Done with Undergrad

Last night I turned in my final undergrad assignment before getting my BS in Mechanical Engineering. It was a 100-page research document entitled "Motivations, Values, and Creative Processes of Participatory LEGO Bionicle Fan Community," which feels like an appropriate way to cap things off.   Might try to get it published. We'll see if I have the motivation.

ZELDA AMIIBO

AAAAAAAAHHHHH   I was going to get a New 3DS XL, but obtaining all four of these is my #1 priority. They are so beautiful and I cannot not have all Zelda amiibo.

LEGO Solutions

I needed some things, so I built them out of LEGO. It's cheaper that way, until you need the parts later.   A hat rack.     A deck box. (Green-Blue counter multiplying deck, by the way.)     An Amiibo Stand.     Sensor bar holder.     In other news, I'm in the middle of making some changes to my LEGO storage, which is not the ideal time for a really cool BBCC to pop up. Ah well.

Applications

If you can type 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 WPM or more, you'll just have to resort to scientific notation.

Zelda

As I see it, there are two possible timelines: The year is 2036. Zelda NX/Wii U is consistently lauded as the best game of all time, praised for its visual design, sprawling and interesting overworld, and masterful combination of open world gameplay, satisfying combat, and engaging narrative. All children play it as a rite of passage, and most gaming sites have a week, if not a month, dedicated to discussing and celebrating the game. There is many a humble reflection on how frustrated we wer

Books

Recommend me some. Anything--modern, 'classic,' ancient, whatever genre.   I tend gravitate towards fantasy/sci-fi, but I'm eager to expand that as well. but I've added a threadbare books sidebar that mostly just reflects my plans to reread some of my favorite fantasy/sci-fi series this summer, but I also want some new things.   Real talk, though. I feel guilty about how little I read nowadays. Up until a couple years ago I read in every spare moment. How much I read was a problem sometimes. B

Just Watched Star Wars

What? No, the original trilogy. I can see why people love this so much, it's excellent worldbuilding. Fantastic props/sets/aesthetics. Oh, so that's what <insert Star Wars minifig> is based on. Seriously, everything is these films has been Lego-ized. TLG and AFOLs are thorough. Now I can wear those Darth Vader socks I got for Christmas.

Money

If you had told me a couple months ago that, as a poor college student, I would be spending eight bucks on yoyo lube, I wouldn't have believed you. Especially if you also told me that Twilight Princess HD, great new Bionicle sets, and the Majora's mask remake I still haven't played would be competing for that money.   But you can't use videogames or Lego while walking to and from classes.

D&D Characters

Currently Playing: Zizelkatzeka "Zizel" Nindu'ain, Grey Elf Psion (Shaper). Eager to become a world-renowned sculptor, Zizel services his keen capitalist instinct with persuasive Psionic powers and +13 to Craft(Sculpture). Has a thistle plant named Gunther who he's convinced holds psionic secrets and a Psistone named Zeka who has the feat Light Armor Proficiency.   1st Ever Character: Fado Kooloo-Limpah, Gnomish Druid. Had a Camel named Molgera. At level two, died, then was resurrected throug

The best D&D party

So I'm DMing a D&D 3.5 game with six players. Here's the deal: None of them are RPG gamers. Five out of six are girls. They are totally oblivious to all the fantasy tropes and D&D traditions they are constantly throwing out the window. They are totally oblivious to how incredible their total lack of metagaming is. One player is Kowski Bronwyn Arcana, the Whisper Gnome Halfling. Normally Whisper Gnome would be a very cheesy race--mechanically, they're one of the best 0 LA races in th

Smash Brother Direct

I'm excited to get more characters, no matter who, just to enjoy Smash with them. That said, I'm pretty meh about Bayonetta and Corrin. I'm not a huge fan of either franchise.   Both new characters look like the most visually extravagant thus far, so that's cool.   I'm not that into Mii Fighters, but excellent new costumes. I know a lot of people will enjoy Geno, Knuckles, and Tails.   Well done, Sakurai. That was a fitting send-off.

AFOLs with KFOLs?

Does anyone know of any documents- TLG demographic research, scholarly or semi-scholarly articles, surveys, whatever- about how AFOLs interact with younger LEGO users? Anything about AFOLs being involved in public events, FIRST LEGO League, etc.; or anything about parents who love LEGO fostering a love of LEGO in their kids?   Barring that, anything about how parent or adult hobbyists interact with children to encourage that hobby.   I'm writing a research paper about how TLG, AFOL subcultures,

Doctor Who

I love a lot of things, but it's always been really convenient to tell people that my obsessions are LEGO and The Legend of Zelda.   Then I watched some Doctor Who, and now I have to explain an unwieldy LEGO/Zelda/Doctor Who trio.   Life is hard.   And D&D, kinda Then people see my Franklin Badge and there's another franchise involved

I don't think I can deal with this. Change. No. Stop.   I won't care in a few months, but that's just how change works.

Another Dangerous Question

I asked for game suggestions a bit back. Now I'd like help being exposed to good electronic music, and guidance on how to browse electronic music and find stuff I like. I'm pretty into videogame remixes, which means that while I'm pretty familiar with what remixes are out there I'm also always looking for new ones. Mostly I'm looking for original pieces. I'm horrible with musical terminology and musical genres, but I think I prefer more melodic stuff? But every now and again a heavy dubstep
