Done with Undergrad

Last night I turned in my final undergrad assignment before getting my BS in Mechanical Engineering. It was a 100-page research document entitled "Motivations, Values, and Creative Processes of Participatory LEGO Bionicle Fan Community," which feels like an appropriate way to cap things off.   Might try to get it published. We'll see if I have the motivation.

WIP

Ehhhh character design is not my strong suit but I was trying.   Not sure what kind of legs to do; I've had a couple of horrifically poor prototypes.

Shad

The best Legend of Zelda character. Well... Guru-Guru come close. But I relate to Shad so much, and adore his character design.   Anywho I changed my profile pic, which gives me a grand total of one pic change and one name change in the seven years I've been here. All ya hooligans with your name contests every month give me vertigo.

ZELDA AMIIBO

AAAAAAAAHHHHH   I was going to get a New 3DS XL, but obtaining all four of these is my #1 priority. They are so beautiful and I cannot not have all Zelda amiibo.

LEGO Solutions

I needed some things, so I built them out of LEGO. It's cheaper that way, until you need the parts later.   A hat rack.     A deck box. (Green-Blue counter multiplying deck, by the way.)     An Amiibo Stand.     Sensor bar holder.     In other news, I'm in the middle of making some changes to my LEGO storage, which is not the ideal time for a really cool BBCC to pop up. Ah well.

Applications

If you can type 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 WPM or more, you'll just have to resort to scientific notation.

Chessboxing

It's exactly what it sound like. Alternating three minute intervals of chess and boxing, you win if you checkmate your opponent in chess or knock out your opponent in boxing.   I had no idea this was a thing.

Zelda

As I see it, there are two possible timelines: The year is 2036. Zelda NX/Wii U is consistently lauded as the best game of all time, praised for its visual design, sprawling and interesting overworld, and masterful combination of open world gameplay, satisfying combat, and engaging narrative. All children play it as a rite of passage, and most gaming sites have a week, if not a month, dedicated to discussing and celebrating the game. There is many a humble reflection on how frustrated we wer

Terry Pratchett

If someone could retroactively introduce me to Discworld ten years ago or so, that'd be great.   Loving these novels.

Good News

I presented my paper "The LEGO System Makes Co-Creation Painless for the LEGO Group" at the National Conference of Undergraduate Research a couple days ago. It went excellently. People were really interested, and I attracted a fellow college AFOL to my presentation who I got to talk with.   It was about how the the LEGO Group harnesses the innovations and ideas of the AFOL community, and how the LEGO System itself eliminates or minimizes the obstacles that other firms face when co-creating.   T

Books

Recommend me some. Anything--modern, 'classic,' ancient, whatever genre.   I tend gravitate towards fantasy/sci-fi, but I'm eager to expand that as well. but I've added a threadbare books sidebar that mostly just reflects my plans to reread some of my favorite fantasy/sci-fi series this summer, but I also want some new things.   Real talk, though. I feel guilty about how little I read nowadays. Up until a couple years ago I read in every spare moment. How much I read was a problem sometimes. B

Smash Bros got Updated

They've really improved the graphics! They've got an opening cinematic, Fox has his reflector, and his up-B is nicer-looking! And most importantly, ledge-grabbing!   Also Corrin and Bayonetta are out but I can't mess with them 'til the weekend.

Money

If you had told me a couple months ago that, as a poor college student, I would be spending eight bucks on yoyo lube, I wouldn't have believed you. Especially if you also told me that Twilight Princess HD, great new Bionicle sets, and the Majora's mask remake I still haven't played would be competing for that money.   But you can't use videogames or Lego while walking to and from classes.

The best D&D party

So I'm DMing a D&D 3.5 game with six players. Here's the deal: None of them are RPG gamers. Five out of six are girls. They are totally oblivious to all the fantasy tropes and D&D traditions they are constantly throwing out the window. They are totally oblivious to how incredible their total lack of metagaming is. One player is Kowski Bronwyn Arcana, the Whisper Gnome Halfling. Normally Whisper Gnome would be a very cheesy race--mechanically, they're one of the best 0 LA races in th

Just Watched Star Wars

What? No, the original trilogy. I can see why people love this so much, it's excellent worldbuilding. Fantastic props/sets/aesthetics. Oh, so that's what <insert Star Wars minifig> is based on. Seriously, everything is these films has been Lego-ized. TLG and AFOLs are thorough. Now I can wear those Darth Vader socks I got for Christmas.

Season of Getting

Cliche as loot posts are, I think my first foray into Steam gaming warrants mention. LEGO Doctor Who Ideas set. That Tardis is fantastic! Star Wars T-Shirts and socks. I still have yet to watch any Star Wars movies. Two pairs of suspenders and a very cool bow tie. The 9th/10th Doctor's sonic screwdriver. Bedding. Ice scrapers. A heavy-duty tackle box for LEGO storage. Should be easy to pack some essentials into and take to college. Steam games purchased with Christmas money: Undertale

Today's Incredible Releases

1. Critical Role (Twitch-streamed D&D with voice actors, stellar roleplaying, a magnificent DM, and production values) just minutes ago finished streaming, for the first time, an illustrated narration of their 2.5 years of pre-stream adventures. I was so hyped for this project. It did not disappoint.   2. A new Star Wars which rudely pulled people away from Critical Role.
