[11 DAYS LEFT TO ENTER!]The Clipboard Blog Contest #1: Lego's True Potential

ENTRY DEADLINE: MAY 19, 2016   For shame, Lego. Seriously, you missed the opportunity for a good villain in Von Nebula, you forgot about what good comic art was when you hired Sayger, and darn it, that battle with Skull Basher was waaaay too short. Fortunately, you have your loyal fans to tell you all about it. And now they are going to fix it for you.   That's right, for this contest you are going to take a moment where Lego had so much potential and threw it out the door, and instead use that

My Lecture for the night

*sigh*   Why does this subject keep coming up, seeing that it is a complete stack of illogic? I don't know.   But I guess for me the concept of gender stereotypes is dead because I naturally subvert almost every female stereotype known. This is not something woke up and suddenly chose to do for fun, it's just an irrevocable part of my essence.   Stereotype: "Girls don't like Lego." Me: *pulls out cardboard box full of Lego* *shows MoC pictures*   Stereotype: "Girls like fashion." Me: *walks

Theorize about me (AMA-style thing)

This game involves writing statements that you think are true of me, and I give you responses. So, for example:   fishers64 likes the color purple.   My Response: True.   fishers64 dreams of farm animals.   My Response: Unknown. I don't remember most of my dreams.   fishers64 likes liver-and-anchovy pizza.   My Response: False.   Go!

Sword Art Online and General Anime Complaints

First off, big disclaimer:   The following blog post is not intended to be offensive to anyone who likes anime. The author of this blog post understands that she is not qualified to make an informed and reasoned judgement about the entire genre thereof, and therefore anything below is not intended to bash, make fun of, or otherwise deride any beings who may enjoy the genre.   Whew.   So recently, I decided to try out the anime series Sword Art Online, on the recommendation of bonesiii. I'm getting out of here

Yes, you read the blog entry title right. I'm quitting BZPower.   Go and yell WHYYYYYYYY!!! at me and scream your heads off now. Let the panic wash over you like a big bucket of ice water.   Now let me reassure you, please, I shall not just cut and leave all of the loose ends to rot like a dead tree like some other people I happen to know. That is a terrible thing to do, and I shall not do it. Before I leave, I will do the following things:   1. The Categorical GregF Reference will be finished

Characters Call

If you want one of your fanfictional/RPG characters to star in an new epic that I'm writing right now, post their names below. Please link me to any relevant profiles or stories that you wish me to include. You may describe or include anything in your comment than you wish to be included.   Or you can throw a character's name at me with nothing attached and let me fill in the blanks. Making up a character on the spot for no reason to be included is also allowed. Go crazy!   Or if you have no cha

Fiction does not accurately represent X

People: In fiction, X doesn't have a right arm!   People: In fiction X does not come at the end of box.   People: This is a grave injustice against X. Because X can read that he only has one arm and no longer comes at the end of box, he may believe that he has no right arm and no longer comes at the end of box!   X: Look, you suckers. I know that I have two arms [wriggles arms], and I know that I come at the end of box. And all of my fellow Xs know that too. In fact, we're so confident of that w

Dr. Cynic

So recently I sat down to watch the now-obscure movie Limitless (yes, that movie with Robert DeNiro and the unemployed writer). I was aware of the film's dark, cynical tone prior to watching, and fully expected the film to resemble a Work of Great Literature. Surprisingly, it did not fully realize its potential for depression, and instead opted for ick. I'm not sure which I dislike more.   This doesn't end my long standing beef against cynicism and the Works of Great Literature that teach it (

Of the word "logic"

The common misconception is that logic tells truth from error. That it is the study of things that lead to it. This is incorrect.   Now, if I had thought about this a little more, it would have been evident, simply because we use logic to describe how stories should go - they should be logically consistent with themselves. For example, X character is this way, therefore he would do this in this situation. This is especially apparent with the Arena Method, but it is true of all forms of writing -

Now I want to see this...

This kid is the man, too.   Does he know how dated that reference is though? That movie came out in 2004, and is nearly ten years old. (Still the best movie ever, though. )   I'm starting to think, given the large number of Bionicle questions, Nick Cage movie refs, and Bachelor of Science degrees ( let's not go there), that some of these people in that thread might be not all be kids - some of them are my age. That's sort of creepy.

Being honest and owning up to my mistakes

Recently, I wrote up a post, and some people were hurt by it. I do not mean to excuse myself by writing this. There is no excuse for what I did. Rather, I would like to explain precisely, calmly, and without shouting (bold is for emphasis, since this one is sadly long) - why I wrote that post, what I meant by it, and try, if possible, to heal up some of the pain that I have unfortunately caused.   The Post --> What I Meant it to Say That's post 7700066, which has unfortunately come to my atte

Bionicle Rumors/Leaks: A Different Take

I'm going to unpack this from what I think is a logical perspective. So we know that:   A. A new constraction line is coming in 2015 (or is rumored to be coming, we don't know: all we really know is that someone is working on one). B. That there were leaked images with the Bionicle name on them. C. The proclamation that "Bionicle is not coming back for the foreseeable future" was removed from the LMB. D. Greg is now less willing to deny plans for a future Bionicle.   So that leaves us with three

The "Four Characters" Trope

For this, there are four characters and two genders; two characters must be male, and the other two must be female.   1. Logician - This character uses analytic and strategic thinking. They are typically hardened and veteran fighters, and suppress whatever emotions they need to at any given moment. Tend to be socially reserved, and if they do talk, are focused on what they need to accomplish with their words. They usually manage to cover any true emotional stakes they have with thoughts of how t

Refrigerator - This is where you put lots of other vitally important things like Sprite, orange juice, cheese, sandwiches, other sources of protein, possible fruits and vegetables (optional), and takeout.   2. Car - This is how you get your obligatory Sprite, orange juice, cheese, sandwiches, other sources of protein, possible fruits and vegetables (optional) and takeout from the grocery store to your hou

My old mysterious Lego box - Help wanted!

So today I dug into my old tub of Lego, which is technically mine, thanks to historical proof of ownership and credible abandonment.     There's a few elements in the box that I don't recognize, as a few sets got mixed together in with the old stuff. I was wondering if some resident Lego experts could assist me in identifying some of this stuff and solving some of the strange mysteries included therein.     I've never seen any of these Lego plates before. They have two ridges down the center,

No, you just don't understand.

G2 has ruined everything characteristic to Bionicle. Back in 2001, there are two things that every fan loved about G1 - that romance was banned and that there was no time travel. This is one of the most important things that drew every new fan in.   Now, G2 Bionicle has thrown that key to Bionicle's success out the window, by including romance and time travel in their most popular franchise. That saved Lego from financial collapse. That franchise is called Ninjago.   Evergreen theme?! I tell y

Lego Conventions

Recently, I've been thinking again about the possibility of going to a Lego convention someday. It ranks up there with those things that I want to "try out before I write it off as bad". Logistics and homework have proved prohibitive in the past, and probably will for a while yet, but it's something that I want to try out eventually.   Why do I want to try it out? Some beings have mentioned that there are seminars at these places and free/discounted/possibly winnable/rare Lego. I would look for

Fun with faulty mask stands

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UZbSjt0Qfk   Everything in this set is top-heavy and falls over easily.   And before anyone notices, yes, I did move Kulta's torso down a bit from the directions' specification. I don't know why they wanted it up that high, but I don't. It just looks wrong.   But hey, the Mask of Creation is fantastic. Totally a valid reason to buy this set for $30.

What they don't tell you at college orientation & how you might survive it

So some of the resident BZPower members may be graduating high school, or already did like two days ago. Welcome to college. Here is some idiotic advice from some random person on the internet. Every person and college is different, so take the following diatribe with some salt. But this is an attempt to clarify the facts about college so you know what you're getting into.   1. College is ######. Don't listen to the random college student who tells you that college is a party. It isn't. If yo

Font Test

If you've been around BZP long enough, you'll know that my trademark font is Copperplate Gothic Bold. Recently, I've noticed that it doesn't display correctly - I'm seeing Times New Roman, not CPGB.   Please let me know if that sentence is in Copperplate Gothic Bold. I need to know if it's a problem with my computer or a problem with BZP.
