Thinking really IS bad for you?

http://news.health.com/2014/07/07/many-dont-want-to-be-alone-with-their-thoughts/ Who are these people? For some reason, I find the last sentence to be erroneous. Should I just chalk this up to me being weird or something?   Because I actively enjoy being alone with my thoughts and turning them around in my head. Sometimes having a pen and paper in my hands helps...but "difficult to summon at will"? In certain situations, I've spent days just turning thoughts over, and often I feel pressured to

How does this get 13 upvotes?

* * * But alas, that's only the beginning.     The second post is exactly how I meant for the post to be interpreted as. As a straight absurd statement - yes, if my blood cells did go sapient, I would pay attention, yes? To do so would be the only sane course of action.   But expecting them to go sapient is absurd. We have studied blood cells and have calculated that they do not have enough mental faculties to stage a rebellion. Even in the absence of that fact, I would be ill-advised to th

Projects Status & Inquiries: UPDATED

First off, I want to apologize to the people who commented in the last blog entry on this, because nothing they have requested has gotten done. Unfortunately other people who did not comment on that blog entry got involved...and they had deadlines. Still, I am questioning the wisdom of taking everyone's input if I'm just going to do whatever. In any event, my bad for setting up false expectations.   But here's what's up. I haven't forgotten you all, at least.   * * *   1. Categorical Greg Answe

Now I want to see this...

This kid is the man, too.   Does he know how dated that reference is though? That movie came out in 2004, and is nearly ten years old. (Still the best movie ever, though. )   I'm starting to think, given the large number of Bionicle questions, Nick Cage movie refs, and Bachelor of Science degrees ( let's not go there), that some of these people in that thread might be not all be kids - some of them are my age. That's sort of creepy.

Font Test

If you've been around BZP long enough, you'll know that my trademark font is Copperplate Gothic Bold. Recently, I've noticed that it doesn't display correctly - I'm seeing Times New Roman, not CPGB.   Please let me know if that sentence is in Copperplate Gothic Bold. I need to know if it's a problem with my computer or a problem with BZP.

My old mysterious Lego box - Help wanted!

So today I dug into my old tub of Lego, which is technically mine, thanks to historical proof of ownership and credible abandonment.     There's a few elements in the box that I don't recognize, as a few sets got mixed together in with the old stuff. I was wondering if some resident Lego experts could assist me in identifying some of this stuff and solving some of the strange mysteries included therein.     I've never seen any of these Lego plates before. They have two ridges down the center,

Going to see the Guardians

So today, since I'm technically off school and not going anywhere, I decided to go watch Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.   It's a more innocent Star Trek ripoff, but that's like saying something ripped off Bionicle, in which case it would be amazing. Which is multiple levels of irony because all of the main players are criminals, but...alas, it is not as raunchy as your typical Star Trek episode. The characters have a bit more emotional depth to them and are a bit more childlike - they're not

Call it a new record...(Also, I'm back, in case you haven't noticed already :P)

I checked the top 20 posters today only to find that I had made 40 posts. This is a new level high - I think the previous record was 27 or some such nonsense. In any case, I went from 4819 sometime yesterday to 4865 at the end of today. I haven't seen that in years TBH - this place picks up every summer as a matter of course, but it hasn't been quite this bad for a long time, heh.   (If this gets too bad I'm going to have to stop checking as many places on BZP lol, as I only have a limited amoun

Bionicle Rumors/Leaks: A Different Take

I'm going to unpack this from what I think is a logical perspective. So we know that:   A. A new constraction line is coming in 2015 (or is rumored to be coming, we don't know: all we really know is that someone is working on one). B. That there were leaked images with the Bionicle name on them. C. The proclamation that "Bionicle is not coming back for the foreseeable future" was removed from the LMB. D. Greg is now less willing to deny plans for a future Bionicle.   So that leaves us with three

Notes & Updates

Updates: Media Reviews: 2. The Lego Movie - [COMPLETED] 3. Hero Factory [COMPLETED: RELEASE DEFERRED] - I'm waiting to see what will happen with this series, whether it will continue or stop or what. It's inconvenient to do an incomplete review for a series this short.   Other: 3. Possible G&T game[ABANDONED]: After some thought, I have multiple ideas on this, but I'm not sure any are viable enough. At this point I'm downgrading it from an official project and throwing it into the ideas

Brain Chernobyl

So apparently I overloaded my brain this week.   I'm doing a Communications class in order to eek out of a GE requirement for my college over the summer, to try to keep off my villainous parental units and move myself towards some degree.   But apparently this class, unlike the computer classes I took, doesn't have deadlines in the realm of reason. Whereas my computer classes were laid-back, assignments were due in terms of weeks. I frequently got my assignments done well in advance of the deadl

Fishhooks and Shattered Glass

Once upon a time, in a land not-so-far away, Mary and Bob* owned a hotel, more of ritzy one, on the side of a beautiful lake. Accordingly, they had built a nice balcony for their guests on the side of their hotel so said guests could enjoy the beautiful views of the lake and mountain beyond.   Behind the balcony, there was a dining area, with large floor to ceiling windows, again with ideal of allowing their guests to experience the view they paid for.   Unfortunately for Mary and Bob, this cre

Sword Art Online and General Anime Complaints

First off, big disclaimer:   The following blog post is not intended to be offensive to anyone who likes anime. The author of this blog post understands that she is not qualified to make an informed and reasoned judgement about the entire genre thereof, and therefore anything below is not intended to bash, make fun of, or otherwise deride any beings who may enjoy the genre.   Whew.   So recently, I decided to try out the anime series Sword Art Online, on the recommendation of bonesiii. Project(s) Status & Inquiries

Previously, I've avoided talking about my ongoing projects, preferring instead to just show up with the results. This works wonders for a newby S&T theorist, bad writer, and critical reviewer. It doesn't work so good when you're knee-deep in technical projects which have been going on forever, doing media reviews, or just plain flat need to decide what to do first.   And that's what I need answered. WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN FIRST? What really should have happened last week? That's what I need to

Insanity

1)   Source: Announcing the BZP Referral Program     Er, the pizza delivery man thing is soooo out of date. These days we use ice cream trucks for our fortress invasions.   *ahem* The BZP staff are now channeling Emmett, and even adopting insanity to try to curtain forum inactivity. Unfortunately, the alien vote (in terms of biomechanicals and otherwise) is already secured, it's the insane masses that don't understand.   It's Truth in Television. After all, what is one being's insane is anoth

Ever have that feeling when...

...you feel like you should be angry, but you are NOT?   ...or when you feel that you should be ashamed of yourself, but you can't really be?   ...or when you feel like you should be sad, but you're laughing and staring in morbid fascination instead?   I feel that this is the worst feeling in the known universe. Actually feeling anger, shame, or sadness can be dealt with, that's something get over-able.   But when you see what you think or what you did caused others to have misconceptionitis enf

My #1 gaming pet peeve

Where is my machine gun?     Much better. *   Please note that machine guns are not included as standard hardware in Chima Online. Please consult this entry if you wish to acquire one for yourself. No computers were harmed in the making of this entry.   Anyway. Time delays. Are very annoying when playing games. Period.   To my knowledge, this wasn't a component of older Lego games. I wasn't around for the Drome-Junkbot days, but even Bionicle games never included a time delay component going o

My Lecture for the night

*sigh*   Why does this subject keep coming up, seeing that it is a complete stack of illogic? I don't know.   But I guess for me the concept of gender stereotypes is dead because I naturally subvert almost every female stereotype known. This is not something woke up and suddenly chose to do for fun, it's just an irrevocable part of my essence.   Stereotype: "Girls don't like Lego." Me: *pulls out cardboard box full of Lego* *shows MoC pictures*   Stereotype: "Girls like fashion." Me: *walks

Categorical Greg Reference Update

It's nice when your IDE can define your problem for you.   Apparently I'm going to have to take something back - the categorization is probably (not certain, but probably), NOT going to take hundreds of hours as previously thought in the last blog entry. Due to the amazing powers of Java and JavaScript, I have rigged up a much more sophisticated search system than the Ctrl-F bar, which returns all of the posts that contain a certain word. (This is the net equivalent of the archives search featu

One of the Best Computer Programs Ever

http://www.mystressmanagement.net/download-desktop-destroyer.html   My personal favorite for the occasions when my computer isn't cooperating or I'm feeling mad at someone online (for no good reason, usually). The machine gun is a personal favorite. This is where I get my "*dodges machine-gun fire*" expression from, because I imagine someone shooting at me using one.   To aim it at your person/post/situation of choice, open the folder that contains the file, open it to the welcome screen, then
