Old Medicine

This is extremely random, but about a week ago I went out and bought olive oil, a small bottle of balsamic vinegar, and put them together in a jar with some cinnamon, oregano, rosemary, thyme, red pepper, black pepper, salt, and maybe one or two other things. I then heated the mixture repeatedly by setting the jar in boiling water. At one point I put it in a food processor in order to break up the congealed cinnamon bark mass that formed at the bottom before heating it again. So now I have a sce

Over Encumbered with Tech

First day of Med School Orientation today, and part of that was the distribution of the technology package: a Mac and an iPad Mini.   I now have a Windows 8.1 Toshiba Satellite Radius and a Macbook Pro, as well as a regular iPad (insert number I don't remember) and an iPad Mini 2. Oh, and an Android Phone. Why I needed a new iPad, I dunno. Why I needed the new laptop I slightly understand better: easier for the IT dept to handle servicing and they install a few things on there prior to us gettin

Searching for Music Lyrics

I was listening to a song, "Mend" by Jourdan Burks, and I was absent mindedly singing along when someone I was hanging out with on Skype (sometimes you just want company...even through VOIP) asked me what I was singing. I told her, and then tried to look up the lyrics to link...   You know the artist you're listening to isn't well known when Google fails to find the lyrics for you. Even going on Bing (hissssssssssss....) failed to bring me results. I even tried her full name--Jourdan Burks Johns

Losing Childhood

I've grown up with dogs. I've never not had a dog as part of my family. Bailey Quarters, Phoebe, Hero, and Samantha Carter. Bailey died when we were kids, a long time ago. We had Phoebe for a little while, but she couldn't be housebroken and we gave her away. Then we got Hero way, way back when I was in elementary school, and Sam came along when Hero got a little older and needed someone to play with. Sweet, sweet girls. We had Hero put to sleep a little over a year ago, and just today we buried

I Has Diploma!

"The Eagle now stands behind your class year, just as the entire Association stands behind you."   --- Today at 1400, Texas A&M began Commencement Ceremonies for graduating members of the College of Architecture, College of Science, and College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Science (one of these things is not like the others), awarding Doctoral, Masters and Baccalaureate degrees. We also commissioned about 130 officers going into the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps. A big, bi

Coming to a Close

After looking at my calendar, I can now count the time until the end of my college career by "Things to Do."   Apr. 29th: 1 presentation for physiology, followed by an exam for communication.   Apr. 30th: 1 performance with the Singing Cadets for a Salvation Army banquet.   May 1st: 1 exam for genetics.   May 7th: Final Singing Cadet performance at a dinner for A&M's new president, and final exam for communication.   May 11th or 12th: Final exam for genetics.   May 12th: Final exam for physi

I was wondering the other day if I should do one of these.   A BZP friend said to just do it.   So here goes: Ask Me Anything BZP.

BS01 related Hilarity / Do Over

I forgot that these images existed. This pair of screen-captures come from a time when I had my own custom/"hacked" skin going on with my User Pages on BS01. One day I notices what I thought to be a hilarious side effect of the black-out method I had employed. They are best prefaced with a question: do you feel as if something sinister, something evil, might be lurking in the sky over our fair city?   On another note: I'm playing around with the old MP again. Better view of it here using the mon

BS01's New Front Page

Figured I'd just make my own blog entry about this, since I was/am so involved in the project.  Alas, the separation of G1 and G2 has been quite a talking point, and it's hard to represent both simply and efficiently (at least, we haven't had any good ideas on it). As the guy who actually did the leg-work of making the design: we wanted the Welcome, Notices, and Social Media to be at the top, Partners at the bottom, and we tried to get the Featured Specials relatively close together (you can see

Med School Match Results

Let me just say that I was up for fifteen minutes before this began, stomach churning, legs shaking, going over the multitude of factors that may keep me out....     It's happened guys!!!     SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! ! ! ! ! ! !   Thank God....

Med School Match

So, for people who apply through the Texas Medical and Dental School Application Service (TMDSAS), a process known as "match" begins this coming Monday. I don't know how other med school app services and processes work, but for TMDSAS, you rank the school you interview with online, and they rank you, and then you get matched to a med school based on both those ranks... sort of. No one is entirely sure of how it works except for those who run it. But it apparently works, and there are 4 days unti

Unpleasant Surprise

Dear Roommate:   I realize you wish I would drink less Sprite.   But it feels very threatening to come home and find the ant poison sitting on top of my box of Sprite.   That stuff's dangerous, yo.   Sincerely,   Your Roommate

Tour Day 9 - Austin

Into the heart of enemy territory, and our--paradoxically--most highly attended concert. Lots of formers came to sing with us on the last song, and I got to see my parents =)   Alas, I can't tell you about the bus ride home because of tradition. If any of you come to A&M and join the Singing Cadets I really don't want to spoil the final ride for you. It was good, and I was happy tour was ending. Really needed to get away from the same 60 faces. I'm at home now (that is, home away from colleg

Tour Day 8 - Waco

I really wish the buffo would abandon their current line of "humor" regarding the topic of me. There are several things to make fun of, but they've latched on to a single thing and absolutely ruined the not-funny joke by banging on and on. Originality is not their strong suit, and we would have been told to bar similar things from our jokes by now. I'd also like to see what they would do if we made them remove jokes regarding sexual orientation and related anatomy from their repertoire. So very,

Tour Days 4&5: Springdale and Wichita

6 hour bus ride to Springdale. All that needs to be said about this stop is that the choir was probably bigger than the audience. Anything good was quickly eclipsed by the bad of day 5.   So it was another long ride, though not quite as long, to Wichita. It wasn't a ghastly early morning, but I was tired. Day started by looking at my phone and Skype: neither Otter nor Humva would be able to make it to the concert. Well great. That was supposed to be the highlight of the stop. So I get on the bus

Tour Days 6&7: Amarillo and Midland

Today's post brought to you by psychological disturbance. That is, my psychological stability has been slowly chipped back to high school levels. I hate the tour bus =)   On the other hand, last night may have been the best concert all tour.   And that's all I really got.   Home... T^T

Tour Days 2&3 - Ft. Worth & Longview

First concert went off well enough. The buffo didn't set up very well, pretty inefficient. It was their first tour set-up, though, so it can be excused. Their jokes haven't improved either. They have abandoned the plausible jokes of me being crazy, making fun of my conlang, or saying I have no friends, heart, or soul...to instead call me childish.   First concert was in a Church of Christ, so that meant no piano...not until we arrived when the grand piano they rented for the concert arrived. Tour Day 1 - Ft. Worth

Every year around this time for the last three years I have gone on a 7 to 10 day tour with my college choir, and this year is no exception. Today was just a primer day, though. Acquaint the new guys with bus rules, give them a taste of what is required of them, and do some rehearsal at a church local to tomorrow's performance location.   I'll probably tell more as the days go by, but one thing required of newbies (hereafter called buffo) is to provide jokes and entertainment on the bus (mainly

Redirection on Opening Blog Entries

This happens only sometimes, and not in a consistent "this blog, not that one" or "this day, not another" pattern, but I will occasionally be using my iPad to view blogs and get redirected to another website. I used to assume that it was because I accidentally touched an ad and opened the link, but the. I hit the back button, scroll more carefully, and more than once I get sent back to the same page as soon as the loading circle thingy goes away. Sometime the redirection will happen multiple tim

Merry Holidays

Happy Christmas everybody! Whether you celebrate the holiday or not, or if you celebrate another, I hope this time of year is one where you can smile and find some measure of peace. At the very least, I hope you are looking forward to a new year, and new beginnings.   RAWR!

Writing Through Broken Circumstances

In the summer between my 9th and 10th grade years, I became acquainted with a young lady best known as "Allison." Not long after I discovered that Allison's parents were divorced and she was being abused by stepfather, that she had taken to cutting herself and it wasn't long after that she attempted suicide.   Thanks for cheering us up Zox, great start there.   She aborted her suicide because I sent a text asking how she was doing. That minuscule, caring human contact was enough to convince her

Canonizations, Storyline Debates

Is it bad that I see all of these going on but instead of caring about them I'm this close *holds up fingers you can't see* to giggling with delight just at seeing old BS01-er's names showing up in the BS01 Recent Changes?   It just makes me absurdly happy

To BZPers in Texas:

I know there are a few in the Austin area, and this is mainly addressed to them because they're likely closest. If you'd like to take a day-trip away from Austin this weekend (or where ever you live if you're able/inclined to travel to Bryan-College Station) and be entertained with holiday music from multiple choirs on a Sunday afternoon, I can hook you up. My college chorus and it's two sister choirs will be putting on a holiday concert at 3pm, and I can promise that you'll enjoy at least MY ch

Sometimes my family makes fun of me...

...and other times they let me top one of our Christmas trees (we got three because why not?) with MoCs =D   BIONICLE Christmas Tree toppers!   I don't even care that they probably suck relative to a lot of the MoCs on here: they're topping the Geek-mas Tree! They win!
