story that pretty much 75% of sci fi films (including the original Jurassic Park) already are.

PSA

If your story about the genus Brontosaurus being revived is accompanied by a tail-dragging, swamp-dwelling, camarasaur-headed, wrinkly elephantine monstrosity then I hate you.

Cool Shocking Non-Cliché Endings To Stories

the protags die in chapter one. villain wins and gloats for the rest of the book everything explodes for no reason in the last chapter it suddenly switches to the end of a completely different story without resolving the previous one twelve straight pages of “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA”

Making the best of a bad situation

Most people on here probably don't know this, since I haven't really had any reason at all to mention it much, but I am an amputee. Not a major one, like an arm or a leg. Just a finger. (However, despite what my aunt says, that does not make me not an amputee.) The accident happened four years ago, on this very day. I don't tell the story much, partially because I'm unsure of how much of it I can tell, but it was a terribly traumatic event that still has its effects on my life.   As a result, Ma

Planets

I don't post much about my musical aspirations here (in fact the only thing related to it I can think of having posted is when I posted my Creeping In My Soul cover) so I figured I should make a post with a couple of songs I made a while ago to be part of a theoretical album themed around the eight planets and other space things. They're some of my best works to date so I figured why not?   Earth   Saturn   (I realize there's a pretty glaring issue with Earth that I haven't gotten around to fixi

Natural Selection

(you probably thought this was going to be a rant about how wonderfully true evolution is but don't worry it's not)   Last night, on a late-night whim (that also led to a somewhat hare-brained scheme related to starting the Crow Agricultural Revolution), I wrote a bit of a short horror story. I say it's a horror story but honestly I may have gone to subtle with it and ended up with a multi-paragraph description of evolution. Anyway, point is, I wrote a short story.   Here it is.   I'd appreciate

R.I.P. my sweet dril signature

while I have always fully enjoyed my old banner for its sheer hilarity at the end of my posts, especially in an argument, today felt like a time for change. So now, let us instead usher in an age of a more niche, yet equally fitting, banner.

Science Museum of Minnesota LEGO Building Contest

Are you a FOL who lives within reasonable distance of the Science Museum of Minnesota? Because if so, they're holding a building contest for anyone ages 4 and up. (Don't worry, the contest is sectioned into age groups; there aren't going to be four year olds crying because an AFOL crushed them.)   As this isn't an official LEGO contest, there are a few odd rules (gluing pieces is allowed??? for SHAME) and there is the catch that you MUST be able to bring your entry to the Science Museum in case

Palaeontologists RUINED Dinosaurs!

Remember real dinosaurs? I don't mean that upright-walking bipedal garbage, I mean this. Giant iguanas are so much cooler than what palaeontologists have reduced dinosaurs to. Active lifestyles? As if they could possibly know that from JUST BONES. Sick of all the sensationalism in palaeontology.

Informal Protector Reviews

Protector of Jungle bow is nice aesthetically but a pain to pose. He can hardly even hold it like he’d be comfortable aiming. lanky limbs are offset by the Liefield-esque chest. A slimmer torso would have made a much more sprightly Protector Too little solid green; I’d rather have 3/4 of the trans green shells be solid green, with the one under the add-on solid. the trans green should be an accent, not the main color, imo still salty about using Bright Green over classic Dark Green   Prote

D&D

don't worry this isn't a revival of that blog fad   I recently joined a D&D campaign being run by a friend of mine due to start next week and have been enjoying setting up my character. Just today, I drew her, and I figured it would be entirely relevant to my BZP blogging habits to post the picture.     Her name is Hjördís Ermentrud. She is of a fictional race called the Darkrunners, who are basically humanoid Velociraptors. My friend was happy to inform me that they can be completely feath

Have I complained about Jurassic World here yet?

You groan. "No," you grouch, "and I was hoping you never would." However, you clicked on an entry about Jurassic Park by me knowing full well what that entails, so chances are you're going to read the whole thing anyway.   Jurassic World is the latest in a series of movies that have probably done as much harm to public perception of dinosaurs as they have good. However, its impact will be worse than the previous three, almost entirely because of when it's being released.   Jurassic Park, for all

R.I.P. Leelah Alcorn

She was the latest in casualties of a violent, hateful war against people like us and her death is heartbreaking in its horrificness.   If this entry is not allowed by BZP rules, please let me know, but it had better be a darn good reason.
