Killing Lincoln

So I watched the documentary today, and it was very impressive. It was extremely impartial, which makes it quite different than some of the more politically charged accounts, and Tom Hanks did a very good job narrating the whole thing. It was also very accurate to period, which led to the usual issues one might have with a period drama - mainly, the usage of what is now a racial slur. However that is obviously something that any accurate reproduction would take. If you want a good look at what h

Survivor BZP Comics Series - Anyone interested?

I'm considering making a comics version of Surivor set with BZPower members. Yes, I know the idea is not original but nobody has done it in a long while and I think it would be fun to do. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in being a player on it (I'd be looking for around 14-18 members to participate, split into either two or three tribes depending on size), and what gameplay elements people would be interested in seeing from such a series.   EDIT: I will send a PM to all int

Christmas Loot

I figure I'll jump on the bandwagon here and announce my Christmas day loot. Ho ho ho!   I got what I wanted this year - an Xbox 360 and Madden 13. I've had just a plain old Xbox since 2004 and have lived off of Madden 07 for the Gamecube and ESPN NFL 2k5 on the Xbox since then, in part due to my disdain for how EA has handled Madden post-exclusivity deal. I'm a capitalist so I respect their right to buy those exclusive rights, but I used my right to not buy their games because they started to s

Christmas movies

So, I watched Christmas Vacation and Elf tonight. If you haven't seen Elf, you really have to - there are just way too many funny bits right from the start. Both movies are holiday favorites of mine and an annual tradition at my house, and they never really get old because the material is just so great. Now all I need to do is watch Home Alone and The Santa Clause.   -TN05

Immaculate Reception documentary

If you aren't watching it, the "A Football Life" on NFL Network is showing a great documentary on the Immaculate Reception. It will come back on at 1 AM EST, so set it to record if you can. It is really fantastic and pretty cool.   I think it's pretty undeniable at this point that the ball hit Tatum first. The video proves it, as do the laws of physics. Whether Franco caught it without trapping it on the ground is not provable, and some fouls might have happened on the play. But overall, the ref

Survivor: Philippines review

I have to say, Philippines was one of the best seasons of Survivor I have seen. While I would have rather seen Lisa or Skupin win, I loved that the final four were all likeable and played solid games instead of coathangers who win because they were not as evil as the other finalists (I'm talking to you, Sandra). The game was truly unpredictable and the alliance of Malcolm and Denise lasting so long was unexpected. I also enjoyed this three-tribe lineup as compared to the two-tribe one - alliance

Final Tribal Council

Alright, who is going to be voted out? With Skupin safe, I'm hoping Malcolm goes, although I like all the remaining contestants.   -TN05

Week 15

So glad to see my Panthers annihilate a team for two weeks in a row. Too bad we couldn't play like this earlier in the year, but finishing on a strong note is great.   On another more, how on earth did the Lions lose to the Cardinals? They lost 58-0 last week. I thought the Lions were better than this, honestly   -TN05

A Message to Piers Morgan and Joe Scarborough

Stop slandering everyone with autism, something you clearly know nothing about. If you had even the slightest grasp of what autism is you would realize that most people with autism aren't mentally capable enough to speak, let alone shoot people. And if you had the slightest grasp is Asperger Syndrome, you would realize we aren't "missing something in the brain", we aren't depressed, and we do have empathy, perhaps even more than you do; rather, many of us find it hard to recognize nonverbal spee

Football

So yeah, Commissioner Goodell wants to expand the playoffs. Not a good idea; aside from weakening the playoffs substantially, the math just doesn't work.   With 14 teams (7 from each conference), there would have to be only one team with a bye because: *With 2 byes, you get five teams in the first round *With 3 byes, you get five teams in the second round   With 16 teams (8 from each conference), there would have to be four teams with byes because: *With 1 bye, you would have seven teams in the

Loving your Enemies

“Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction.”   -Martin Luther King Jr.

On respect

There is no question in modern society that people in general don't respect other people, especially in arguments. For some, it is because they don't feel like others deserve their respect due to some aspect of their person. For others, it is because the other person don't believe exactly what they believe. Both sides are wrong - respect is a two-way street.   Calling people names or accusing them of being 'sexist', for example, is not acceptable in an argument. Take a look at this image:     T

Malcolm got very, very lucky there. You have to play the idol in that situation, because undecided voters are more likely to vote for the challenger.

SAT Scores

So I got my SAT scores today; I got an 1895 out of 2400, or around the 87% percentile nationwide. I did best on writing and reading where I rank in the mid eighties and 90th percentile, while I did just above average on math. Overall a good result.

It's a tie!

So the Rams tied the 49ers 24-24 after an overtime of missed opportunities; this is the first tie game since 2008. Americans pride ourselves in having next to no ties in our football (an aspect that makes football better than soccer IMO), but a tie was very much deserved here.   -TN05

Best game ever

Alright, so I just played the best and most fun game of NCAA football 2005 (yes, it's that old but I plan on getting a new one when I get an Xbox 360) I have ever had today. In Dynasty mode, I was playing in the New Orleans Bowl with the Appalachian State Mountaineers (Sun Belt conference champs with a 9-3 record) versus the East Carolina Pirates (5th in C-USA with an 8-3 record), with five minute quarters. I got the ball on the kickoff and drove downfield. After a few drives, I managed to pin E

What BIONICLE Means to Me

Just recently my parents noted I still had Bionicle sets in my room. A relatively small place, I barely have any room to have more than 6 or 7 out at a time, but that has gotten my thinking about Bionicle as a whole. What is it about Bionicle that has kept me a fan for over 11 years, much longer than any toyline?   I remember my first set well - Toa Tahu, given to me in 2001 by my best friend. From there, something about Bionicle grabbed me - perhaps it was the sense of adventure, materialized i

Iron Man

I saw the first Iron Man movie a couple days ago; it was a pretty good movie, I have to say. Kind of refreshing to see a superhero movie that focuses on intrapersonal conflict, which seems to have been abandoned since the first two Spider Man movies.   -TN05

Super Paper Mario

So I just finished playing through it again, probably about the fourth or fifth time I've played through it. Finishes my playthroughs of all three of the games in the series, which is good. I gotta say, I think SP really gets too much hate and is very under-appreciated. It has its flaws, sure, and is probably my least favorite game in the Paper Mario series, but it is by no means bad. It has a very deep plot, no doubt the best in the Paper Mario series, and Count Bleck is one of the best villain
